Another aspect is a 150 sq ft canopy loaded at 1:1 is going to behave differently than a 220 sq ft canopy loaded at 1:1. Just throwing that in. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

You need to visit Fargo with the Super Cessna! 5-ways abound and a ride to 12k takes 15 mins. You mistakenly give the pilot at a boogie corrections even though the green light is on. The crotch takes on a whole new meaning. Getting out of the plane at 3500' doesn't make you nervous Sky Canyon Wingsuiters -

LMAO! That is so true. Fargo I swear has the most days with marginal wind conditions. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters -

Jumps 37-56 PD 210 at W/L= .92 56-200 Sabre1 170 at W/L = 1.15 200-212 Sabre1 150 at W/L = 1.3 Everyone gets indirect canopy coaching at my DZ. If you don't land close to the circle or fall you get ridiculed for weeks. On the plus side instructors and coaches will tell you what you need to do differently. Don't be in a hurry to downsize. If you think you know how to fly your canopy every which way you probably don't. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Skydiving in the winter?
mnskydiver688 replied to Philly215's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Up here in North Dakota jumping ceases most of the time. Good chance January through February won't get above 10F and the winds get pretty bad up here. Gives you an excuse to go to FL or AZ though. Haha Sky Canyon Wingsuiters -

I agree. Knowledge is worth quite a bit. There are a lot of professions out there where you are getting paid for what you know more so than what you do. Now I'm sure if someone got charged $5 for a closing loop he/she would make it a point to learn how to make one. Knowledge is the real moneymaker these days. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters -
My first 4-way was the jump after I got licensed, which was jump 37. You could get a 4 way together and ask to break off at 5 and pull by 4. Then you have time to evaluate your pattern and try different approaches, (double fronts, rear riser, etc.) No matter if your jump was a solo or a 10-way you only have once chance to practice your landing and so why not get your money's worth and practice skills from exit to touchdown? I guess because I went through SL I have a more economical approach toward jumping. But, then again I only have 200 jumps so what do I know? Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Honest level of risk with skydiving?
mnskydiver688 replied to Philly215's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well maybe what he meant was it sucks the life out of you. Money, time, outside commitments, all gone. If you want to get technical just living has a 100% fatality rate. Sooner or later just laying on the couch will kill you. As a wise man once said, "It is better to burn in at 120mph than die in some senseless tragedy." Sky Canyon Wingsuiters -

BEER!!! BEER!!! BEER!!! Ok now that that is out of the way. Congrats. I have yet to do mine, but I have some time before they become necessary. Glad to hear you didn't have any issues. Have fun and stay safe. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Congrats. I am pumped to get to my 200th jump. You know now you can go take a course and WS. Haha Congrats again and stay safe. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

What's the deal with the headaches?
mnskydiver688 replied to peanutgallery's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I realize that I am not a doctor and I was merely giving information on what I have experienced and things that worked for me. I have been suffering from migraines since I was 4 years old and have met with many neurologists including seeking help from the Diamond Headache Clinic in Chicago and have done a lot of research. As with any medical issue one should always consult with a doctor, but there are people out there that can provide first hand experience and tips. I was only drawing on my area of knowledge. Question about new rig!
mnskydiver688 replied to Radioshack's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
As I am not an instructor take my opinion with a grain of salt. First off what is your WL on the canopy? My experience tells me that it is hard to get a canopy completely and totally dialed in at 45 jumps. I have 130 jumps on my sabre 170 and I still don't feel that I have flown the canopy to the limits of its performance envelope. Have you done different approaches such as double front riser approaches or rear riser landings? I would suggest reading Bill Von Novak's downsizing checklist before making any decisions. As I said in another thread if you would feel comfortable doing an off-field downwind landing then maybe you are ready. Like I said before not an instructor so take all this with a grain of salt. What's the deal with the headaches?
mnskydiver688 replied to peanutgallery's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Do you have a history of getting migraines? I suffer from migraines and have found that skydiving can trigger them. There are many nerves that can specifically trigger a migraine. If you are experiencing hard openings strain on your neck can cause a tension headache or a migraine. Also if you are popping your ears quite a bit by yawning the nerves located around your jaw can also cause either tension headaches or a migraine. If you are experiencing eye strain by either contacts or excessive sunlight this can also act as a trigger. As others have said staying hydrated is crucial, as there is a real possibility of your brain getting a little too warm and causing the blood vessels in the brain to dilate and cause a migraine. Taking any sort of anti-inflammatory such as Advil can help. Drink plenty of water, watch those openings, and maybe get tinted goggles. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters -
Do a downwind off-field landing and then decide if you really want to downsize. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

I know you have heard it many times, but I have to share... Opened at 12k and did a two stack. Then attempted a downplane. Keyword is attempted as we didn't get it to a side-by first and ended up on our backs with line twists. Broke and tried again. We got the side-by first and then went to the downplane. At one point I looked at my altimeter and wondered how long the other guy (He has done a lot of CReW and has around 2600 jumps) was going to hold on as we were passing through 1700 feet. We were over shit ponds so that made me wonder what our real "deck" was. Landed and felt a high I haven't felt since my first jump. I was giddy. Anyway it was a very fun experience and CReW is very fun! Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

People use altimeters? I always looked at the ground and when stuff started looking a little too big I would pull. When I was flying my pattern I just went by "feel" Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Will wingsuit instruction be available? I am looking to make my first flight. Ask anybody up here and they will tell you they are tired of hearing me talk about my excitement about WS. So I need to make my first flight already. Haha Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
