The most recent record attempt was called on account of a foot of snow. - SDC, Winter Expo. We need an excuse the bring the Archway people up. I don't think there's enough of us without them. AndyMan, skymedic, grumpysmurf, diverdriver, sunshine, Vallerina, hisgoofyness, fallingweenie... I think that's it - are all basically in Chicagoland. You just had to take the La Joncondre shot, did ya? SHEEP! Nah, I loved the photo of the woman reading, plus the staircase. They're both beautifully framed. The Louvre pyramid at night is an interesting perspective. Did you get into the catacombs? _Am (wishing he could screw off to Paris for the weekend...) Good call. I'd forgotten about that site. And for the record, salary.com reports entry level tech support in chicago is 36K-47K salaried, so I wasn't that far off! _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

And when I finally leave CHICAGO DAMMIT! Actually kinda nice today. In the high 40's, which for early March isn't that bad. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

Of course they will. They regularly yell "BURN THE CANADIAN!" at me. Great fun! You also get the added bonus of jumping with Chris(tine), a topless dancer who lives in Schaumberg... People are great at all chicago area DZ's. I've never been to a DZ that won't consider training done elsewhere. So start AFF where you are, just make sure you have good comments in your logbook so they'll know where to pick up. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

Definately not. In fact, they're having trouble paying me. I had a recruiter call me this morning about a position in Ottawa, Canada. I'm considering accepting it. six figures goes a LONG way in Ottawa... My dilemna is that if I leave the people I'm with now, they're done - they'll have no choice but to give up and declare bankrupcy. If I stay, bear out the slow parts, there's a chance I'll be flying to WFFC in my new Lear Jet... ARGH! My experience with salary negotiations are they'll ask two questions: a: how much do you want, b: how much did you make at your last job. c: is the percentage above b: that they'll offer you. This translates to: (a) is the opening to negotiations, (b) gives them an indication of what it'll take to actually sign you. The closing number is usually (b) plus (c) a percentage between 10 and 50 based upon how badly they want you. Quoting a high (a) ensures you end up at the high end of (c) Make sense? _Am (who's hired, then had to lay off 15 people in the last year... ) ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

All I gotta say is that I hope this guy loves you as much as you love him. I hope you're doing this because you both know that you're going to spend the rest of your lives togeather, and not trying to prove your love, or make him love you. To be completely honest, what you're about to do scares the crap out of me. And I'm scared for you, I'm scared about what's going to happen to you a year from now if he dumps you for someone else. Of course it's your choice, and if this is what you really want to do then go ahead. Just make sure you're doing it for the right reasons. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

If you're in the northwest suburbs, you should also look at Chicagoland - http://www.skydive.com - they're in hinckley, it'll save about an hour off your drive to SDC. Chicagoland's AFF program is traditional AFF, so it'll be cheaper then SDC's. They won't give you as much canopy training, but they also won't put you under a canopy where you NEED that training. Chicago DZ's all have bustling trailer parks onsite, so just live at the DZ! :P _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

Two pages is perfectly acceptable for a resume. But no more. If you need to ditch stuff off the bottom, that's fine. Better to ditch the meat cutter position then go to three pages. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

When I was doing this kind of job 6 years ago I was getting 18/hour. Now... $20-25/hour? or $40,000 - 50,000 salaried is my guess. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

Ditch the salaray section. Put a compressed salary requirements at the bottom of the page. Take the amount of money you'd jizz for, then double it. Create a salaray range by taking the "holy shit I can't believe I'll make that much", and subtract and add 10,000. Think you're worth 40K? Your range is now 60-80K. This is a starting point for negotions. If you ever get to discussing this, you know you're in. Salaray discussions are one of the clear signs of a deal. Secondly, adjust your tables. You're using very poor use of whitespace. Shrink your top margin above the address block - address blocks are basically headers, and should be right up at the top. Also expand the tables around the address block. Shirnk your left and right margins. This will allow your table to "flatten out". Consider ditching the table borders. they just add clutter. Use a sans-serif font (like arial) for headings and a serif font (like Times new roman or Courier) for paragraph text. Sans serif fonts give strong first impressions, serif fonts are easier to read. Cut down on the use of bold. You're going way overboard with bold. Get a keyword list of technical skills. Recruiters use database searches to find candidates, and a keyword list will help yours turn up. Consider cutting off some of your older jobs. Do you really think your meat cutter position is gonna help you get that kick-ass new website design job? _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

Depends on semantics. If you "go on a diet", you're absolutely right. Once you "go on a diet", there's only one thing left to do - "go off the diet". However, a big part of a healthy lifestyle is eating a helthy diet. This means eating healthy foods. It isn't temporary. It is a PERMANENT LIFESTYLE CHANGE. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

I have only two comments: The first is that horseshoes are not necesarily cause by pilot chute in BOC. Horseshoes are frequently caused by pilot-chute around leg, for example. Consider this comment only semantics. Secondly, there's a very easy solution for pilot-chute in BOC horseshoes, and that's proper packing of the pilot-chute. As a packer, it's up to you to pack the rig in a safe manner. These techniques have been made popular by constant nagging from Brian Germain. The most important part is that the webbing of the pilot chute is pulled out of the apex before folding. It's a very simple procedure that almost guarantees that horseshoes will not happen. It's also critical that you not stow the excess bridle inside the pilot chute. It needs to be folded alongside the pilotchute. Both these techniques ensure that the pilot chute will be easily extracted from the BOC by a deploying main. Either search the forums for specifics regarding this, or email Brian at brian@bigairsportz.com - I know as a fact he'll be more then happy to explain the procedure. I'm concerned about your suggestion of an automatic BOC release system because it's adding complexity to the opening mechanics. Please feel free to post more detailed thoughts, though... _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

Cool Skymama, that rocks. I lost 80 pounds about three years ago. I've kept it all off, too. There were two parts to my weight loss, the first was seeing a motivational speaker. Yeah, I know. This part sounds cheezy, but I'm sure anybody who'se EVER tried to lose weight knows the hardest part was keeping motivated through the process. The guy I was seeing reminded me every saturday morning of What I was trying to do, How I was trying to do it, and When I knew I had done it. It's a lot easier to stay focused when you've got someone reminding you these things. The second part was simply eating healthy. To me, "eating helthy" meant the following: Fat: Fat was the killer ingredient. Cut out all fat, then add it selectively where you need it. No more then two tablespoons of oil per day. Substitute quantities for other forms of fat. Simple idea: eat fat stay fat. Carbs: Concentrate on whole grain carbs. This means brown rice, whole wheat bread, etc. Processed carbs are almost identical to sugar. Even after concentrating on whole grains, moderate the amount. Small quantities matter here. Protien: protein in and of itself is great, but if frequently comes with fat. Consider any fat part of the above limitations - this pretty much means you chose to eat your protein in a manner that has NO fat. This really isn't that hard, turkey, chicken, and beef tenderloin, all have very little fat... Bacon has lots... Skip the bacon, have an extra egg. Vegetables: unlimited. Count any salad dressings under the fat limitations above. Use vegetables to fill the gap if you're used to larger meals. A daily diet would go something like this: Breakfast: two poached eggs, 2/3 cup corn flakes (one sugested serving), and a quarter cut skim milk. Lunch: huge salad, a few slices turkey with mustard, 2 beers. Dinner: chicken breast, 1/4 cup brown rice and a salad. fat free dressing. I lost these 80 pounds while working for Molson - I drank on average at least two beers a day. A beer has roughly nutritionally equivalent to a bowl of cornflakes or two slices of whole wheat bread. So if you're going to drink beer, you need to cutback on the amount of bread you eat. This is why I never had bread at lunch, because I had beer. This sounds boring, but you learn to make it interesting. For example, whenever I make brown rice it gets mixed with diced mushrooms, onions and tomatoes. Once I had lost the weight, THEN I started exercising, because I didn't want to confused fat loss and muscle gain. I started off with mostly cardio and progresively moved into resistance training - AFTER I LOST THE WEIGHT. Trying to exercise off the weight never works, unless you're going to combine it with a healthy eating habbit. You need to cutback or burn an extra 3500 calories to lose one pound. Running one mile on the treadmill burns about 100 calories. If you think you can lose weight by running, expect to run about 35 miles for each pound you're going to lose. I hope you have a lot of spare time... _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
