  1. The illinois crowd will be putting togeather a few weekends in the early summer. But then I've never been to xenia... _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  2. Would it be the case that this theoritical future student canopy would be just as easy to fly 20 or 40 sqrft smaller then a canopy built on current student technology? Doesn't the efficiency of this future wing compensate in some way for the smaller size? This is not a pointed or leading question. I'm honestly wondering how these high performance canopies would scale up. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  3. I think you need to stop by late at night, and secretly drop off a video of his precious car being run out the back of Eloy's Skyvan. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  4. The guys from Molson: Myself (web geek), Mark Benzaquen (brewmaster, Air Canada Center), and Tandem Instructor Peter Legere (systems support) at Frontier, in upstate NY. As far as I know, Marc never went back for a second jump. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  5. I was wondering about this a while ago. To what extent does the advancement in canopy design allow for or even require smaller student mains? We're already seeing mildly eliptical or tapered 9 cell designs in the PD Navigator. Many DZ's are using Sabre 2's and Safires as first jump rigs. In the future, I wonder if we'll see air-locked, crossbraced, or even air-locked AND crossbraced canopies designed for first jump use. In the abstract, all of these advancements "improve the effeciency of the wing". If the wing is that more theoretically effecient, does this mean it can (or maybe should) be flown at a moderately higher wingloadings? _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  6. Happy birthday dude. We should've gotten pissed tonight... I'm in Toledo, but I would've come back. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

    Arbortext?

my documentation is done in javadoc. This means it's done in source. Then jennifer, my implementation analyst writes the documention based upon my javadoc. What this means is that I have absolutely not freakin idea what this company does. HTH, _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  9. I'm exactly the opposite. Anyone can search the gear forum looking for a thread I started regarding the dilemna fo me disconnecting my RSL. This was a decision I took very seriously over serveral weeks. I'm still not sure I've made the right decision, but I think I have - as I jump my stiletto at 1.45. I'm more then willing to re-open the debate, but I'm pretty sure Allan would shoot me, and everybody else yells "use the search button". Disconnecting my RSL is not something I've taken lightly. It's certainly not based upon a feeling of superiority over other jumpers. I think anybody who does feel this way needs to take up bowling. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  10. About a year ago, I'm at the DZ, working for the DZO. I'm hot fueling the otter. Front tank. I'm squished up against the fueselage, about two feet from the spinning prop. Kinda fun, kinda cool, kinda freakin scarry. I sorta got used to it over time, but it was always freakin scarry. Later that afternoon, a self appointed expert shanters up to me. In my mind this has to be said in a John Wayne voice: Don't ya think you were kinda close to the prop? Duh. Hell yes. Yes I was kinda close to the fricken prop. That was my job. So what? If there's one thing in this sport that I don't ever want to be - that's an expert. There's already too many experts. Everytime I look up, or my ears perk up, I hear some smart assed opinion out of a self appointed expert. If I ever become one, please shoot me. I don't print a disclaimer in every post, but any person who's stupid enought to listen to my opinions simply because I state them deserves to burn in. In this sport more then anywhere else, people need to think about what they know, what they hear, and what they think. This is the wrong sport to take what you hear as "Rote". For gods sake be critical. Blow off those you don't buy. Look for people that make sense, not those who're "experts". _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

  13. Dude, I know you're real good, I know you stand up all your landings, and I know you hit the center of the peas on every jump. I'm not being sarcastic, I'm not taking jabs at you. I believe you when you say you think you're ready for this. Despite this, I will personally guarantee that you will duff in before you hit 100 jumps. If you don't I will eat my shorts. Literally. I'm that sure you'll screw up, at least once. You need to decide now what kind of injury you want when that happens. You're into the range now that you won't kill yourself, but you will end up in the hospital. You will have to stay overnight, and you will have at least one cast on when you leave. I hope you have good health insurance. Go back up to the 170 and you will probably walk out with tensor bandages. Go up to the 190 and you probably won't even need to go. Go down to a 130 or 110 and you won't walk out. It's that simple. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  14. You would recomend spending the extra money that a Javelin costs over buying a Cypres? You might want to rethink your priorities, I think. Given short cash, don't you think any of the other perfectly good containers WITH a cypres would be better? There's a certain individual here (who drives a brand spankin new yuppie car) who told me he can't afford a cypres. Isn't that something! _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  15. Dude, I mean no disrespect when I say this, but I think you're about to become a statistic. You're doing at 30 jumps what I'm doing at 300. I hope your injuries are mild, my friend. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

  17. I've seen P9's used as play toys for children. It's a 3 meter parachute. Recomended for pre-schoolers. You can buy one here If this is the one you're talking about, this is just too funny. I supose I kinda expected it though. You did say "any canopy", I think. What do I win? _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

  19. Remember your ABC's Airway, Breathing, Circulation. The black and white is easy - if either of these are in jeopardy, well - spinal damage is not part of the ABC's. You didn't say if the labored breathing was stable or not. Is it consistent or deteriorating? Seems to me people will survive just fine with labored breathing, it just means you need to monitor it all the more closely until the pros arrive. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

  21. I forgot to take off unsecured sunglasses while doing a helicopter jump at WFFC last year. They performed great in freefall. Gave reasonably good eye protection, didn't tear up. Didn't dry out. They fell off during opening, but I caught them. Then I lost them while packing. Doh! _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
