  1. Because Americans are very independent minded. They don't like people telling them what to do. America was one of the very last country to require seat-belt use. Common thoughts were that "that government aint gonna tell me I have to wear this thing". Skydiving is the same. Even people with Cypres fight against the requirement of them, simply because they're against government regulation. It will happen, but it will be a very slow battle. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  2. If you do a search in the photography forum, you'll see a pretty wild account of the filming from Brent... including a helicopter crashing. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  3. It's very good business, and is used ethically and efficiently in pretty much every industry. Any program that brings more students to a DZ is a good thing for the DZ, and if you believe that students are the lifeblood of the sport, then a good thing for it, too. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  4. I would have answered his questions. From the tone of your post, it seems like you were annoyed, even offended by him questioning you. IMHO, especially at the bigger dropzones, it's WAY too easy for someone to blen into the woodwork, then do something stupid. At a bigger DZ, where you're less likely to know people personally, and people are less likely to remember you, it's critical that they challenge you when they see something that makes them suspicious. Don't like people challenging you? Jump at smaller DZ's, where eveyrbody will know you. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  5. What? You mean that great scene in Night Court where the bum (ahem, homeless guy) was nearly bled dry so Dan Fielding could run for office wasn't true? There goes 80% of my knowledge of the us political system... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  6. I don't think chicagoland has the tandem business, only the AFF... of course I could be wrong. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Just make sure you wear good shoes. It's ALL in the shoes. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  10. Lucky you. One jumper at my DZ got a DUI saturday night, another got busted driving stoned on pot, 10 miles from the DZ going the wrong way from where he lives... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  11. Yes. Were your instructors, DZO and advisers aware of the choices you made when you bought this? Did they supervise your canopy choice and performance? If so, I would strongly suggest finding a new DZ. These ones don't take your life seriously. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  12. I did the same thing with my Javelin when I had my Cypres out for 4 years. However, I was lazy, and didn't want to remove the reserve from the container. I left the reserve in the freebag, tied the freebag closed with a pull up. When I put the rig in the tub, I hung the reserve over the shower bar. The one dificulty I had was that I didn't rince it properly the first time, when it dried there were some white splotches on the rig, presumably woolite that hadn't washed away properly. I stuck it under the shower for another 20 minutes, hung it over the shower bar to dry for two days. Worked great! _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  13. Odd. I thought we'd left blatant stereotype in the past. It's unfortunate that world events cause us to throw away our principles so quickly. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  14. It doesn't really boggle my mind, people do stupid things. Period. Last week in illinois, a guy who's spent 20 years around trains was killed by one. He didn't clue in that there was a loud train wistle blasting, and approaching quickly. he didn't clue in that he was standing in the midle of the tracks, until it was too late. Smart, intelligent, people who hang around planes, trains, and boats for decades make stupid mistakes and get killed. Shit happens. Be vigilant. Don't be "that guy". _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  15. Let me put it this way. There have been a few times that people have gotten upset with me, because I said in a very direct way, that certain people have no business strapping a camera onto their head, with the experience they had when they came into this forum. Lacking any other knowledge about these people, I think I can come up with a half decent number that I can use as a benchmark. It's not a firm number, it's more of a range. That range for me, is about 200 jumps. If somebody has a lot less then 200 jumps, they'll get no help from me. What's undefined is the definition of "a lot", and my definition of that changes depending on how that person seems to respect the act that they're considering, and how knowledgable about basic gear and safety they seem to be before they come in here. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

    Skykam

Avoid the SkyCam. Canon EOS systems are very affordable, and nearly bulletproof. Check out the EOS rebel G. www.bhphotovideo.com _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  19. You've also just aptly described Canada. To anyone who argues that these policies impede business, should only look at the growth of Canadian GDP over the last year to that of any other country in the world. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  20. I voted for Joe Chows wingtip extension. His widebody 182's climb faster then any normaly aspirated, non "super" 182 I've been on. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  22. "200 jumps on complete system" - to me, means that every component has less then 200 jumps, including the main. It's a decent price. Very similar to my first rig, and $200 cheaper. The size of the main and reserve all both reasonable for your exit weight, the reserve is a bit smaller then I would prefer, though. I also have a J-3 with a 17 inch harness, but I'm a lot heavier then you. I would worry that the harness is too big. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  25. There's been a bunch of intelectual property lawsuits over Rambus ram - even pending criminal charges. In a nutshell, Rambus (arguably) defrauded computer manufacturers by not informing them of patents held on their memory. There is no competition in memory for Rambus memory. It might be worthwhile buying a new motherboard so you don't need to use rambus memory. a good motherboard is about a hundred bucks. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
