One thing that is really peaking my interesting is a sharing tool called 'bittorrent'. What makes it different then all the other file sharing tools is that one person maintains an index of people that have downloaded the files, and have made them available. This index is in the form of a webpage. So, Dave - you could grab a cheap website, and just list off the files hosted. You would need to host the files yourself, but throttle the bandwidth. Each person that downloads it also makes it available, and your system tracks where its available. The next person who requests the file grabs half from you, half from the new guy. Rince, repeat. Distributed file-sharing with centralised index. Sounds better then Napster... This seems like the perfect application for it. http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/ _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Actually, I did see those on CNN. I also saw them (or ones very similar, can't remember) on PBS in the Lehrer news hour. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

From www.slashdot.org "The JVC GR-HD1 will be introduced in May, it's the world's first consumer camcorder to offer 750 line resolution progressive video at 30 frames per second, recording MPEG2 video to MiniDV tape. The price will start around $2500-$3500 . Some more info here with pictures. Also check out the pro version. With digital cameras at regular stores with resolution over 5 megapixel it makes you wonder why it took so long to produce." __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

One of the things that I've discovered as I've travelled in Canada, the US, and a big part of the world, is that Canadians almost always have a deep and meaningfull understanding of what exists outiside their borders, and that Americans rarely have the slightest clue about other nationalities, apart from the stereotypes. One time as I travelled through Los Angeles, I met an otherwise intelligent, educated professional who honestly asked me if Canada has paved roads. The ignorance I've encountered is astounding. What you need to understand is that the Canadian culture is one of the most introspective cultures on the face of the earth. Moreover, they are acutely aware of the fact that they live within a small continent as well as a global society. Canadians spend an entirely unhealthy amount of time pondering their relationship between them and their Southern neighbours. Conversely, many Americans are not only unaware of what goes outside their own backyard, many simply do not care about what goes on in the rest of the world. If you really do hate Canadians because they think they've got a better idea, I'd wonder what insecurities these feelings are rooted in. I mean, Canada is obviously insiginificant to most Americans, given the attention given them. Why do you care? Is it even remotely possible that they might just have a better idea? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

6-6 carries power. That's what the extra two pins are for. 4-4 does not, and 4-6 is sort of an "adapter" cable, it does not carry power. Most devices do not need firewire power. Video cameras are of this kind - they do not need firewire power, because they've got their own batteries and power supplies. Some external hard disks need six pins because they don't have their own power supplies. We don't need six pin, but can use it just fine. All 4 pin devides will work just fine in a six pin adapter, if you have the 4-6pin cable. We use 4-4 cables to connect two cameras. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Odd, that this is exactly what most Canadians, and Western Europeans think of the US. I won't argue your economic arguement, but I do see it quite differently. I'm not just pulling it out of my ass, either - My BA had a minor in political science and economics. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Actually, I rarely watch CNN. I think they suck. I do watch Fox, and I'll even occaisionally watch O'Reilly. He's funny, a good entertainer. Just like Jerry Springer, or Oprah, Letterman, or Jon Stewart. I say this not because of left or right, I say this because some people do news, others do entertainment. Bill O'Reilly is clearly in the realm of entertainment. Just like Bill Maher, or Jon Stewart. If he's your idea of a serious newsman, well... I think you need to be a little more critical. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I think you need to be a bit more aware of whats on the other networks. To suggest that Bill O'Reilly is somehow the hallmark of journalistic ethics is one of the most ludicrous statements I've ever seen. Fox is constantly ridiculed for it's complete lack of ethics, and O'Reilly is at the top of that list. The fact that he's popular does not make him a good journalist. Usually, it's the exact opposite. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Grrr! Ya hadn't replied when I STARTED typing it... That's ok. Most of what I posted I learned from quade anyways. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

What I found interesting about this read is that the facts are generally correct, but what is completely missing is context. I agree completely with Canada, Hussein should be tried by The Hague. This is afterall why the world created the permanent war crimes court there. It's an embarassment that the US hasn't ratified the war crimes treaty. There should be no debate here. Hussein should be tried in The Hague. As for the Canadian press and government piloring Bush over his war attitude, thank god someone did. The American press and the democrats haven't said a thing under the fear of being persecuted for "not supporting our troups". If the same had happened in the 70's, the US would still be in Vietnam. As for the cancelled trip, both Powell and Bush say that nobody should read anything into it, and the trip is reschuled for the fall. As to the suggestion that Canada is close to "serious pain", unless he's refering to military action, I see little pain. The US needs Canadian lumber and Oil far more then Canada needs anything from the US. Even now, with the US economy in the shits, the Canadian economy is steaming ahead, interest rates at 5 year highs, the dollar approaching 10 year highs, and unemployment at 10 year lows. If the US wants to play a trade war, they will lose. The suggestion that the french boycott has had any effect at all is completely false. The price or french wine has actually gone up in the last few monthes, because of an especially tasty batch of Bordeau. O'Reilly should really do some research before writing editorials. When Canada quickly came to the aid of the US after 9/11, both with logistical support imediately following, and military support later, the US rewarded them with some of the highest tarrifs on lumber exports ever. The US clearly was taking Canada's support for granted, and they needed a wake-up call. If the US wants support from other countries, then they need to start offering their own support to those countries. That has not been forth-comming. What is sad is that people are making the mistake of blaming the people when the fault lies in the politicians. Like Rick Mercer said, it's not like they actually elected Bush anyways. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

The farther away, the better. Preferably, it would be infinity. Here's why: If you set for an arbitrary short distance, like 3 feet, you're hosed if you ever get far away. If you're 10 feet away, each camera may be pointing at wildly different subjects. If you set it to be far away, then no matter how far you are from the subject, the difference in view of the cameras will always be the same - the physical distance from the two cameras. If you're 3 or 30 feet, there will only be 8 inches of difference. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

In an email conversation last year, Kevin Gibson (USPA director of communications) explained to me that they could not afford to post a free copy of the SIM online. He outlined plans to put the SIM back with a credit card payment mechanism. Incidentally, at the same time as saying they couldn't afford to give away a copy of the SIM online, the USPA was moving forward with building a museum and new offices. The dichotomy struck me as offensive. I'm thrilled to see the SIM back online. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I'd suggest sitting striaght in your chair. Make sure you don't ever lean to the left, they dont' like that. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I don't like the gap between the frame and the helmet. Looks like a snag waiting to happen. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I saw this at Chicagoland a few monthes ago. The concensus was that it's a few steps forward because of the size and weight, but a step backwards because of the externally mounted VCR unit. I'd like to see something similar, with wireless, and bigger optics. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Just because they didn't fit you properly, doesn't mean they won't fit anyone else properly. Nor, does it mean they're cheap. I had mine for about a year before I lost them. They'd gone through hell and back and stood up well. The lenses were very scratch resitant, and the frame was very durable... would take a lot of abuse and would bend rather then break. I plan on buying another pair. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I used a pair until I left them hanging off the mirror of a rental car in Texas. They work real well, give a good seal. When you take the strap off they make good sunglasses, too. Square 2 in Eloy sells them, so does the gear store at Chicagoland Skydiving. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Skydance does offer excellent service, but their prices really not very compeditive for anything that they do not make. It's ood that the swivel mount isn't on their webpage. That's where I ordered mine from. I forget how much I paid for it. Steve on the left: http://bombshelter.ca/~andy/photos/WFFC02W/pages/WFFC02%20020.htm _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Daughter has a pierced tongue....Where did I go wrong?
AndyMan replied to steve1's topic in The Bonfire
Steve, I mean this in the nicest possible way. The music isn't too loud, you're too old. Body piercing is becoming not only acceptiable among virtually all circles of todays youth, it's becomming common. That's a cool thing, as farr as I'm concerned. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. -
Just to clarify, the "L" bracket I got from Skydance will swivel a nearly full 340 degrees in either direction, up or down. This makes it easy to re-aim your camera for different tasks, also it makes it easy to invert your camera, so that the picture is upside down. The downside to the swivel braket is that it is quite wide, and pushes your camera a good inch out from the helmet. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I simply don't believe peopel who say that they can't afford it. It's pretty tough to get through buying decent gear for much less then $2000, and older cyprese cost roughly $500... Total cost $2500. The cost of the Cypres is less then 20% of the total gear cost. It's not insignificant, but it's also not huge. If you can afford the $2000, you can save a bit longer to afford the $2500. What I think is truely entertaining, is when people who bought new custom gear also claim to not be able to afford them... I pass no judgements against those who choose not to jump one, just as I pass no judgements against those who choose not to jump with a reserver (eg. BASE), but anyone to claims they can't afford one is offering a red herring. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Would you jump with someone you suspected of being high?
AndyMan replied to Katzeye's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If I knew they were stoned? No. I'd tell them why, too. If I suspected they were stoned? It would depend on how strong my suspicion was, and how complicated the jump was. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
