I don't have any pictures (I've never even met Holly), but I was flipping through my old Parachutists today and noticed an excellent Mike McGowan photograph of her 200th jump on pages 44-45 of the March '03 issue.

0:0:0 3 weeks until my next paycheck. I can only afford to do one jump (for currency) between now and then. Is Sky Knights flying on Fridays?

Are you considering buying a rig with a round reserve? If you are, there are some issues that you need to consider. You can find more about that in this thread. The money you save might not be worth it.

I can do it, but this feels like an assignment to me. If I do your homework for you, then I'll be hurting myself when we end up competing for the same job down the road. That said... If it isn't a school project and you can prove it, I'll be happy to provide you with my rate card (sorry, cash only, no jump tickets or beer). -
Does it have her name on it? No? Then go for it.

Basically, WEP is only acceptable is you want to stop the kid down the street from sniffing your packets. Governments and corporate spies have the resources to break it in a rather short time period. I would consider setting up encrypted IP tunnelling over the wireless link. Intel's guide is targeted toward a coporate audience and is light on technical details, but is a good jumping off point.

I always take something. Today it was O'Reilly's Java Cookbook. Usually it's a magazine or something. Every once in a while I make the mistake of taking a novel into the bathroom. Last week it was Cryptonomicon (rereading for the second time). Turns out I was on the pot for like an hour. It's a good book.

The tires were weighted. It took 606 takes to make everything work. More info here and here (links stolen from Slashdot). Quicktime version of the commerical here

Just a heads up, giveboobs.com is now a hardcore porn site, definately not safe for work. Edit: I was sorta wrong up there. Giveboobs.com is still legit, it just immediately forwards me to popupads.net, which has ads for porn.

The same picture (minus the ad copy) appears in Poynter and Turoff's "The Skydiver's Handbook" in the section about pull-out pilot chutes.

Has the server changed? I get a "no route to host" error when I try to connect to the addresses that have worked before (irc.extremexweb.net, prince.simplecom.net, or 209.215.97.196) Edit: Never mind. It looks like a routing error somewhere between my ISP and the server. If anyone could recommend a good open IRC proxy, that would be nifty.

Not sure but I think some of these places (MSN, AOL, Yahoo, etc.) also harvest address of outgoing mail addresses and sell them off too. Also, just think about how many millions of subscribers each of those services has. Spammers could get hundreds of thousands (at least) good email address by just trying dictionary words with numbers on the end and eliminating the bounces.

It is possible to have bad body position during the pull, but still maintain stabliity and heading. You may be dropping a shoulder and correcting with your legs, for example.

I did my taxes in early February and had a check in my hands before March. BTW, you can file for an extension (which you are almost guarenteed to get) if you don't feel like cutting a check right away.

Check out a Harley dealer. They all supposedly carry them.

0:0:0 Between midterms at school and my crappy job and trying to find a better job, I don't have time for much of anything else. Anywho. If I get my work squared away and I get my reimbursement check for an expense report that I sent in, I'll be at either Hinckley or SK on Friday. I have to work Saturday, so that's out. Easter is a Big Deal around my house, so I probably won't be able to sneak off.

That was Kevin's cutaway at the Mardi Gras boogie, I think (lots of swearing, landing right by the hangar at the end?). If I recall correctly, it was a demo main, and the representative from Performance Designs was the one that hooked it up backwards. -
Plummet has done at least one a month for the last 18 or 20 months. Actually, I haven't talked to him since March, so it could have gone up. Keep in mind, this is in Wisconsin. It might be a national record, but the last I heard he's only claiming a state record. Somebody needs to petition the FAI for a new record category.

Sitfly is what is sounds like, basically the same position as sitting in a chair with your arms out the side, head up in the air stream. Freeflying is the term usually used to refer to vertical flight, either head up or head down, as opposed to flying on your stomach. Freestyle is sort of an artistic aerial dance. Many freefly photos here, and freestyle photos here. You really need to see videos of good freefliers and freestylists in action to really appreciate it.

what is the best position for canopy foward motion?

Parachutes can ride thermals. Not as effectively as a paraglider or sailplane, but it can slow your rate of descent. Last summer I was flying back from a long spot on a Casa load. I didn't seem to be losing altitude very fast, so I set up a huge landing pattern. Turns out I was flying almost straight down a road on my long downwind leg, and had been flying in the thermal generated by the pavement. I wasn't gaining altitude, but I definately had a slower descent rate than normal. When I turned and stopped flying over the road, I left the thermal and ended up landing out, because my little adventure had left me too far downwind.
