  1. Sun Path and TSE are licensing the Lazy Bag. I talked to the Sun Path rep at SDC a few weeks ago. She said that it would be available later this year, once testing is completed. FWIW, I met a guy who packs his main in a normal dbag with just the locking stows, then coils the rest of the lines into the pack tray. He thinks it actually softens his openings. I only had the nerve to try it once with my Spectre 170, but the opening didn't seem harder.
  2. Threads aren't being locked because of the issues being discussed, they are being locked because people choose to violate the simple rules: (most often rule #1)
  3. Looks like the server is just down. I ran a traceroute and got 17 hops before packets started disappearing into the void. If the server is being blocked by someone, it is happening outside of the US. I see two realistic options: 1) The server is down or the connection is broken somewhere on their end. OR 2) The server is overloaded, either unintentionally (lots of people want to know the news) or intentionally (denial of service attack).
  4. Most likely not. According to NBC 5, "The FAA restrictions imposed Saturday bar flights below 3,000 feet in an area bounded by Lake Michigan on the east, Irving Park Road on the north, Ashland Avenue and the Kennedy and Dan Ryan expressways on the west, and the Eisenhower Expressway on the south." Unless the DZs are flying over the city, it shouldn't affect anything. I can't find any info that mentions Meigs.
  5. Mayor Daley was pretty pissed off that New York and LA had no fly zones, so he badgered the FAA into putting flight restrictions over downtown Chicago. I'm sure that a 3000 foot minimum altitude will really do a lot to protect Chicago from yahoos in airplanes.
  6. It's definitely on Good Stuff, where they show the making of the "skier makes a wrong turn" commercial.

    Weekend Numbers!

    0:0:0 Maybe next weekend.
  8. You might also try eddie_velocity@kurupee.com
  9. Last email I got from them was March 6th with the tracking number for my suit. When I was ordering, I emailed Blas and Eddie a couple of times and got replies within a day or two every time. Edit to add: You might want to check your email settings. Last summer I had accidentally set something up wrong and every email I sent was just disappearing with no errors. I couldn't figure out why nobody was getting back to me.

    And now ...

... A pirate with a visible erection. Courtesy of 665. Sorry about the randomness, but I figured today could use some funny. And by funny, I mean pirates with erections. That, and 665 is a hilarious website that more people need to know about.
  11. Sigh. This is another one from the rec.skydiving FAQ (also the source of the breathe through your skin myth).
  12. Garmin's "about" page has a pretty good description of the various things that can cause accuracy loss in GPS receivers (down at the bottom of the page). They mention that civilian users use a UHF signal designated "L1," and that a second L2 channel exists (for the military? It would appear that even Google doesn't know).
  13. For what? Excercising their rights as Americans?
  14. Find out _everything_ about your system. Do searches on a Google. I know a few people who have gotten surprised when they had a motherboard or video card that didn't work very well with Linux (read: nForce). As for remote access, if you are connecting to something other than a Windows computer, VNC is just about the only option. It works very well, especially considering that you are paying $0 for it. If you are connecting to a Windows computer that supports remote desktop, you can use rdesktop. It works better than VNC, IMHO. A) Burning DVDs under Linux is possible. Data discs are just as easy as burning CD-Rs. I have no idea how hard burning movies onto DVD would be. B) The AD tools should work with VMWare. The best way to find out is to download the trial version and see what happens. C) You didn't mention what sound card you have. My SB Live! doesn't use 16 bit emulation and sounds great.
  15. Best bet is to try again later, or try from a different location. My Garmin eTrex and eTrex Legend (both 12 channel receivers, one with WAAS) report different EPE depending on time of day, weather, skyview, etc. Even side-by-side with WAAS turned off on the Legend, the units will frequently report different EPE. It may have something to do with the quality of the reciever, but it appears that the Legend is just the basic eTrex with a couple of extra buttons and better software.
  16. Why? It is being reported by "embedded press" units, who are allowed to broadcast at the discretion of the unit that they are embedded in, with specific rules about what they are allowed to mention.
  17. So are you claiming that a person's education is the best measure of their intelligence and the validity of their opinions?
  18. Sangiro (the guy that runs the site) needs to prepare synopses and photos of all of the gear. If he isn't aware of it's existence, then he can't put it up. Probably the fastest way to get this info up would be to PM or email Sangiro with a list of the gear and links to the manufacturer's website.
  19. Just found a link and remembered this thread. If you end up getting a WinTV type card (i.e., the STB model that you linked to), check out this article at ArsTechnica.
  20. Yeah, his last post was in Sep 2001.
  21. CNN was just reporting that Saddam normally doesn't wear glasses in public because he thinks it makes him look weak, and that he usually has cue cards to read from. Not that it really matters, Saddam puts his doubles on TV in his place all of the time, whether it's an emergency situation or not.
  22. I dunno. Maybe the time we tried to launch a meeker from the Casa, and I found myself standing alone on the ramp watching the rest of the group fall away. Or when Lew Sanborn invited me on an 8 way (maybe 9?) and I took it out. Or blowing my landing and eating it on video. How about when I looked at the GPS on jumprun and thought "120 knots groundspeed, 1.2 miles past, what the hell, I'm going." Ok, that last one was stupid, not embarrassing.
  23. Screw spotting, I can do that. This is gonna ruin geocaching.
  24. Wearing an AAD doesn not significantly reduce your chances of dying in a skydiving accident. It would seem to make more sense to require RSLs and large canopie before requiring AADs. Edit: Forgot my quote
  25. The short story was better. The newer made-for-TV movie starring Dan Cortese (formely of MTV) was much, much, worse.
