  1. Brent Finley and crew probably would have had some issues with chasing the ball out at 2000'.
  2. I can't see how the slider grommets hitting silicon bumpers will cause any more damage than the grommets hitting slinks or the top of the risers. Anybody have more info about this?
  3. More info and photos about the ball drop and chopper crash here
  4. Dring my FJC, the conversation turned to pilot chutes. After a few minutes on the subject, this one girl who didn't seem to be playing with a full deck (getting left and right mixed up, not being able to really remember anything) speaks up and says, "So, do we use the same kind of parachute as the pilot?" It took everything I had to keep a straight face. A few weeks ago while I was packing in the living room and explaining the thowout pilot chute to my dad, he asked me, "Do you just hold onto it the whole way down?" I guess it sorta makes sense. Not a lot of people understand why anybody would want to put such an important handle where it isn't visible to the jumper.
  5. I've added an aircraft since this last come up, so what the hell: Cessna 182 King Air Caravan Casa Otter (yesterday!)
  6. according to "at now + 258 days", November 29 is correct.
  7. Just so long as you understand that an RSL isn't designed only to, or even primarily to, "do the work for" you. That's gotta be the biggest misconception about RSLs. Further reading (results 1, 2, 4, and 7).
  8. Replying to myself. Just a couply of pictures from Hinckley yesterday. Tomas (fallingILweenie), the hangar in the fog, and the Otter.
  9. 0:1:2 First time in an Otter, first jump at Hinckley.
  10. I'm going with: 1. Hot 2. Russian 3. Good at marketing to the male demographic
  11. I have a pair of SportRX G-107s done in the same prescription of my glasses. The work good for me. There is a little distortion around the edges of the goggles, but that might be because my prescription is actually a little bit beyond the recommended maximum. Also, you can expect the reduction in peripheral vision that comes with any goggle in that style.
  12. So the Stones will be on stage for maybe 10 minutes?
  13. 8 songs out of 400. And I figured out how to steal them all by myself.
  14. I don't want to sound like the Morals Police or anything, but it's pretty ballsy to come right out and ask for help stealing like $400 worth of software.
  15. I was right! That doesn't happen a lot.
  16. More skydiving, right now.
  17. I think maybe that was a tease for something that will be shown later.
  18. They just got in a van. Must be on the way to the DZ.
  19. I assume you mean that litle piece of boilerplate in the cover of every magazine? Here's the relevent parts from the latest issue of Parachutist.

    You gotta do this!

Am I the only one that noticed how it worked? The result page isn't on Google's servers. Somebody created a mirror of an old Google hack that showed that for a regular search. I'm Feeling Lucky shows the first result of your search. Since the mirror has the exact string in it, that's what you get.
  21. Scandinavian Metal is totally fucked up. Mayhem is totally fucked up:
  22. I'm there if I don't have to work. What time does the safety day stuff start?

Make sure that you have DMA turned on. Open the Control Panel, then the System tool. Click on the button for the device manager. Under IDE Controllers, right click on Primary IDE Channel and select Properties. From the Advanced Settings tab, make sure that all of the Transfer Mode drop-down boxes are set to "DMA if available." Do that for all of the IDE Channels listed in the device manager. See if your speeds improve. (Note: some of the menus might be different in versions of Windows other than Win2k)

    RSLs

The average jumper will never have a Cypres fire. The average jumper is very likely to have a malfunction requiring a reserve ride at least once in his jumping career. How many people do you know who would be dead without a reserve, and how many people do you know who would be dead without a Cypres?

    RSLs

I don't buy this argument. I don't think I could find and disconnect my RSL fast enough in a violent spin, the one type of mal where I would want it disconnected. If I jump with an RSL, I have to assume that I won't be able to or won't have time to disconnect it before cutting away.
