  1. Scratch the flat screen. They're cool and all, but other than saving some space, it won't really improve your computing experience.
  2. A few thousand dollars and a plane ticket to Russia will get you a flight in a your choice of Russian fighters. I wanna do the Flanker. You get to ride in the front seat, do aerobatics, go supersonic, the whole bit.
  3. Step 1: Build kit. Step 2: Build tiny little Stilleto. Step 3: Rig servos to front risers. Step 4: Swoop.
  4. You'll also need to buy the electric plane (called a Porter, but it ain't a Pilatus) to get him to altitude. I asked the guys at the local hobby shop, and they said that all together, with radios and batteries (not included in the kits), the whole shebang would cost upwards of $500.
  5. Aerodyne International (which PISA was rolled into) has said that they will handle service on PISA equipment.
  6. 0:0:0 Work on Saturday. Was gonna go to Sky Knights today, but I forgot to set my alarm clock and slept until noon (too much work and not enough sleep). By the time I was ready to leave, the weather looked like crap so I stayed home.
  7. The following is a quote from the 04/01/01 edition of SDC's Weekly Update email newsletter, written by Roger Nelson, the DZO. I try my best not to read too far into things, but that last sentence seems to serve mostly to imply that DZs that do not require drug testing of staff are effectively condoning drug and alchohol use.
  8. raining and freezing work starts in seven hours yet i can not sleep
  9. To paraphrase Quade, "Drop Zone makes Cutaway look like a freakin' documentary." BTW, it's also on at 7:00 Central on channel 50 in Chicago.
  10. It is obviously the CIA's handiwork. I mean, they created the AIDS virus to kill Africans, and now SARS to kill Asians.
  11. A new Twin Otter, waiting for me at Sky Knights, the rain drizzles down.
  12. I've seen it on Fox and NBC. I would assume that most of the other major networks would have it as well.
  13. It's been doctored. The last time I saw it there was an "h" that seems to be missing now.
  14. Any idea about what wingloading I would have to fly? Also, I've seen people cautioned about flying Lightnings with low jump numbers. My guess is that I will be at around 80-85 jumps by then, if the spring weather and my job cooperate.
  15. I don't think that this analogy holds. With Kazaa, I can effortlessly distribute thousands of perfect copies of the same piece of music. Copying off of the radio results in much lower quality recordings, and it only works on a scale several orders of magnitude smaller than what is possible with the Internet.
  16. 67 jumps right now, no CRW. One of the goals I've set for myself this season is get my 4 stack award, and maybe do a downplane. For some reason, the stack seems scarier than the downplane to me. Anyone know if Sky Knights or Hinckley has a regular group of CRW jumpers?

    Post your rig

I don't have any pictures and the batteries in my digital camera are dead. But, it's really easy to visualize: All black Vector III, rainbow pinstripes. Black and orange (mostly orange) Spectre 170. Edit: I do have a picture! FallingILweenie wearing my rig at Hinckley a couple of weeks ago.

    Zorb

Jackie Chan used one of those in his movies. Pretty cool.
  19. I used to swear that I would do whatever it took to avoid getting a cell phone. I ended up buying one because it was virtually impossible for my employees to get ahold of me on a land line at work. It's come in handy so many times outside of work that even if I get a different job, I probably won't get rid of it.

    Off to Ohio

Are they flying it on Friday? Cause I've got nothing to do and (god help me for saying this) a trip to Wisconsin sounds like fun.
  21. Y'all might want to check out "Storyville, USA" by Dale Peterson. They pick 60 weird town names, then over the course of a couple of summers, drive to all of them and find out the stories behind the names.

    NSL Anti war

So the Swiss 4-way team stopped training for a week to protest the war and the NSL reported it on their web site. I don't see how this makes the NSL anti war, unless you consider every media outlet on the planet to be anti war for giving coverage to war protesters.
  23. Hint: What day is today?
  24. Pennying doors is always good. My favorite: When the person is asleep in their room, tape a bunch of newspaper into a large "pocket" that runs from floor to ceiling in front of their door (it has to be an inward swinging door). Fill the pocket up with packing peanuts. When they open their door the peanuts get sucked into the room and it's like a blizzard.
