Hypothetically, maybe it's because it was designed to break there. A fully inflated main can create much more snatch than a pilot chute. If this snatch exceeds a certain force then we could run into the hypothetical reserve bag strip.(if you believe in that) I know of three occations where the red laynard has broke. They were all on very large parachutes 300+ that had a 1.3 wingloading. I would like to hear why it was rescinded too. (if it was) Eric you have been in these forums a lot lately, can you clarify for us?

Who "owns" the copyright on most videos?
divnswoop replied to labrys's topic in Photography and Video
Then there is the whole argument over putting copyright music on a video. Some people think that it is not ok to put it on a single video for one tandem student....but if you put it on a year end video and sell 75 copies....it is alright. Figure that one out for me!?!?! ps...is it cold in Ohio yet? pss: 6......number of negative replies of several hundred -
Is anybody aware of a ZP reserve out on the market? (other than Precision) Thanks in advanced

WEll, while both are fragile......I think the 320 lb bundle attached to me with a 10' teather took the brunt of the impact. I did replace my divot, but you can still see the two "smile" imprints towards the southwest part of the landing area. ps: I have yet to leave a divot from my body. (as Swoop knocks his fist on his head)

Hopefully, the divots I put in the landing area today will have grown back in by then!

Sport skydiving on history channel 9/19/08
divnswoop replied to jclalor's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The US Marines use this HALO Static Line Drogue..1st and 2nd MSOB have it. Exept for the Marines where it is very common now Yep, I am sure we lost all kinds of future skydivers with that comment... Great job to everybody who has put the show down. Maybe we should start a movement to get the show removed from cable TV. It is shows like this that is killing our sport....right? -

Skyvan and Helicopter in Ohio for Labor Day 2008
divnswoop replied to PhreeZone's topic in Events & Places to Jump
"Uncle Don" will be travelling with the Skyvan. Make sure you wish him a happy birthday on Sunday.(Our birthdays) If I get a chance I will swing by and say hi. .....Don is the white/ haired guy who kinda looks like a "scary uncle". -
(Depending how fast I count, I am around 5200' at pull time) Wow, your pulling 700' above *Minimum* USPA container opening and you have people taking shots at you with 600 jumps.....Pulling 3-4 seconds above *minimum* container opening altitude. I remember four people taking shots at me cause I pulled my tandems at 5500' back in the day. Looking back, one of those T"I"'s had a cypres fire while his wore out SET-400 was opening/ ended up with a Main/Reserve entanglement and another, well.....he might be with us if he had an additional 1000'. But he is not. Tell them to fuck off.

I will be hanging with Art next week..and since he needs me for wheels, I will beat it out of him....and I will make him contract a C-130 for the flop. That is right....you heard it here first, a C-130 for the flop! .and for an additional $50 you can be on the C-130 load that takes off with JATO rockets! 0- takeoff in 2000'!

AMEN....WESH 2 here in Orlando is horrible...they have been playing this up for four days, even taking up the first 15 min of a 30 min newscast. What the dumb "stupid fuckers" don't mention is most thunderstorms during summer have stronger winds/ damage potential.....but that doesn't get ratings. they had no less than 5 idiots on location today.." Lets go to kelly in tampa, kelly, what is it doing there?...well joe is is gusting all the way to 49 MPH....just a minute ago a trash can from the beach was blown COMPLETELY over..blah..blah...blah.. Don't get me wrong, hurricanes are nothing to mess with......tropical storms are something we have every day here......quite putting my family in a panic that Florida will be wiped off the map...I am in Deland now and there are stars out with a 10 mph breeze...

Pull the pin on 7 or 8 and throw them until you hit the target? J/K!

I saw the #8 at a trade show in Malaysia. It seemed a little too small to get a good grip on. The sleeve needed some improvements too as it didn't release very smoothly. All the other Benchmade knives are awesome though.

Re: [crutch] Fatality - Delphi, IN - 3 - August 2008
divnswoop replied to mattaman's topic in Safety and Training
We are missing the big picture here. Every RSL fatality starts with one thing. If we removed this, there would never be another RSL death and I for one don't want to see another. It is the parachute. ....parachutes have been killing people for years and I am tired of it. These deaths might be an acceptable loss to some, but not me. Some may view it as a safety device used to save your life while falling towards the ground, but as soon as I point out that it has been involved in over 110 fatatities in the past 6 years, Everybody wants to defend it. Well, not me. I personally have lost 21 friends due to these death machines while only loosing one due to an RSL. You may think these deaths are acceptable, but we need to do something NOW to prevent these deaths. -

divnswoop replied to mattaman's topic in Safety and Training
Wow.....So no one should ever make another skydive unless they have a skyhook. I like it. It makes my job all that more secure. I will support you when you go in front of PIA and the FAA. What do you need me to do? BTW, I am still curious about what you think about the ratio of: Cutaways with no pull fatalities to: Unstable cutaways with entanglements possible caused by RSL's are. What is the ratio? -

You have been beating this skyhook drum on many threads for several days....... I also think that the Skyhook is a great device that removes many possibilities of accidents. (and not because I work for them)....But you keep throwing out that RSL's "kill" people. Take the last 15 years in the sport. How many people had an accident where the RSL may have contributed to the accident.....then figure out how many people have cutaway and hit the ground without a parachute above them. Numbers do not lie. What is the ratio? 4-1....5-1.....or 10-1? Do you know? Yep, screw those manufactures that spend thousands of dollars inventing these safety devices. They *OWE* it to the jumping comumunity because they are a manufacture...they are selfish cause they won't give away their inventions for free. What horrible people they are. in fact, because of people like you they start to realize that maybe they shouldn't invest time and money to come up with inventions that may save lives. Trust me, I agree that 1 death in the sport is tooo many, but your agruement is the exact reason that people give up on making it safer. -
Actually $39 is about the lowest GSA rate depending on where you are travelling to....it also goes $59+ on domestic travel ....and $130+ for some international travel http://www.gsa.gov/Portal/gsa/ep/contentView.do?contentId=17943&contentType=GSA_BASIC

I understand. I get annoyed when people expect a volunteer to go out of their way to make it convienent from them to communicate. I also get annoyed when people post their random opinions on thread and don't contribute to what is being discussed. So I guess we all have things that annoy us.

Wow..........maybe I should highlight the end of my post.... "They have only taken my phone calls and emails......" Goes to show you the average skydiver has a 5 second attention span.
