Overcoming motion sickness
Aviatrr replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Go spend a few months on a small boat. The first few weeks will suck, but you'll build up an immunity to it after a while. Sorry, but it's the only way I know of....a good friend of mine went through it in the Coast Guard. Mike -
Is my suit there yet?!?! huh, huh?? I think you need some new teammates that won't leave you stranded AND sober.. If I had caught this post an hour ago, I'd be there drinking with ya.... Mike

Mine does not have the "dynamic" corners that allow the bottom flap to lay flat - mine just has the corners open half way down the bottom flap. It allows the bottom flap to flop down a little, but the biggest thing is that there is no corner for the D bag to catch on, which would likely cause severe line twists. Attached is a pic of it open, though....the D bag is in the "normal" position, not grommet up like I pack it for wingsuit jumps. This is my only rig, so I use it for all types. I've only had off heading openings a couple times with my wingsuit - usually they are dead on heading with no line twists. Mike Edit to add: I plan to, in the not too distant future, order a second rig primarily(maybe strictly) for wingsuit. It will be a Wings with their wingsuit mods - but I am not sure whether or not they offer the dynamic corners or just open corners like my Mirage has. I would suggest anybody considering a rig for mainly wingsuit stuff look at the Wings, and ask Sunpath(if you're interested in a Jav) what mods they offer. I know a couple guys at Deland were "testing" BM mods for them.

HOW?? Explain this to me. This makes absolutely no sense. Do you stow your lines differently for a psycho pack than a pro pack? If so, you're doing something wrong. Lines come out at the center for both pack jobs. Stow the lines as you would a pro-pack. As for the off heading openings.....are you remembering to take out the 180degree line twist you induce when you flip the bundle over? I've seen many people bag the canopy, then start stowing their lines without flipping it all back over(or flipping it the wrong way, inducing a full line twist), and then they complain about off heading openings. 10 meters? Is that it? Wasn't it previously within 2 meters of target(giving you a 4 meter circle)? 10 is freakin' huge! Mike

I say we launch a pre-emptive strike... Mike -
It's a $1 coin. That's all it's worth. Maybe less, since it's old....but, what the hell...I'll give ya $1 for it. Mike

I fear beer......hmmm...no, wait a sec....I love beer...if I got that backwards.....uh, oh...what's in my fridge? Mike

I'm not familiar with the Quasar container, but Chuck mentioned overlapping corners so there isn't canopy/lines hanging out....well, here are some pics of my Mirage G3 with the BM mod straight from the manufacturer(I ordered the rig with the mod). This rig is about 2 years old, size M3X. BMMod1 is the container closed up as normal. BMMod2 is the container open, but all flaps still in place. BMMod3 is a close up of one of the open corners. BMMod4 is a both open corners, with the flaps pulled open. As you can see, with the overlap and everything closed, there is nothing exposed....I think that's what Chuck is referring to with the Morpheus mod. Mike

Damn....you must be one of those rich skydivers I've heard about......oh, wait a sec....did you ride in the passenger or cargo compartment? Mike

The downside to selling something like that on eBay is the shipping cost. Of course, you would require the buyer to pay those costs.....but since they will be pretty high, that will lower the max bid that people are willing to put in. As for the seller rating thing....not to worry, my first couple eBay sales were items that went for several thousand dollars and nobody ever made mention of my zero seller rating. Mike

Funny thing, though....one of those "incriminating" pics ended up on a very public website...can't say where, though... Mike

Just make sure you reset your altimeter....we'd hate to have you pulling at like 6k on every jump....then again, we may be able to accomplish something after that.....on second thought, forget what I said about resetting your altimeter....nevermind.. Mike -

Damn, man....we don't need to hear about all your planned choking activities.....I hope you're not staying in the same team room I am.. Mike -
It only took me like 7 or 8 minutes on a DSL connection.....not bad.. I started the download, went and got the mail, read it, and it was done when I got back.. Interesting video.....I expected a bit more skydiving....but it was nicely made...though the actors could use a little bit of.....ummm....practice... Mike

Got that right.....Florida is like Mecca for such women...or maybe it's Mecca for the guys that flock here... Hmmm.....on second thought....Florida sucks...don't even think about moving here! Mike

It's a shame to see such a piece of history go by the wayside.. It kinda puts an end to the idea of any supersonic airliners in the next couple decades....I don't think anybody is working on designing one anymore. Now they seem to be gravitating more toward the transsonic region...but under 1.0. Maybe one day I'll get to fly an SSBJ...since my chances of flying a fighter are all but gone now. Mike

Read.... http://www.precision.net/psycho/psycho_pack.htm ...I get the impression that manufacturers that say NOT to psycho-pack a canopy do so because either...1) They don't want to promote a method started by the president of another manufacturer...or 2) They have not tested their canopies with psycho packs, so they must say "don't do it" to limit their liability. Mike

Do you already own the rig, or are you planning to order one? If you are going to order it, ask Strong to do it before they deliver it. Not a very difficult job for a qualified Master Rigger. Maybe time consuming, but not difficult. Mike

I don't use the earplugs that form a completely air/water tight seal. The standard foam earplugs do not do so - so your ears will equalize normally. Only the earplugs that are designed to keep water out are really airtight, AFAIK. Don't use those. Mike

Mine is due in this week.....waiting....waiting....waiting.... Mike
-
The main reason I take my earplugs out before exit is so that I can hear better once under canopy. I haven't ever heard anybody else under canopy that I didn't know was there(usually side by side or in a stack), but it's the ONE time that may save my life, or somebody else. Mike

Your buddy has had mals because he doesn't have a clue how to properly pack, obviously. It kinda frightens me that he is a rigger...and the fact that you are a rigger too, and honestly believe the psycho-pack is the cause of his mals. I have well over 500 jumps on my own psycho-packed canopies(including Sabre, Sabre2, Stiletto, Crossfire), and not a single mal induced by psycho-packing. I did, however, have a nasty spinner on a pro-pack.....so should I blame the type of pack job? I psycho pack all the time, and have taught several others to as well....and no problems. Mike

I wear the cylindrical, tapered type(most of 'em I've seen are green). I wear them in the airplane, take them out just before exit. I'm not worried about hearing damage from the freefall - my helmet does a good job of keeping that noise level tolerable for the short duration.....but I AM worried about the noise from the airplane. I also wear earplugs in the airplanes at work(with my headset over 'em). My hearing has always been very sensitive, and I don't want to lose any more of it than I have to. Mike

The solution to THAT problem is easy....just make TWICE as many! Keep trying to talk Dagny into it....I don't think she needs much convincing! Maybe you can ride out there with Dave...? Hell, if you make a ton of jello shots, maybe I'd road trip instead of flying out! Mike
