A wing that is UNDERNEATH you can cause serious problems if you need to get rid of it. You'd have to roll over on your back to cut it away and fall away from it. In the case of a rigid wing, the best scenario, IMO, is one that is back mounted that you can cut away and fall away from it. According to the Skyray website, you can cut it away and it will deploy a recovery chute(like a smaller skysurf board). Mike

I remember reading an article recently about a couple of blind skydivers doing a copule of 2 ways. They had safety jumpers in the air with 'em to make sure they didn't lose each other and collide on deployment. They used multiple audibles, and the first guy pulled in place when his audible went off...the other guy tracked for a thousand or two feet then pulled. One of the safety jumpers stayed with him til he pulled. They were then both on radio for landing. I can't remember where I read it....maybe Parachutist? I'm sure somebody will remember where it came from. mike

If you find yourself in a low turn, rapidly approaching the ground.....don't be afraid to bail out of it and land downwind, crosswind, whatever... Get yourself level(remember the phrase wings level?) and flare. PLF like a mofo. The most important thing is to get the wing LEVEL! Mike

Betsy said you can also use a debit card for jump tickets and not have to pay the additional fee....so cash or debit card works for the jump tickets. Mike

Fireplaces are cool if you live someplace that gets cold enough to use them. I can't, for the life of me, figure out why people have fireplaces in Florida. There might be two days a year you can actually get good use out of it....the rest of the year you'd have to run the A/C to keep the fireplace from heating the place up too much.. Mike

Today I had to run a bunch of errands around town. A typical day driving around in Orlando....lots of traffic on the surface streets. Less than 5 miles from my house, I damn near T-boned a woman that turned left in front of me and STOPPED in the middle of the intersection for no apparent reason. I'm in a 4,000lb truck. She's in a Ford Focus. When I came screeching to a halt(along with the car in the lane next to me) just a few feet from her car....I realized...she's not even looking up...she's reading a fucking map! A couple hours later, a friend and I had just had lunch and we were leaving the parking lot. Some guy pulling into the parking lot nailed my buddys' car because he tried to take the turn into the parking lot way too fast. He tried to blame my buddy for being "too far over" in the driveway. When the police showed up, he had this elaborate story made up about how my buddy had pulled out in front of him, then after he hit him, backed up and made it look like he was just sitting there. I saw it....I know the truth...oh, and my buddy...he's a cop..the guy had no idea until the OPD officer told him that after filling out the report. Then, of course, there was the usual stuff....people slamming on the brakes, nearly stopping in their lane, then making a left turn from the right lane.....people not noticing lights turning green for 20 seconds - just long enough for it to turn yellow just as they go into the intersection, screwing everybody behind 'em...people not paying attention when changing lanes(because they are talking on their cell phone usually) and nearly hitting ya... ....but the thing that pissed me off the most today.... This dumb bitch was driving along, swerving all over the place...using her lane and half of the next, plus the shoulder.. Finally she kinda calms down and stays in her lane...so I decide to pass as quickly as I can...as I'm approaching the back of the car on the right, I see two kids - one about 5, the other about 8 or 9 - climbing on the seats, over the seats, and just being rambunctious as hell......and she's reading a goddamn book! We ended up at a stoplight about 1/2 a mile down the road, and I ended up just rippin her a new one(her windows were down) about not having her kids seated and belted in(she was important enough to wear one, but not the kids). She told me...Fuck off and mind your own business dickhead! What a great example for the kids she so obviously cares so much about. I'm not normally this much of a prick....but when I spotted a cop a few blocks down, I had to stop and tell him about her kids climbing all over the car...I have zero respect for shitheads like that that obviously don't care for their kids safety.. When I passed by a couple mins later, he had pulled her over and was writing a ticket....it's not much, but maybe it'll teach the dumb bitch a lesson... I fucking hate stupid people.. Mike

Yep...I've got about 10-15 jumps out of that one....usually with just two of us on board.. 13k in less than 15 minutes. Mike

How long are you gonna be around for? You could hit 'em both....it's only about a 90 minute drive between the two. Lake Wales is better during the week - more loads go up each day than Sebastian. Sebastian has got a much better view. Both have Twin Otters, plus Sebastian has a Caravan, and Lake Wales has a C182 they'll fly with as few as 2 fun jumpers. Both are awesome places.. Mike

Since it's static line, I'd say one. If it were freefall, two or three. With S/L they won't get a real taste of what skydiving is all about....unless their one of the few that like the canopy flight better than freefall. I had 8 people in my FJC(IAD, similar to S/L) back in '96. Everybody was amazed to see that of those 8, 4 of us finished the progression and continue to jump for at least a couple hundred jumps. Two of those guys are dead now, both from botched hook turns. I was unfortunate enough to witness one of them. The other guy that finished with us quit jumping after the accident I witnessed(which was the second guy to be killed). As they say....if you're in this sport long enough, you'll either see somebody die or know somebody that does. Mike
