1. ...you are correct. For Wingsuiting the absolute minimum that is generaly recommended is 150-200 jumps. You should be able to do that in a season if you do like Gildeangle says and save up all winter and get ready for the spring! Not that it is cheap either but an indoor skydiving tunnel is opening in or near Montreal (see Wind Tunnel forum for more info) sometime in the spring. Tunnels can help with training any may allow you to advance quicker....like I said though Tunnel time unfortunately is not cheap.
2. Nouvelair is a phenomenal drop zone and is only about haff an hour from Montreal. They have an outstanding student program and excellent facilities. http://www.nouvelair.ca/ P.S. BASE links automatically to a sister site of DZ.com..... P.P.S. Find a way to pay for your student jumps...believe me you will not regret it and before you know it you will be able to fly a wingsuit which is about the most bad-ass fun thing you can do.
3. Sad...another one: http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/10/16/chopper.crash/index.html
4. Does it come with student wingsuits? If so, I'll buy it for a shabawanga! Phil.....go!
5. Funny I just calculated my wing loading and that is exactly what mine is too....also with a Spectre 150 ...yup....I never really worry about getting spun up. I got the Spectre when I started WS and I love it.
6. Didn't you learn your lesson after you spent a night in the Clink in Miami?
7. The gear shop at Skydive Chicago (http://www.para-concepts.com/) is only about 2 hours away.
8. Measurements? Not needed for cheap jumpsuits. You just pick from one of the sizes they offer: XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL Good news too....you get to pick your color! Suit Available in Assorted Colors
9. Very very fun. The weather was perfecto and the Otter dropped it's first load from Lebanon right at 9:00 A.M. so we were jumping all day. They did about 18 loads and we had 9 wingsuiters there and about 75-80 people overall. We did a demo into the hotel (beautiful!) so we lost about 2 hours but we all got in 4 or 5 jumps. Scotty could not make it but I will see if someone else has pics. The "sunset" load was very nice as we had some puffy mountains in addition to the real mountains. Taya had a chop and Jeff spent the day looking for it so they only got in 1 jump.... actually don't know if he spent the day looking for her main or Stony who landed out
10. very cool....what kind of camera was used?
11. the FAA is looking at EMS Helicopter safety too....it is not just skydiving planes they care about! http://www.faa.gov/news/fact_sheets/news_story.cfm?newsId=6763 http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2008-06-30-Crashes_N.htm
12. Totally agree.....great scene. Not my favorite scene because I more enjoyed the ones I was in but a great part nonetheless.
13. Flockers....this is 2 days away. Play hookie from work if you need to. It is supposed to be sunny and in the mid to high sixties. Should be a real fun day.
14. Jeff and SkyDemon....funny as shit!
15. Hey Phil, is that the El Avion Restaurant in Costa Rica?
16. "FLY BABY FLY!!!". Nice episode....twas very cool to finally see it.
17. ....prolly because an animator who got the info through layers and layers of people who know very little about skydiving fucked up. Small error...you missed a pretty decent show that was pretty positive about skydiving, BASE jumping, and wingsuiting. Yes..the cartoon would have bounced if he had a mal.
18. I have been paying $45 or $50 for 5K for at least 3 years in New England. No wrist action either.
19. Just so ya'll know.... "the Works" on the History Channel is now scheduled to air this Friday at 8:00 P.M. EDT. Hopefully the clip with the host being filmed plane to plane from the 206 to the Otter made the cut.
