PE Saber 180.....experiences? Positives or negatives

You are correct. The K2 has similar features to the G, though. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

My crappy and misleading post was about the Rebel T2, not K2. Sorry. The T2 is the newest Rebel. The K2 is a newest G. Added: The K2 is compatible with the wireless remote, so you could probably rig up something. I'd get one that used the wired controller, though. http://www.canon.com/camera-museum/ Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

SOL, dude. Weekends only unless something special is up. You might call 901-SKYDIVE to see if they have tandems scheduled for that Monday, but I doubt it. Sometimes big groups from the Tunica casinos come up and do tandems so the dz is open during the week, but it is a bit chilly right now. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

These places people are telling you about are nice, but they are VERY suburban. And MEM does not have the type of suburban nighlife that ATL has. If you want to make it anything like living in Buckhead, you need to look on Mud Island or in some of the new lofts downtown. If you want an apt, there are apartments in South Bluffs and on Mud Island that are not outrageous. A Main Street loft will remind you of ATL rents. the hockey team is kind of a hike from the city proper - i know people who go, but i do not. the college part of town is midtown near highland, but there are not really any good apartment complexes around there - depends on what you want and what you want to spend. if you do not mind an older place in a good location the George Washington apartments off Poplar are relatively close to Overton Square (a decent bar area) and downtown. Get on the DD list and call me if you want a second opinion from someone who does not live in the bucolic part of MEM. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

It is the latest of the Rebel series - it adds lots of great features for "normal" photography, but does not add anything I can think of that you would use in freefall. Its ergonomics are a big improvement over the 2k and ti rebels - much more like the Elan series with a rear quick control dial. It also supports some custom functions. Mine used to come undone a good bit, so my rigger started making an effort to get less bulk up in the ears of the pack job. This does not look as good (to my eye), but it eliminated the problem. I have a W-21. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

Actually, since you are considering the EF-S 18-55 lens, I assumed you bought a 300D. The EF-S 18-55 will not work with a film Rebel. Film Rebels have EF mounts. Only the 300D and 20D will accept EF-S lenses without extensive modification to the lens, and if you do the mod you run the risk of the mirror hitting the rear element. The folks who are telling you to buy this lens with your camera are mistaken. There is no EF 18-55. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

A 24 is unlikely to be wide enough due to the 1.6x field of view factor. A 24 on a 300D has the same fov as a 24 x 1.6 = 38 on a full frame 35 camera. If you want the same fov as a 24mm on film, you need a 15mm. A rectilinear 15 will be $$$. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

I was lower until yesterday. Now, I have 391 jumps and a 1.43 WL. I promise to be really careful. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

Can anyone who has experienced or watched skyhook deployments tell me whether it appeared that there was a greater chance of the recently cut away main falling onto or into the newly inflated reserve. To ask another way - is there an increased chance of a collision with the deflated or deflating main? Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

>>I'm not gonna buy a canopy based on what fixes it has for it's own performance issues. I'm gonna buy one based on how it flies.

Wouldn't it be cool if two people, neither of whom even owned a canopy with this feature and neither of whom even claims to really understand how it is supposed to work or whether it works, got into a fist fight to settle this once and for all? I landed with my student's (off AFF - coach jump) cutaway main and freebag this weekend. This resulted in my not being able to debrief him after his landing, and I worry that he felt a little abandoned. I did not really think about it before, it may have appeared to him that I thought the dropzone's main and freebag were more important than he was, since he was left to fend for himself under a reserve while I landed off the dz. Thoughts? ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

A good time was had by all. Sunday was an interesting day, with three reserve rides. One was a cypres fire. Everyone please remember to pull your handles. They are more important than you think. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com -
My friend Jason had a two out where the main opened with many line twists through the hole in the center of the reserve created by two cells blowing out. It was NOT a stable configuration. There is a thread in the incidents forum. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

Given the high cost of gear, $25 is really not all that steep. My dropzone charges that, and the more I travel around, the more I realize how skydiver-friendly my dropzone is. Search for "rig rental" in the gear forum and you will find some threads where skybytch was asking what folks expected to pay and expected to get for their money when renting rigs. It is a pretty informative discussion of the costs of providing rental rigs, differing expectations about repacks, etc. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
