Search for "hyperfocal distance" on the web. The smaller the hole that lets the light into your lens (the larger the aperture number), the greater the range of distances from the film plane that will be in acceptable focus. So you might try using Av mode with the smallest aperture that gives an acceptable shutter speed for that day with your film. Then you can put the lens on MF when it is focused at its hyperfocal distance for that aperture and tape it in place. Note that the hyperfocal distance will pretty much always be well short of infinity. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

With freefall speeds varying so much in skydiving due to wingsuits and freeflying, maybe we should keep track of total distance covered vertically rather than total time spent. But I agree with the poster above who says that with 4K jumps, who cares? Before going with a group, I've been asked how many skydives I had. I've been asked how many sit jumps I had when I was going out with other freeflyers who were going to use me as a base. I've been asked how many headdown jumps I had. Scotty Carbone even asked me how many RW jumps I had in the past three months before letting me on a 12 way he organized. But I've never been asked how much freefall time I had. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

Does it make sense to have the freefly handle and a spandex pouch, or do you need to get a crodura BOC to really take advantage of the handle? ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

A friend and I jumped a 40 foot cliff in HS also. We were terrified. Then we made a pretty tough hike up and over to a 70. There was no doubt in either of our minds that jumping off that was going to kill us, so we hiked back down to the 40 and did it again. People who jump off 100 foot cliffs into water have big brass ones. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

USPA: Would you join if membership wasn't required?

For only $200 more they'll give you the "Made in USA" version instead of the Tiawanese one, complete with factory warrranty. But to get that price you have to buy 2 CF cards and 4 batteries. Oh, and did I mention handling fees, order processing fees, shipping fees, delivery costs, and excess fee administration fees? Those are all on top of the quoted price. Be very careful where you order your stuff from. Some of the disreputable dealers are VERY good at separating people from their money, even when you try to get your cc company to reverse the charge. B&H, Adorama, and KEH all have good reputations. Many other places do not. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

husband and wife jumping together
bmcd308 replied to rickjump1's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My parents had friends with kids about my age, and we went on vacation with them to Hawaii. My entire family and half theirs flew on one plane, and the other half of their family flew on another. My parents were willing to risk having the entire family wiped out in one crash. Their friends were not. People make different decisions. I am sure it is rare today for husbands and wives not to take commercial flights together due to the danger, but this happened back in the day when the passengers applauded every successful takeoff and landing, and you wore your church clothes to fly. Gold Coast or West Tennessee Skydiving for Memorial Day
bmcd308 replied to jazzjumper's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I pretty much agree with DS. I have been to both places, and the vibe is great at both. WTS has by far a better landing area and more outs, but Gold Coat has more girls that skydive. The Mullins KA is real fast, but Igo's Twin Otter has a bigger door. If you want to camp, bad weather will really put you in a bind at GC, while at WTS you can move your tent inside or just crash on the floor in the packing area. I am from Memphis, so I'd prefer you come hang out with us, but you probably can't go wrong either place. Both Mullins and Igo are great DZO's that really care about making sure everyone has a good time. Hope to meet you soon. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com -
Someone needs to repost the picture of Freaksis in her S&M gear. I can't find it, and I think it is actually from the old forums and no longer archived. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

I currently have a Hornet 190 and a Tempo 210. My next main will probably be a 150, but I'll keep the Tempo 210, assuming the container thing works out. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

From my knowledge of myself and my skydiving friends, I would say that undiagnosed depression is rampant in our sport, and in most high-risk adrenaline sports, for that matter. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
