http://www.ctnow.com/news/yahoo/hc-2nochute0507.artmay07.story http://www.boston.com/dailynews/126/region/Man_killed_in_skydiving_accide:.shtml Sad. If any of his family or friends is reading this, I am very sorry for your loss. BMcD...

"of dubious vintage and history" "new javs have excellent, ie very effective, bridle protection, and enhanced riser covers, along with some other nice touches " Very encouraging. Perhaps, if we are going to talk about things we do not like about specific makes of rig, we should also specify the year model we are discussing. That will avoid confusion such as this and perhaps make the debate more enlightening for all. BMcD...

I am certainly not saying that all rigs are Jav knockoffs, but there are some that look so similar that I can't help but wonder if they were not "inspired" by the Jav design. It would appear from prior posts that the bridle protection mod, which does indeed look like an "add-on" rather than part of the rig, does not do all we might have hoped to keep the bridle stowed during freefall. My reply was actually to a post talking about specific things folks did not like about specific brands of container. One thing I do not like about older Javs (and most newer Jav knockoffs) is that there is several inches of bridle exposed to the airstream. I had heard from some that this was fixed on newer Javs, and I have seen a Jav with this mod. It would appear from Aggie Dave's post that the mod is not tremendously effective. BMcD...

I guess I was hoping that the "flamefest" would be limited to discussion of what people do not like about various designs. I didn't mean to incite a net-riot or anything. Sorry.

I have thought about this also, primarily because I do not think that descent under canopy is as comfortable as being lowered after a top-rope climb. In my opinion, it would help a lot if the load attach point was moved down on the shoulder straps so that we were suspended by a point closer to (but still above) our center of gravity, like when using a dual harness climbing system (swami/seat and chest harness). I do not like the way the harnesses I have used so far give you that "carried by the nape of your neck" feeling. In a climbing harness, you are much more reclined and more comfortable. BMcD...

Let's have the flamefest. Hell, start a new thread if you think it is appropriate, but I think that if we all bitch some, maybe folks will listen. I'll start by bitching about every container design that is essentially a Javelin knockoff but failed to copy Javelin's bridle protection flap. Go brand by brand ... I'm curious to hear what you think. BMcD...

The total time from my wave to the ground was maybe 5 seconds. You should really wave before 1,000 feet to avoid this. :) BMcD...

When I read reviews of Tempo reserves, there are people whose beef is that they had to hold the toggle all the way down at waist level in order to make it fly straight. My question is whether this much asymmetry in the lines should not have been detected before the canopy was put in service. Or is this due to cells being manufactured with different sizes? I would think that if the lines were this much out of symmetry, it would have been detected when the canopy was new. BMcD...

Anyone have any details concerning the rumor that a jump plane went down in Conway, AR this weekend? I heard that no one was hurt, but I have not heard anything about what might have happened.
-
1:3:0 First of the three was a 13K hop 'n' pop. GREAT cross country canopy ride in some fairly strong uppers. A tandem rode the plane down this weekend at my dropzone. I had never seen that before, but I suppose that witnessing that does not count for a case. The TI figures he owes beer, since he had never landed in a jump plane. Do many tandems ride the plane down at your dz's? BMcD...

I lost 65 lbs in 3 months using BFL. I cannot recommend it enough. It was very intrusive in terms of what I had to do to stick with the program, but if you do what the book says, you will be amazed at the change. I did not build as much muscle mass as I had hoped during my 12 weeks, but the 65 lbs I lost was all fat. A little aside - when I was in college, I wanted to try skydiving, so I went with some friends to do a tandem. When we got there, I did not get to go because I was too heavy. I never really worried about my weight, but when I decided to lose it, my tandem was my reward for dropping the weight. Now, I absolutely love skydiving. Anyway, BFL worked for me. Brent

Where do you get a Hornet relined?

Rigs & Things Para Service - www.para-service.com - has a package called "The Affordable Rig" that includes a new Dolphin, Tempo and Hornet for $2,195. I upgraded to a Wings container, and my complete system was within your budget. I think I'll be able to enjoy this equipment for a long time. For a cheap used cypres, contact vx99@juno.com. He has one with just a few years left on it. They are priced according to the life left in them, and he wants exactly what the value calculator on the airtec website says it is worth. Getting one with only three or so seasons left will let you keep your initial cash outlay down. If you are out of the sport in three years, at least you have not prepaid for nine more years of use from your AAD.

I say give the student an alti. Your early skydives teach you habits that are hard to break. How many students have a backsliding problem on AFF1 because on their tandem they had it in their mind that their feet should be on their TI's butt? I say give the students all the tools and teach them to use them. Brent

I am looking for any reasons not to buy a Dolphin container. It appears to me to do everything I want it to. Does it lack any noncosmetic features of a Wings or Javelin? If you don't want to bash publicly, please e-mail me at bmcd308@yahoo.com. Thanks.

Have you actually done this? How did you go about doing it and how long did it take? I went to the oft-mentioned icarus site and asked for info, but I got no reply.

Who has PISA Hornets in stock in the US? Do they have a demo program? I remember that someone on this board was ordering one direct in February. Did it ever come?
