  1. Call me a dumbass, but what are "reverse risers?" ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
  2. I watch Jeff and Joel Mullins downwind canopies the size of my pilot chute every weekend. They are running like the houds of hell are after them at the end of the swoop, but they don't get dirty all that much. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
  3. Actually, grains. 437.5 grains per ounce. It would take an awful lot of pistol rounds to overpressure an aircraft. BMcD... ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
  4. It's a great video, but it's a shame it didn't have a better outcome. It's kind of like all the RW videos I've been in...their plot is nice exit, formation builds partially, Brent destroys formation, Brent goes low, round builds on Brent, Brent goes low, round builds on Brent, etc. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
  5. or the bed. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
  6. Yes, unless someone comes to tow it away first. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
  7. Maybe everyone to whom this applies already knows, but the replacement Not Marvin's Boogie will be held at West Tennessee Skydiving October 4-6. $14.00 to 14K. Should be at least as fun as yesterday's "skydiver holiday" at WTS. Hope to see at least some of you there. BMcD... ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
  8. If you have large hands (like mine), the standard controller is great. Kids can't really use them, but they are very comfortable in large adult hands. I have an XBOX, and I love it, but I am jealous of my friend with a PS2 because of all the great games. Many older PS games (which you can play on PS2) are tons of fun, while many XBOX games seem like they were rushed to market (which they were). Well-made XBOX games such as Project Gotham Racing and Halo really show off the XBOX. Nothing on PS2 can touch them. However, PS2 will play tons more titles, many of which are available very cheap at the used game stores. BMcD... ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
  9. I'll second what everyone is saying about body position. Even on a Hornet, I have been lazy about body position at pull time and wound up with a bunch of twists. It sucks to be flat on your back at 14 grand fighting with your risers. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
  10. Dave, what does the tool actually do? ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
  11. Bother anyone else? ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
  12. I've been to SkyVenture, and my take is that it is worth it IF you take your own jumpsuit. Using their big baggy jumpsuit changes everything. BMcD... ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
  13. UPDATE: I just got an e-mail that the KA will, in fact, be flying jumpers at West TN Skydiving this coming weekend. $16.00 to 14K+. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
  14. The King Air is scheduled to be at West TN Skydiving on both weekends you will be in the area. Unfortunately, it is currently in a bunch of pieces getting some required maintenance done. I do not know all the details, but the maintenance that was required involved taking the wings off, and there was a problem getting the correct parts. This resulted in no King Air for the last two weekends. You might PM jmiracl to see if she knows whether the KA will be flying while you are in town. Even if it is not, come out and jump the C195. 15. On the 4 question test, I was ENTP, although I felt like the first question was almost too close to call. So I took the 72 question test and was ENTP again. My "preferences" numbers were 44,22,78,44. Not sure what those mean. I took the i-village test and was INTP. I was actually surprised that three different tests gave such similar results (matching on 3 of the 4 attributes). BMcD... ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
  16. She was only nine weeks old, so the JM thought she should try some other activities first. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
  17. I saw a girl do this. Much better ourcome, but still very scary to watch from the ground. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
  18. Because that's the way the instructions say to do it. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
  19. Look at the "affordable rig" from Roy at Rigs N Things. It is a Wings/Hornet/Tempo system, and I feel like I got a great deal on mine at the time I bought it. From other threads it looks like prices in general may have come down some, so shop around yourself. I bought the most basic Wings you can get, and I am very happy with it. It is the most comfortable container I have ever worn, probably because the student gear at my dropzone did not fit me very well. I do not have an articulated harness, but I do not have any trouble walking around comfortably in the rig. For me, the articulation solves a problem that I either don't have or don't realize that I have, so I kept the cash. I did not get the quilted back pad, but I probably would if I had it to do over. I got the spandex BOC with a hackey, primarily because that is what everyone at my dropzone used at the time and I had never seen the other system. With the spandex BOC the bridle protection is excellent, and I have never had a problem with anything blowing loose. Since I got my rig, I have seen the cordura BOC with freestyle handle, and that system looks bombproof. If I had it to do over, I would probably get the freefly handle with cordura, but once again, that is a solution to a problem I do not have. I think the spandex/hackey is plenty secure. I don't see much use for B-12s. I have a large bottom ring and mini risers with mini rings. I like mini risers because they are easier to get all the way down in the riser covers. Ask the various manufacturers you are shopping about downsizing. It certainly appears to me that my Wings would be fine with a smaller canopy, but I will let them tell me that when the time comes rather than making the decision on my own. 20. The slider that came with my Hornet is the same size as some of the canopies on my dropzone. I do NOT roll the nose of my Hornet, as I had several openings that were WAY off-heading. When I started getting these bad openings, I read the packing instructions that came with the canopy and followed them, although I do roll the tail a few extra times and take special care to get the slider way out in front. This led to great openings. BMcD... ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
  21. I am very happy with my Hornet 190, and the prices being thrown around on this board are incredible. I bought mine in March, and $910 was the best I could do with much shopping (from Rigs n Things). It appears that in the meantime the exchange rate has improved further, as people are talking about $850 off the shelf elsewhere in the thread. I'd buy another one. 24. The manual that came with your Hornet explains the pro pack. Pack Like a Pro shows someone actually pro packing, but it really did not do much for me. IIRC, it is real cheap, though, and I'm sure you can find a used one to borrow at Eloy. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
  25. I do not rotate the bag on my Wings. From reading the manual, it appears that if you do rotate the bag on a Wings, you are supposed to rotate it the opposite direction from the direction most other bags rotate (so that the lines are against the bottom of the reserve container). ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
