I bet the Clintons are laughing their butts off. EDITED TO ADD - And in answer to your question, Bill, yes. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

I personally know someone who had a congenital defect that left him unable to procreate - essentially born with a vasectomy. I am not 100% sure that it was purely genetic and not environmental (many birth defects are actually a result of something going wrong in the womb rather than "predestined" at the moment of conception), but I am PRETTY sure that it was genetic. In another thread, my mahood is being questioned because of my large car and firearms ownership, so I feel the need to act extra macho in this one. Brent Edited to add quote, since this was not right below Judy's post ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

I think this argument turned out to be a loser in 1865, although I am curious to watch how this plays out. I wonder if the San Fran city cops will take up arms to defend the city's stash of weed from the armed DEA agents who come to take it. That would be an awkward moment in American law enforcement. If your fear is of being shot, then your arguments make sense. If your fear is of dying or being seriously injured, then they do not. People who are out to rape, maim and kill will do it regardless of the availability of a certain tool. They will find a firearm illegally (since the cost to them of getting caught will be low) or use a substitute tool, or no tool at all. Remember that Cain killed Abel with a rock. None of my handguns have ever shot a person. Here it is without them - "Well meaning but uninformed individuals disseminating misinformation to other uninformed individuals eventually wind up getting ineffective solutions implemented." In general, the only ones who will be affected by additional gun control laws will. GC laws affect people like me, who would rather skydive with you than rob you (or argue with you, for that matter). The costs of disobeying those laws are much higher for people like me, so the effective penalties are higher. There is also a cost of compliance, however: my inability to participate in a sport that I love. Second Amendment quote - "It depends on how you look at it." It really should not. It says what it says. I think it is very sad that people disagree about this. It shows what people will believe if they hear it repeated enough. "Moderate" has come to be defined as pretty liberal over time, don't you think? This is similar to poisonings and drownings in the home, which are far more frequent. They are all tragic accidents, but they should not eliminate one's ability to keep a gun, or a gallon of bleach, or a 5-gallon bucket of water in their home. Kids need supervision. Like household chemicals, firearms can be dangerous. Don't let your kids kill themselves or each other with either one. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

A guy from our dz had exactly the same thing happen, only he was able to catch the guy and trade back before the plane took off. Good thing, too. They guy I know flies a napkin, and the rig that looked a little like his had a 170 in it. Perpetrator of rig grab was horrified. BMcD... ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com -
Is there some chance that he had that for personal protection while driving alone cross country? Or can we assume that anyone with a gun means to shoot whomever he is on his way to meet? If he had a machette, would you assume he meant to cut her? A pocket knife? How about if he showed up in a car capable of running her over? Just questions to ponder ... I'm not a fan of molesters, myself, but it does bother me when people jump to conclusions about intent. BMcD... ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

I agree with you. The dog shows all indications of being in good health and receives adequate care in terms of food, water, and shelter. I can't imagine that a rescue group would try to take it, and if they did, I would probably be on my neighbor's side of that particular dispute. I just want it to STFU. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

I went to the juvenile pokey for a few hours pending pickup by my parents on a JPA (juvenile posession of alcohol) after a party got a little louder than the sensibilities of the community could tolerate, and I'm counting that as a yes. BMcD... ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

I figure there are lots of different types of folks on the forums, so I thought this would be a great place to get insights from people with lots of points of view on what has become a very serious problem for me. My next door neighbors are in their mid-to-late 50's, and they have a daughter in her late teens or early twenties. The parents are not home much, and the daughter basically lives in the house with her boyfriend and her dog. The problem is that the dog does not live in the house. He lives in the yard. She leaves him out there until all hours of the morning, often 3:30 or 4:00 AM. He barks constantly when he is outside. Not at passing cars or leaves or sirens, but at nothing. It is the loudest alarm barking I have ever heard from a dog, and it is impossible for me to sleep. Both me and the people who live on the other side of me have gone ever there and been very nice about it asking them to keep the dog in. I have been over there three times over the course of about three months, not counting the times I have been over there to find no one at home. The day after Christmas, I went over at 8:00 in the AM (the time I am supposed to be at work) to tell them that I did not appreciate their leaving the dog out until 4:00 the previous night. The daughter answered the door, told me it was rude of me to wake her, and then shut it in my face. So anyway, fast forward to this morning, when I back out of my driveway and realize that my right front tire is flat when I start going down the hill. As I look over the tire, there are four nails side by side in it. I am figuring that the four nails were propped up against it so that they would puncture it when I backed over them. This could have been a random act by some vandal, or I could have happened to have run over four nails when the same spot on the tire was down, but I can't help but think that the only unpleasant human interaction I have had recently has something to do with it. Anyway, I need dog advice, car advice, neighbor relationship management advice, and any other stuff you guys think might be helpful. Thanks. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

My former future wife, at age 26 or so, had a grand mal seizure while grocery shopping. Like you, it was the first of her life, and it was an incredibly uncertain period for her and for everyone in her life. We went to jillions of doctors and she went through tens of jillions of tests, but we never found out the cause. She has never had another one, and we have never found out why she had the first one. After 6 months seizure free, her doctor signed her off to drive again, and now 6 years later, as far as I know this is a distant memory for her. Hang in there. What we learned is that seizures can be caused by all kinds of things, and sometimes you never even find out what caused them. I know you are living with the Sword of Damacles hanging over your head, wondering when the next time you'll wake up in an ambulance will be, but there is always a chance that any seizure will be your last. Hang in there, don't let your meds get you down, and keep living your life. You had a seizure; you didn't die. BMcD... ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

Oh yeah, like I'm really gonna send two rigs in an unlocked bag!
bmcd308 replied to quade's topic in The Bonfire
Always before, it has meant locked case with no ammo in the piece of baggage as the rifle. Ammo had to be in the factory packaging (for whatever reason) and in a separate, locked case. The piece of baggage containing the rifle had to be FAA approved, as did the lock on that piece of baggage. Ammo could be in whatever bag you wanted, but the lock itself still had to be FAA approved. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com -

I fly with rifles. Their cases HAVE to be locked with an FAA approved lock. What do I do? ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com -
I did BFL about two years ago, but I was only able to stick with it for about 8 weeks. I lost about 40 lbs of fat in those 8 weeks. I fell off the wagon despite the great results I was getting, but doing it changed the way I eat on a lasting basis, and I have been able to keep the weight off. BFL is actually responsible for my becoming a skydiver - the first time I tried, I was told I was too heavy to do a tandem. I really wanted to do one, and a tandem was my treat for myself when I made it down to 225. Now I weigh 195. I started at 265. YMMV, but if you actually do what the books says (to the letter, with journal, pictures, etc.) and take advantage of the free 800 number, you WILL change the way your body looks. And that's another thing to consider - BFL is a "cosmetic" fitness program, not one designed to make you able to run a marathon. BMcD... ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
