From the "people are stupid" files: I cannot unzip a zip file on my pc due to the desire of my IT department to protect me from myself. Would you mind posting the underlying ppt file so that I can download it without having to unzip it? I am giving a SD presentation on exit order and separation. Yeah to the post above. At this point a better number for you [original poster] would be "student fatalities per student jump," which I would guess would be even harder to figure out, since the total jumps figures kicked about are likely guesses, and any student jumps figure would be a bigger guess. In any event, any arithmetic you do that convinces you this is a safe activity is flawed. It is dangerous. We all do things to minimize the danger, but it is always there. There are not many tandem fatalities, but all of those people are dead now. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

This myth came into existence after a number of jumpers were injured jumping Novas that had been cut away during a bag lock. The manufacturer claimed that hitting the ground made those Novas susceptible to sudden collapse near the ground. Please note this is a joke. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

When I visited GT, the biggest impression I got was that there were very few cute girls there. If that is still true and you are a cute girl, you should have a very good time. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com -
It almost does not matter whether the price is good or whether we think the rig is good for you. I know you are excited, but there will be used gear available when you have more jumps and a better idea of what is important to you with regard to your equipment. Hang tight a while. Talk to people about their gear. Read the articles on this website, the bulk of which were written by manufacturers or dealers. Get to know your local rigger. Rent some different canopies. You have the rest of your life to buy gear. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

Canon only puts spot meters on their high end bodies. I think you have to get a 3 to get it with a film body. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

I know there are lots of techno listeners and even a few djs here, so I figured it couldn't hurt to ask - I heard a really cool techno song this weekend. I don't know of any way to describe it that differentiates it from other techno songs except that it contains an electronic voice that periodically says "I want to rock your body right now." Anyone care to guess? Thanks. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

Note that if you have EF-S lenses, no Canon film body will be compatible. EF-S mount lenses currently fit ONLY the 300D and 20D. The best bargains in the Canon line are a used Elan II (same controls as the 7 recommended above but better low light AF offset by older - read slower and less accurate - AF in general) and the EOS 5 (tons of professional features in a prosumer film camera, but the main dial has a repuation for breaking). For serious photography, you will really want Mirror Lock Up, which I do not believe it is possible to get with the Rebel line. Also, the bodies with a quick control dial on the back make it MUCH easier to use manual exposure modes than it is on my Rebel Ti. A Rebel T2 MAY have separate shutter speed and aperture controls, but I am not sure. KEH.com has used Elan 7's and II's for under $200. Sodium lights are tough. This is from Ken Rockwell's article on WB: >>Orange street lights are always going to look orange because they are orange. White Balance can make what looks white to us look white in photos, but it won't make orange white. More technically it's because these lights use sodium gas instead of dog poop and the sodium molecules create just one exact color (wavelength) of light at 589 nm which is that orange color. These low pressure sodium lights are deep golden orange and everything in them likewise looks a shade of that same color. They have no red, green or blue light to balance. High pressure sodium lights are the ones that look more whitish orange and things seen in them may have a teeny bit of color to them, but they still won't white balance.
