  1. Mine have been working since I started jumping, so 9+ years and counting. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  2. I don't tell that to people asking me questions about activities that are outside of what I consider to be a normal risk level, which I define as skill appropriate canopy size, and appropriate jump complexity. I prefer to tell them "don't fuck up..." because that is when their choice is going to bite them in the ass. I also like to say, while on the ground, "what ever happens I will be OK". This is a go to for new jumpers getting itchy on crappy gusty windy days. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  3. Trying to picture this, do you mean that it was threaded on the webbing the wrong way, or it was manufactured with the sliding friction bar upside down? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  4. Maybe you should rope your local TI into a clandestine night tandem... no wait... forget that. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  5. Meh! I have worked with awesome foreign instructors, and ones that were lacking. I have also know great US instructors, and ones that were lacking. I don't think you can generalize since every situation is going to have different actors with different motivations. Back to the OP, this must be taking jumps from you on a personal level to being so bugged about it. So what is the deal? Outside of a heart to heart with the boss man I fail to see how you can resolve this without burning bridges, being labeled as a saboteur, and causing fall out for all involved. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  6. I think you should practice what you preach. Get your decisions vetted at the local level, and help us lower the amount drivel on this website in the process. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  7. Are you fucking kidding me? You drag up a post from years ago, to make a bitch about spelling and grammar, from a jumper who died and left us years ago. You are a jackass, get fucking lost. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  8. Sunk cost, that money was spent long long ago. It would have been better placed in some investments, but can't rewind the clock. People would be interested in the gear bag at least. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  9. I will second the reverse s-fold. It allows you to put the bag around the canopy instead of stuffing the canopy in the bag. It also is helpful with slide placement, since that is the last fold you make, and the canopy is already bagged at that point. I can pack anything from a brand new tandem to a pocket rocket with that method with ease.
  10. The reserve is worth a can of PBR on a windy day, let bored jumpers get dragged around. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  11. And small highly loaded canopies are only higher risk if you let it be. We can put new jumpers on small Velo's, they only have to fly their openings, and not make low turns. It is only dangerous if you let it be. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  12. Meh, looks like a damn XXX movie that got a die hard movie pregnant. Just too over the top. Granted to original was unrealistic in terms of freefall delay, but it didn't drown you in never ending extreme situations. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  13. I don't think it has anything to do with how the tunnel is promoted. I think it has to do with the company of peers that we keep. A tunnel flyer with no jumps could be flying with world class skydivers, and be on par with their body flight. Transition that tunnel flyer to the sky and the people he will know from the get go have thousands of jumps, be on the higher end of the canopy and overall risk curve. Compare that to a new student of the street. He will know world class jumpers if they are his or her instructors, but that will be in the context off a student / instructor relationship. Do you think the student that didn't know the instructors and skygods from the tunnel will have the same experience and mindset of the tunnelrat convert? My hypothesis is that some of these converts view risks differently because of their relationship with existing skydivers, and how they interact. Similar things happen with student / instructor relationships when there is a romance or outside of skydiving relationship involved. We tend to overestimate our friends abilities, and underplay the risk for them. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  14. Really? I think our freedom to be self determining adults ends with boarding the plane with our gear in a safe configuration, ready to jump. Don't have your leg straps or chest strap on, don't get on the plane. I would have asked him to do the same. Buckle in, gear set, helmets fastened. If he wants to undo parts of his gear after he has exited the plane that is his problem. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  15. Plaintiffs' claims were denied. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

    Them feels....

No maybe it means the other instructors are busy doing tandems and AFF, and they don't have any to spare for the guy that decided to take up golf for the past "few" years. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  17. Dunno, but I need a second Sunday after a a summer weekend day of 15 tandems out of a 182! It hurts sooooo goood. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  18. Love my 140. Great canopy, flares just fine. I use it for FS and other jumps where I want a bigger canopy than my 104. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  19. I don't think you are going to find any direct evidence, here is my gut observations: Main ingredient dried sunflower oil, these vegetable oils have poor omega 3 to 6 ratios, and evidence is increasing that these products have the unintended result of cardiovascular inflammation. Main carbs in the form of maltodextrin, which is essentially processed corn product with a super high glecimic index. This stuff spikes your blood sugar, and is a cheap low quality carb with long shelf life. This is why you can store processed foods, and they are cheap. Protein is in the form of soy and rice protein, not great long term protein sources. I don't know why they wouldn't have used a better dairy based protein product like whey protein or casein. I congratulate the founders of this company, they are going to cash on big on this diet fad. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  20. N3 has bigger screen. In my experience the Viso has better reliability and better battery life. The customer service for L&B is amazing. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  21. The main ingredient according to their website is dried sunflower oil. I am guessing that the ratio of omega 3 to 6's in that drink is probably pretty horrible, and that it is inflammatory. If you are trying to save time and eat healthy without significant cost or meal prep what about smoothies with healthy greens, frozen fruit, chia seed meal for omega 3's and fiber, and some sort of a protein poweder. It sounds like you could get most of the way to your goal, with a much higher quality end result. I can't prove it, but my gut is that this stuff really can't be health for long term consumption where it makes up the majority of a diet. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  22. No, it wasn't directed at anyone in particular. The justification I am referring is present in all of these type of threads in a 1000 different flavors for why they aren't going to simply wait to get 200 jumps. Maybe it is because they are better than other jumpers, or the requirement is imperfect so they shouldn't be restricted by it, or it is the argument about how hard it is to get to 200 jumps, or a GoPro is different from a regular camera setup and should have different standards, and on and on. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  23. A "reasonable" mount? Do you mean the snag fests that most jumpers put on a non suitable helmet? That might be 200 dollars with a cheaper older model GoPro. A newer GoPro, plus a proper mount that isn't as huge of a snag hazard, and a helmet with a proper cutaway is not $200 dollars, but I digress. Honestly I don't really care what you do, you won't be doing it at my DZ, and you won't be doing it on my loads. But the justification and belly aching on these thread is fucking hilarious. At the end of the day jump numbers approximate relative experience, it gives us a baseline, and it isn't perfect. Maybe we should work instead with your standard of ability "to asses additional risked posed by a piece of equipment and to manage those risks"!!! Tell me again, how do we consistently apply that new standard? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  24. Point being? Motivation has nothing to do with fitness for jumping a camera of any format. Again, who gives a fuck? Just think, the money spent on a GoPro by a jumper in a rush, that seems to be taking foooooooorever to get their jumps up, could put that money towards tunnel time, or *gasp* skydives! Then they wouldn't need so much "self-debriefing". They just might be better skydivers, and have better jumps!!! Crazy!! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  25. This has turned into a moronic pissing contest. It doesn't really matter how little some people get a chance to jump in Japan, or the local single 182 tandem factory. It doesn't really matter if you are collecting cans for jumps, or daddy has shut off your trust fund tap. It doesn't matter if it takes you multiple years because you are off fighting ebola, or you are paying your way through medical school by dancing nights at the local strip club!!! Who fucking cares why some people take a long time to rack up jumps? It doesn't matter! On the whole if you aren't making jumps frequently you also aren't gaining experience quickly either! It sucks that it is going to take some people 3+ years to hit 200, or a C license? GOOD! If it takes them 3 years to hit 200 then they definitely weren't experienced enough at year 1 or 2. They can stick to taking landing photos if they have a photographers itch to scratch! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
