If that is the case that sucks, I jumped there a few years back it was a cool little place near where I grew up. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

What ever they want an arch is what will get it for them. The extreeeeeeeeemeeeely douchy 19-21 yo males that want to "flip and shit" or hook up mid free fall are told that if they arch I will flip, or if they arch they will go super fast. The somewhat freaked out student that is worried about flipping, or spinning, they get the more accurate response that we can have a nice exit, with no flipping, and that arching helps make the free fall nicer. The mountain dew crowd can be told that the nicest exit was a triple gainer. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Are they using batwings with the psychedelic couch pattern? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Really? You mean to tell us that the TI's planned landing which consisted of a deep input, quick 180, which left him completely blind to the student who was predictably fucking up like students often do was not the problem. Instead it was his failure to clear his airspace. Fuck me! 6 in one, half a dozen in the other. Show me the most perfect high visibility carving 180, and we can show you a conservative pattern with a 90 on to final that has more visibility, and way more margin to react to the student who is being a student. You can also take the conversation about high winds off the table. The video and the fact that student jumps were occurring show that winds were low, but Mr. Toggle Happy was still ripping his 180's. At the point that he got hit, no; outside of a brake turn or flare turn his fate was mostly sealed by then. That jumper could have done many things long before he got to that point that wouldn't have put himself in conflict with the tandem instructor that likes to execute dangerous blind hook turns in to the wind on low final. Assuming of course that the jumper had any idea that he was busting the landing direction prior to being struck. Ignorance is bliss. Everyone doesn't always make the right decisions every single time, that is what is demonstrated here. Combine that with pattern work that doesn't allow you to spot and respond to the guy busting the landing direction and you eventually get this. He very well could have been down wind. This opens a few points for observation: - We don't know the experience level of this jumper, or why he was landing at the same time as tandems - We don't know how the drop zone set the landing pattern on this given day, could have been first man down, land in to the wind, or no discussion at all. - We don't know the conditions on the ground. In my opinion light and variable winds cause the most atrocious events in the pattern. I don't think it matters unless you can guarantee that the tandems are landing last, and that they are all landing exactly the same way, there is always the potential that someone may bust the pattern, and pulling 180's like that is completely blind and very dangerous if there is opposing traffic. 100's of reasons why someone may end up opposed to the tandems landing pattern: -Long spot -Student with poor canopy control -Fun jumper with poor canopy control -Low reserve deployment -Wind change and a lousy drop zone policy on chasing the flag -Using the first man down and having some groups unable to see the first man. -Using the first man down and having the first man down be a douche swooper who does a down winder. The tandems don't want to do a down winder, but other jumpers follow first one down. I could go on, but the point really is that the 180 is like jamming on your brakes in rush hour traffic, or flooring it out of your driveway without looking because it is private and their shouldn't be anyone behind your car. It is fucking stupid! And even if it was the other guys fault, you chose to fly a pattern that left the risk completely unmitigated. Smart! Their packers must be flawless, and never ever pack a drogue that gives them a hard pull! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

The low man didn't fly underneath, he was below and behind. The 180 by the tandem instructor put the low man under the tandem pair's "final", if we really want to consider the portion of flight between hook and stab a "final". I won't argue about the 180, but I will point out that a pattern with an actual base leg, and a 90 degree turn to final would have had the lower man clearly visible, and given the tandem instructor the opportunity to avoid the collision. Burger King: This is how a "Tax Inversion" works
DougH replied to jgoose71's topic in Speakers Corner
What they did makes sense, and not simply because of the tax benefits. Tim Hortons is good at coffee, coffee is high margin, and BK is not good at coffee. If you want to see things like this stop, then reform the tax code. There aren't many companies that tax inversions work for, and if you know more about them you would also understand that they aren't just smoke and mirrors, naked inversions don't exist any more. You need to find a partner that has actual substance and synergy, and it needs to be large enough for the tax benefits to kick in. Disagree all you want, but as far as opening force the stows beyond the locking stows play no role. People didn't stop free stowing lines in their main packtrays because of hard openings, it was because of the sport death aspects of having a line hitch or get snagged on a part of the container. If I could eliminate that risk I would gladly show you that I could coil all of the line except to locking stows and have no difference in opening force. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

I personally don't care who sets the brakes, un-collapses the slider, and cocks the PC. That is part of the understanding that the packer and the jumper need to work out, no different from any other exchange of service and cash. That being said a packer is absolute fucktard if they pack the system in an un-airworthy condition. Canopies should not be packed and jumped with any of these things not done correctly, period. If your the packer and your pack jobs don't include those things then you should leave the pack job on the mat, or take it up with owner later. Being a past packer I think people should hold themselves to a higher standard and exercise due care, that includes making sure a rig only gets packed when it is properly set-up, and making a reasonable effort to keep an eye out for wear and tear risks like a worn closing loop. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

No they are not. The lines are being held neat and orderly (if put into the system that way) but there normally isn't any tension on any of the line except for the locking stows on a semi-stowless bag. I think line dump is like the boogie man, sounds scary but doesn't exist in practice. Bag strip is a different story, that can happen, but it has nothing to do with your stows down line of the locking stows. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Cool idea... but time will tell if it has a net favorable impact women's sexual safety. Sometimes things like this have unintended consequences. I am not making the claim that it will, but hypothetically this could cause people to let their guard down in other ways that increases their risk of sexual assault. Human behavior is hard to predict right? It will probably make the investors a good chunk of change if commercialized regardless of the actual impact of their product. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Good question. Not sure of the answer. Since you weren't bound by legality what would govern the choice to do such? I am glad it isn't, because while I think that I wouldn't except for maybe an individual that is known to have abused and tormented a loved one without consequence, I am sure others would be far less restrained. Every place is different, but I have found all DZ's to be as awesome as you want to make them. Introduce yourself to jumpers and organizers. Say hello and ask if you can join in on a conversation. Pull up a seat at the DZ bar. Smaller dropzone's tend to engage new individuals more from the get go, but that doesn't mean larger dropzones are unfriendly or unapproachable. And if you don't like your current scenery change your location! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Without a doubt! RPC material is stuck to it like fly paper! Bad ju-ju! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Mandatory AAD's 2 (was: Franklin County fatality)

I like the A2 350, but I leave it for other people if I can when it is turbulent. Never had a chance to jump an Icarus. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

The packers are safe, they are only talking about cup-of-noodles type Ramen. We all know the packers aren't going to splurge for that stuff! Way too spendy. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Hmmm that is funny, "make their own decisions on owning a (gun/dog) after considering all the risks". Almost interchangeable, and pretty simple. I considered the risks of owning a gun, and I do as a much as I could to mitigate that risk including bio-metric access control that can't be guessed at by creative kids with too much time, or a pissed off significant other. I will continue to be a responsible gun owner but I guess a story about me not getting shot after an argument involving laundry, or not blindly firing off shots in the dark, isn't as news worthy as heat packing granny worried about everything that goes bump in the hood. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

You could also ask to do a training tandem. You plan the jump with the instructor, discuss the winds and plan for the canopy portion of the jump, add a dive flow for the free fall portion. COA with the instructor, 3 PRCP, maybe turns, lock on and pull. Check the canopy, locate dz and other traffic, find holding area, follow the plan, practice flaring and turns, participate in the landing pattern and landing. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

I wasn't comparing packing granny to mistake making skydiver. It was a comparison between an asinine comment about gun owners potential to make mistakes, and an equally asinine comment about making mistakes during other activities that have the potential for harmful and dangerous outcomes. Stop doing dangerous shit by your own admission you are possible mistake making machine. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Better stop skydiving, operating your car and other pieces of heavy equipment and using power tools. I heard Staples is having a great sale on big rolls of bubble wrap. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Possibly paranoid grandmother, who can't follow basic gun safety. People that fail to use tools correctly cause accidents that injure themselves, others, and damage property. We could also post news articles about people cutting their fingers off on their table saw after they disabled all the guards, or driving recklessly resulting in horrible car accidents to bystanders. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Based on what they have said (could be some puffery) I think that range will be at least two miles outside of the city. I think I can turn the tracker mobile with a wifi hotspot, so I can move my homebase within the 2 mile cone the canopy should be based on the uppers and exit point.
