  1. What are the actual dates? I am going to be in Orlando the same time frame. My fiancee and I are doing the whuffo amusement park thing but im also going to try to get some jumps in. Maybe I will see you out there. :) "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  2. Hook knife on the leg of my jumpsuit I use most often, and a hook knife on my students harness. I am with Rob, I wouldn't go up without the knife in the student harness. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  3. That show is 100% scripted and fake as fuck! They aren't even re-enactments any more, if they ever were. They are totally made up fiction from the bottom up! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  4. Surprised they did that for student canopies. A few years back they found some of the older gelvanor fabric back at the SA factory. I talked to them about making some solo's and some A2's out of the remaining fabric. They declined, rightfully so, because they didn't want to have canopies used by tandems or students that were different from the original design, and were basically untested. I did get a really cool Mamba 104 made out of it though. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  5. So what are your qualifications, new profile, new jumper? Who do you want to jump with an why? I politely turn down most requests, but luckily at a small DZ I don't get many anyway. You aren't going to add much to the experience of your friend or family members first jump, but you could potentially add a bunch of extra risk. When I had 400 jumps or so I jumped with my Dad's tandem. I was current, did lots of RW, and had lots of tunnel time. I came in docked on dad's hand, hung out and flew off at the predetermined altitude. Everything went to plan, it was a successful skydive. On the ground he wanted to know where I was, he didn't see me on his jump. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  6. Sounds like a shady fucking operation. We do a tandem progression, some students get motion sick on tandems. I don't send them to an aviation doctor. I better tailor the canopy ride, try to getting them sitting more comfortable in the harness, and offer encouragement that it normally doesn't carry on to solo jumps. Why the hell is an instructor on a tandem with a aff student spiraling anyway? Stop fucking around like a jackass and teach the student some canopy flight! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  7. That sucks, Mike was a real nice guy when I visited there as a newer jumper a few years back. The location was great, and basically right in the backyard where I grew up. I was hoping to visit here and there while seeing the folks. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  8. Those red lanyards are asinine, I fail to see the point! That is the downside of single point belts, I know two really great heads up instructors that managed to get their way out of a U-206 with the belt still on. If the belt isn't all jammed up I try to always shorten single point belts so that there is as little slack as possible. I figure it will be harder to forget if I have a short leash, and I will flail around less if I actually put the seat-belt to use in a crash. 9. I remember reading something that similar bans resulted in people buying an equal amount of plastic bags, like trash can liners, and pet waste bags, now that they no longer had a free supply of bags from the supermarket. So basically not net benefit. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  10. Is it going to be the same form factor as the GP3 & 3+? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  11. Didn't he take over for one of the other main PC makers? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

    FYI to DZO's

I only jumped in to respond to the comment that the dropzone doesn't appear to be high risk for kiddy touchers, I think that is wrong. I am all for innocent until proven guilty, that being said I think a dzo or a parent at a drop zone would want to know that the a situation happened in the past for someone that got off on a technicality etc. Are there false accusations of this sort of behavior, sure, I am sure there a case of false statements being made in divorce, or against a co-habitating male or female, motivated by a jealous ex. But I don't see a likely scenario for a child to make a false accusation about a stranger exposing themselves to them in a public place. Innocent in the eyes of the law, or reform in the eyes of the law, doesn't make a violent rapist, or a child molester, any less of a risk to people around them. 13. Mine is going back for a failing image sensor. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

    FYI to DZO's

Tandem students sometimes bring children, fun jumpers sometimes bring children. Some are distracted enough by the jump and other stuff going on, tandems in particular, that they don't pay as much attention to their kids compared to normal. Normally this is just a pain in the ass for the drop zone, run a muck children and all, but I could see this being a huge risk if you had a predator like this guy lurking around. 15. The other markets in the world for safety headgear have the benefit of economies of scale. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  16. That read out on an alti-track is more useful for looking at on the ground. Are you actually flipping it around in the air? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  17. CPI in Ellington. More central. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  18. What is your point exactly? That the government funded military academy's that have lots of access to tunnel time, and their own Otter's, do well in collegiate competitions? No shit ! But still what is your point? University of Connecticut continues to have a very active skydiving club, that has the support of the university, school funded gear, and some help with coaching. The school has featured the club in promotional materials, it has been in the school paper, and has great exposure. Collegiates was a blast, I only wish I started jumping sooner while going to college, so I could have went to a few more of them while actually a student.
  19. If it was a simple task for the poster, then maybe he wouldn't have asked the question? Most people would have no problems disconnecting their reserve, putting it on a canopy card, and sending it off to the next buyer. Other people would take the opportunity to leave the next rigger a mess of lines, stick the toggle velcro to the lines a few times, and otherwise muck it up. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  20. I have a pilot 140 in my Icon I5. Not the ideal sizing, but the design of the closing loop anchor allows you to keep proper pin tension on pretty small sized canopies. I had down to a 117 non xb in there, that was getting a little squishy! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  21. In my opinion, while joint custody is preferable in many situations, the court system is filled with lazy ass judges and lazy ass lawyers that use it as a one size fits all solution that allows them to do the least amount of work possible. Of course judge, it makes sense for a woman who constantly violates court orders to the detriment of the child's education and overall well being to continue to have summer visitation rights. Good luck, sorry you and your child have to deal with this bullshit. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  22. Welcome to the sport. Since you are jumping at the Ranch I am guessing you are in the lower south east corner of the state. I am up here almost in RI. When you get that A license don't forget to check out the two awesome DZ's that CT has to offer. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  23. I think this thread has run its course. We are all Troll bait for Mr. Stayhigh, and from the sound of it his only involvement in tandems today is getting our goat on this forum. Either way, I don't give a shit if I am not the right stuff for Hawaii. I am a weekend warrior, if I hit 5000 tandems in my career I will be happy. I don't think the mark of a good tandem instructor is being a bad ass that can fly his tandems on all axis, who takes his students head down, sucks down a drogue deployment, doesn't want them to arch or be involved students, and who toggle whips his landings. Personally I think that describes a bad ass skydiver who is a shitty tandem instructor. And I don't think this describes most of our full time instructors, but I am sure that it rounds up a few full time instructors (and some hot shit weekend guys too) that are bored and can't grasp the fact that they chose to be full time instructors, and that means putting the student first. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  24. Wow, never heard of that. Judge Peter Power and Gerry Dyck, ironic naming for a case involving a skydive suing another jumper. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
