Head-down to belly - considerations?
DougH replied to davidg39's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have a special trap door for me enormous testicles. I just drop them out the suit and it slows me down in seconds. Plus then I have my hands free to crack open a Mt. Dew. Extreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeme! This is an advanced move, and you need huge balls, so I would defer to Remster's advice to get REAL ADVICE! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
By admission of the staff they realized he was using a camera to film jumps and he was told not to do so, repeatedly. They should have given him the boot, but the failure to strip search him on every jump to search for cameras isn't acceptance of his rule breaking. The sloppiest packer and shoddiest DZO wouldn't tie knots in broken suspension lines and then proceed to repack the canopy. If you are a cheap bastard you know it isn't cost effective; instead of downtime for a main you run the risk of losing your main, plus freebag, handles, and a reserve repack. Plenty of drop zones have rental rigs that meet safety standards, but aren't free fly friendly, and have some wear and tear within serviceable limits. That isn't gross negligence. Premature deployments have numerous causes. Make a case that the premature deployment was caused by the gear, instead of its improper use, and I will show you a bunch of rentals of the same gear with no issues because it was within the limits of acceptable wear. Don't look now, but you are confusing registered by date, with post date. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

The only prayer that should be answered is that you either smarten up or slowly fade from the sport. He wasn't a first jump student, he had been trained numerous times in the past about gear checks, and emergency procedures. Students ARE shown how to do a gear check from their very first jump if they are making a SL IAD or AFF jump. Their instructors also have the responsibility to do their own check of the students gear, because they are students. As a solo jumper, 1 jump or 1000 you have the ultimately responsibility to pull your own chute, and execute your own emergency procedures. If you can't do that you are effectively dead, and should consider yourself born again when an instructor or AAD comes in to save your ass. You also have the ultimate responsibility to ensure that you understand the life saving device you are wearing, how it works, and how to check it. It is in the ground school, it is part of all the subsequent training. If you want to delegate your own safety and life to someone else, that is your own choice, and a stupid one at that! This is a pretty asinine back and forth, Mr. Flores injuries were 100% the direct result of failure to follow established, taught, and trained emergency procedures. Any real jumper understands that is their ultimate responsibility, and this blame game you are playing paints a true picture of you. I am sure you would be running to a lawyer yourself, instead of accepting that you fucked up. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

USPA Raises Minimum Age to 18... Whatcha think?
DougH replied to NWFlyer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think it is fucking bullshit. This board apparently represents only DZO's and gear manufacturers. First they raised container opening altitude. Now they raise the first just age. These moves were totally for the benefit of gear makers and large dropzone owners. Our board shouldn't be in the business of improving the legal defense of gear makers. I don't think I elected anyone to the United States Parachute Makers Association. If I ran my own DZ I personally wouldn't want the legal liability of 16 year old static line students, but that is a business decision that should be mine to make. I have been a member of a club that is a not-for-profit. There is a long history at this club of fun jumpers kids, long term drop zone brats, starting to jump at age 16 and going on to become word class skydivers. The club didn't take joe shmoe's kid off the street. It was, and should continue to be our choice to have members kids start jumping at 16. The club's goal is to grow sport skydiving, and it was our choice to weigh the extra risks against fostering the clubs mission. I am not impressed with this board. I bet several years from now, after a lost phone, broken Neptune, or crashed computer many are going to wish they had a paper log book. I have all of my filled log books, I keep them in a safe place, I won't ever have them crash, I won't ever have to worry about not being able to read over all the cool stuff I did on my first jumps! Why would you want to change from an employer group policy to your own? I know there is tons if variability, and I am a poor frame of reference because my employer is world wide and has 25k employees in the US. That being said I have found because they are a group policy they have very minimal restrictions on both the health and life insurance side. No restriction for high risk activities. The only restriction on the life insurance side is that if you check non smoker and you die of a smoking related risk they won't pay the claim. Otherwise base jump and skydive to your hearts content! Geez Kid...what is it a snow day? How about ya just READ topics for a while & ask your questions later? MUCH later! I would trade this guy for "Concrete Rebound Hammer" any day of the week, including Sunday! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

how old where you when you went for your first jump.
DougH replied to brendhanbb's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
What is this romper room? We don't want to be fair to the OP. We want to OP to tow the line and stop posting 20 different topics in some stream of consciousness forum exercise. This kinder gentler dizzy.com is off its game. Stop feeding the guy reasonable responses until he can demonstrate the ability to use the forum at something higher than a 5th grade level! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
That isn't nice. You will be hearing from the local drogue chucker's union representative! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

That is a fine way of looking at our fine sport of "skydivng". I just wish they could fine a way to fine these new posters that clog up the website with a 1000 finely crafted posts within days of joining the website. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
how do you know when to pull the chute.

I suggest you pull when ants look like people instead. Or you could wait for the consensus on dizzy.com. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
how old where you when you went for your first jump.
DougH replied to brendhanbb's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Where??? At the drop zone. Are you asking how old the dropzone was where I jumped? Jesus Christ! Instead of posting 15 terrible posts an hour have you considered taking the time to craft a single one with some proper grammar. I can tell your presence is going to be a hoot for the next few weeks. Flying High? Exclusive Inside Story on Bieber's 'Pot' Plane
DougH replied to wayneflorida's topic in The Bonfire
Should have depressurized the cabin, and then performed several steep dives and hard pull outs to bounce the whole entourage off the ceiling a few hundred or so times. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
Verdict isn't out be anecdotal evidence is good enough for me. They add over a 1,000 different chemicals to regular cigarettes plus the combustion by products. I have no doubt that water vapor, flavoring and bases that are proven safe food additives, and nicotine are magnitudes better than a regular cigarette. I haven't picked up a smoke since I started vaping. If I had the choose the best possible solution for me it would be to introduce nothing to my body, but I know that isn't really the workable solution. I often find myself going back to cigarettes when my stress is high. Having this instead is the best alternative for me. Healthy no, I am pretty confident it is healthier. Just a matter of opinion. Everyone makes their money at someones expense, what is open to interpretation is whether it is deserved, right, fair, etc. You can question a banks profits, and its CEO's compensation. Someone else might question a public state university's funding and annual tuition amounts, and its presidents pay. CEO's are paid out of the same revenue that they are paid to manage and grow, and are at least somewhat accountable to the shareholders. Don't like it band together as shareholders, or dump the stock. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Stupid round, more marketing hype than ballistic science. I think they fudged the ballistic jell tests. I know that I don't want little projectiles to separate off my self defense round. That doesn't help incapacitate, that just increases the probability that person you shoot dies long after the fact, and it also increases the risk of hitting someone else with a through and through or a round that misses it mark. Sorry but I will take any 9mm 147g jacketed hollow point over that piece of shit 9mm round any day of the week! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

What would have been more interesting to report was why was someone with money eligible for Medicare? Just thinking out loud, is the means test more income driven than asset driven? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
