  1. The problem is that they take skill to pull off consistently. They work well, for well performed landings, with good conditions. If you misjudge and flare late, or flare to early and run out of steam, your legs will absorb much less of the impact if they are extended and out in front than they will if they are underneath you. Even a poor PLF has much less chance of you impacting straight down on your spine, but with your legs out and in front, it is almost guaranteed that you will impact straight down on your tail bone and spine, the only question is how hard. 2. Same here, my college club had a Solo, and my DZ has at least one or two in student containers. They opened very similar to pilots when I jumped them, and we never had a trend of students mentioning hard openings. If it is happening to you on a regular basis I would guess that something isn't right with your particular canopy/situation. Line trim, or maybe something else, like stuck riser covers? It doesn't fight into the Obama admin's war on gun rights... It is minority on minority... no light skinned Hispanic "white guy", no skittles. Many areas in our inner cities are 3rd world war zones. Innocent people getting gunned down simply because they don't have the financial means to get out of those areas. But hey, at least we stopped more non existent shootings with M1 Garrands from occurring. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  4. So I read this quickly, and came up with paypal evolution... and was wondering what edgy shit I was going to stumble on. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  5. Cool...! Here is another one that someone wrote about all you POPS and SOS members! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqXDm18QdMY "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

  7. Oh I get it...!!! Closing pins. At first I thought it was a silhouette from an illustrated gay kama sutra book. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  8. That funny, because many companies are saying they can't find enough skilled workers to fill their positions. Machinists and other tradesmen are in need, and these jobs don't take an expensive four year college degree. They do take strong math skills, and training which many employers are happy to provide, but not many takers. They pay a solid middle class wage, far better than any fast food job. But they aren't a auto union worker dream either, they require you to think, you aren't going to get paid 50 bucks an hour to bolt the same seat into a car over and over and over. You wan't me to learn calculus, and trigonometry, and you aren't going to give me 300k a year. Yeah ok, F that, I am just going to bitch about making shit at McD's instead. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  9. No kidding. We have a job to do, I have other things to focus on. And don't get me wrong, we like taking young small attractive women, but you also can have a great jump with a fat smelly older guy. I didn't get my rating to dry hump tandem students! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  10. But, but , but...he swore he wasn't a Troll..... Doesn't matter... I told them not to feed the Troll... but I think they are just feeding their own desire to see their shiz on the interwebz.... "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  11. More tandem questions huh? Between the sore butt and the lack free fall delay you should demand your money back... "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  12. Agreed, this will be moved soon. That plane got messed up!!! He must have ground looped the shit out of it during the emergency landing, bet that was a hell of a thing to experience, and then look down and find yourself mostly unharmed! Glad our walked away in good condition Mr. Booth! When I was packing tandems at a SIGMA dz I always got great amusement asking people if they saw my grandfather on the video waiver, haha. I would hate to tell that something happened to him in a plane crash. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  13. This is why I will never ever ever ever get married without a well vetted prenuptial agreement. I don't care if it is the woman of my dreams, and my asking her to sign one will cause me to lose her. A relationship is between two loving people. A marriage is a legal agreement between two business entities. You are insane if you jump in to business deals without agreements and understanding between the parties, why would you jump in to a marriage without one. Without a prenup the only one who wins is the lawyers. I just laugh and laugh when I hear stuff like "if we got a divorce we would settle things fairly". HAHAHAHA, sure wait for the bitterness and hurt to make hard decisions. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  14. I like quotes... "it is better to be thought of as an idiot... than to open your mouth (or dz.com forum reply function) and remove all doubt" Abraham Lincoln. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  15. I get almost a whole skydiving season out of a set of batteries in an original Optima. That is from April to November out here in the North East. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  16. It was a friendly shut the fuck up, I would only smile as I laughed in their faces. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  17. No it isn't really a bummer, more of a relief. Just because he might have skirted under the radar back then doesn't mean that would have been better. If he kept up his lack luster interest in the sport, 15 jumps in 5 years, he would have what 45 jumps at best? Let imagine it was 200, and he has a big swinging dick D license too! Don't get me wrong, I know a few long time jumpers that were slow and steady, that have been in the sport back when my parents were still wiping my ass. They are safe, they have some good knowledge because of being in the sport for 30 years, even if they weren't deeply immersed. I wouldn't take them on a 20 way, but I would do a smaller jump with them in a heart beat. I respect them, and their stories are cooler than mine! There are also some jumpers that have been in the sport for 20 years, the come out of the woodwork for their 3 or 5 jumps a year that are fucking scary. They weren't safe or good skydivers back when they started, they never committed enough to learn back then, and they aren't any better now. If he skirted under the radar in the Utopian skydiving 90's, an amassed a huge number of 200 jumps by now, and he would be on here bitching about the dropzone not letting him fly his Velo 90 that he got off the classifieds. Don't they KNOW that he has 20 year of canopy flight experince. Don't they KNOW he saw some other jumper with ratings screw up their landing, HE IS BETTER THAN THAT! It isn't his currency, it is his attitude. It was already said earlier above... the sport doesn't need more of his type. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  18. What a bunch of twats. They wouldn't have a fucking clue that I was standing next to them in line when I am carrying. It has no impact on them or their children, it isn't going to spring out of its pocket and start spraying lead. Pick up you soy fru fru latte... get back in your monster suv that you can barely drive... take your kids to their 10 sport practices that you use as substitute parenting, AND SHUT THE FUCK UP! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  19. We are still feeding the troll??? You guys are crazy! This guy is a hobby extraordinaire... he pays his entrance fee, now he wants his instant gratification. He isn't going to listen to you, but if you like typing for the sake of reading your own posts, then have at it! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  20. Terrible advice, myself and the rest of the tandem instructors don't want to be strapped to him either. "I want to do like 80 flips... can we pull really low... can we do that Travis Pastrana thing..." No thanks. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  21. I kinda got the idea that he was going to be taking a course that includes doing tandems as training jumps and thinks this is standardized stuff with videos that explain the goals of each jump (level) Possibly, maybe something is getting lost in translation. Either way there is such a thing as too much information. I would rather my TAFF students doing tandem progression jumps not come to me with their heads stuffed full of 100 dizzy.com posts, and several hours of tandem youtube videos. If we are talking about student progression jumps then each jump will be explained, and rehearsed with the instructor. Call me wrong, but I think you focus on your specific jumps objectives and skills better if you aren't already all filled up with preconceived notions because of stuff you self taught. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  22. Maybe you should work on your calligraphy. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  23. So many serious replies for this troll! Troll, you should switch to base jumping. You can crawl out from under your bridge, jump your extReeeeeeMeeee troll ass off. No rules and regulations, just eeeXXXXtttttReeeeeeMeeeeNess. PS, in case you haven't noticed, the rules don't apply to everyone, just the people that the DZ staff doesn't like. If you wanted to jump goPros at 12 jumps, skip the AFF currency rules, you should have had a bigger chest, and wore a tighter shirt. GOOD DAY SIR. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  24. I swoop them on radio assistance... it is never to early to trust your rears. "left turn left turn.... deep brakes deep brakes... let them up... surge surge surge... double fronts... roll your shoulder.... let them up.... rear risers.... hold it... hold it... FLARE!" It was mentioned already, but a low turn is almost almost more dangerous than landing down wind. The difference is that you can roll and tumble horizontally with much more impunity, than you can bounce off the ground vertically. And if you turn too low to recover that is what you will do, bounce your body against the ground. So you read the windsock wrong, your are hauling ass, now what? Well I can tell you two strategies that don't work. One is to bury a toggle to turn into the wind and smash yourself into tera firma. The other is to freak out and fixate on the ground that is whipping between your feat so much that you forget to flare. Flare, slide, or tumble and roll... and then plan better for next time! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  25. Every waiver has that section a little different. But it is necessary to protect the TI from being sued for actions that are necessary to conduct the jump, and are not at all sexual harassment. After opening I loosen and re-position the students chest strap. I tell you I am going to do it, I am careful to try to only make contact with the chest strap, but lets be realistic every once in a while you are going to brush a female students breasts. I would hate to be sued in such an instance, but I also hate to think that this clause is giving blanket immunity for an actual groper! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
