Attest... experience... objectiveness... What is this hogwash... much easier to just spew a never ending stream of bullshit! Who cares if you are full of shit if you can be witty... ummmmm nope not witty... entertaining.... ummmmm nope not entertaining... insightful... ummmmmmm nope not insightful... Nothing like slandering a manufacturer on the internet just to make another post. That is high class right there. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Can we put it to a vote? Trying to avoid feeding the trolls, but the constant useless posts in every single topical forum is bullshit, and borderline insufferable. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Jesse Jackson Jr. Sentenced to 30 months in prison

Only if you are a rich elitist with good lawyers. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
That whole landing area looked like a shit show, I thought I noticed a third jumper going a third direction, or at least a shadow that made it appear that way. You have that huge field, how hard is it for everyone to do a predetermined box pattern and land all in the same direction, plus or minus 5 degrees. I get that people screw up, guilty of it myself, but I get the impression that everyone just lands however the hell hey want. You are under your reserve.... Now what?

Ron, this is a great post! -
I don't have time to watch or read the link, but one of the ironies is the the US surveillance programs, also hurt the position of companies that are heavily invested in cloud computing. People have already expressed some concern that there is a disproportionate amount of the industry in the US. These NSA programs only add to the concern. I think they like the term progressive... which fits, since they progressively shit all over any rights or way of life that doesn't fit into their frame of mind. I don't like guns... why do you need them. I don't like big vehicles... why do you need a large SUV. I don't feel well compensated... why do you need such a large salary. and on and on and on... I think it is a somewhat ironic mindset for a skydiver to have, considering that we participate in an activity that is not necessary, is risky to both participants and to some extent bystanders, can leave the general public on the hook for medical bills, and has little justification other than it makes us and others feel good. Why do you need to skydive? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Does this apply for GoPro 2 as well? All of the TI's at my DZ except for the DZO, are short circus midgets, myself included. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Dave makes some excellent points, and I really wish that some of the things he said are part of every course directors material, and part of an annual refresher. We have total strangers handing their safety over to us, and most of their control. We harness them while they stand at attention. The have to give up their personal bubble to kneel in front of us, or sit on our laps for hook up. Once we leave the plane we are the only person with them, they are totally isolated with a person that they have known for sometimes only 15 minutes before. That deserves special respect and care! It is all about making the extra effort to interact with students in a manner that makes them more comfortable. I make an extra effort with women, and I try to pick my words more carefully. Instead of asking them to spread their legs when doing up their leg straps I ask them to move their feet apart. I tell guys that when I am tightening up the laterals that the belly band may get tight on their gut or belly, but I will loosen it up in a minute. For little Miss. Pear I tell her that the belly band is going to feel tight on her stomach, but I will loosen it in a minute. Small changes in language, but I think those little word switches can make things more comfortable for my passengers. Great reminder, thanks Dave! Droid bionic, which I think is on ICS. I noticed it this morning on almost every forum page except for when editing a post or replying. There may have been some other pages where it didn't appear, but I can't remember a specific pattern. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Not any longer, unless you get some old cans. They moved away from using flammable gasses like butane and LPG. RE: Flybear, I used "air" in quotation marks, because it isn't air. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Double negative, not unkindly seems to imply that he wasn't a dick about it, instead he just mentioned by the way, you should be aware that this may make your whole system bust the TSO. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

what kind of stuff can you do on AFF solo jumps?
DougH replied to chemist's topic in Safety and Training
Maybe besides qualifying your situation you should limit the amount of e-coaching and advice your so expertly delivering! People are giving him the RIGHT advice, and your telling them that they are off base! Haa! He should be talking at minimum to a coach, or better his instructors or a canopy coach, before he just goes up there and "pulls toggles and risers hard". You really think it is a great idea for a student to be trying dynamic stalls based on some internet advice? He hasn't be properly coached on stall recovery. Sure he could get away with it just fine, or he could recover improperly, spin up, and have a cutaway. You need a coach to remind a student about what happens if they aimlessly spiral under canopy. The whole reason he is a student is because he needs the coaching and instruction. It is for safety, but it is also for his learning. If you just go up there on hop and pops without objectives and drills, you learn a whole lot less. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -

Which is why I have decided to focus on telling them about the aircraft emergency procedures, hookup, exit, and free fall... I am using a less is more concept, because I can give me more later on in the jump. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

It is also giving me hell on my mobile browsers. Is there any chance the final implementation could include a provision to remove the toolbar in the user settings? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Level of information/education for Passengers
DougH replied to Backintothesky's topic in Tandem Skydiving
Even if your turning back to backs there is plenty of time to teach the student stuff! Canopy ride is awfully long. I teach them canopy flight, I tell them about all the different disciplines and things you can do with skydiving, about boogies, about training. What else are you going to do with all that time? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
How about demonstrate the position to them on the ground and then have them practice on the ground and up high under canopy prior to landing? I try to limit the discussion of the landing on the ground, and unless I have have an indication that they will have a physical problem getting their legs up, or they have a disability that will make instruction after opening impossible (had a few students who were deaf), I don't have them practice on the ground. I don't want to have them trying to remember two different body mechanics while they are in free fall when they only need to be arching. I do have them get on a creeper and arch, and practice body flight, so I don't think this is a case of me trying to limit the ground training. After opening there is plenty of time for me to discuss the landing and get them to practice. I would rather have a student that is still trying to arch after opening for the few minutes before I go into my canopy flight and landing discussion than the opposite, the student that tries to lift his legs through most of the freefall. That being said older, or out of shape, both have to practice lifting their legs up on the ground so I know what type of performance to expect, and so I can plan accordingly! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

This makes sense. In general I find most students, except for the most fit, end up in this 45* leg position by default, because they don't have great core fitness. On my younger fitter students I should probably mention that they should lift their legs up, but less than a leg lift. These individuals can sometimes lift their legs horizontal or more, and if they are sitting low in the harness their butt can possible hit before their legs, but I still focus on getting my legs on the ground first, and their butt and legs over mine. Either way I tell them not to reach for the ground. I need to think of what wording will be the easiest to properly convey the point that they need to get their knees up and feet out, but not straight out. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

That is funny... I don't have a worn out jumpsuit ass, or worn out tandem gear, and we slide out 90%+ of our landings. I don't ride the tandems ass, I surf my legs and my feet, the student sits back on ME as I lay back. I am using my landing gear that the good lord gave me, in combination with the good training my examiner gave me. The tandem is keeping their landing gear in the safest position possible. You must be right, the TI I described above looked way less shitty when he was surfing his tandem students face first into the grass, because he forced them to run out a landing and the student tripped and stumbled, instead of doing a nicely executed slide. Spinning Linetwist Recovery Techniques?
DougH replied to BrianSGermain's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
My three chops that weren't on tandems were all diving line twists. I grabbed the risers near the three rings and tried to even them out to stop the diving/spinning. It only took me one or two rotations to say screw it, I will find my gear later, chop & pop! I trust that my reserve is going to open, I don't want to dick around with line twists. Maybe I could have fixed them and avoided the reserve ride, but I had lots of time to focus on more important things by being quick to the chop. I have only had diving line twists maybe 5 or 6 times, and I have chopped 3 of those times. Am I being too quick to chop? Don't know don't think I should care, they have all had great outcomes with my current approach! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -

Any updates or new input on this camera? It depends on... the weather. the student. the gear. the instructor. the jump. the field. Most of my tandem landings are "on our butt" but we land on my feet first. My feet are out, but not up, so I slide on my feet and absorb any force, if there was any to begin with. On days that there isn't turbulence and sink my experience is that you can give tandems gentle sliding landings jump after jump. There isn't any impact with a nicely timed full flare. On other days depending on weather conditions you sometimes experience minor turbulence and sink, and you can have a landing that is a little harder. I personally think a sliding landing is safer in low wind conditions. We have a gentle sliding landing, versus trying to coordinate two sets of legs and running the risk of tripping and falling. In comparison I have witnessed a rather large TI, who was 6 foot plus 200 pounds plus who didn't like to slide out landings. He would yell at students to stand up and run. He mowed down a number of pretty little 100 pound nothing girls on stand up landings gone awry! Your instructor try the best that he or she can to give you the best landing possible.
