That wasn't my take on the discussion. My take away was that Jason pulled out because of the fingerprint and general mistreatment problem, this was also the overall reason for the initial calls to boycott. Then past employees of Jason's jumped up to fill the vacuum left by Jason's exit. Next you move on to their motive, and claims about their character. More than a few people are claiming that the new organizer acted rather poorly after the death of a fellow base jumper, including harassing his widowed wife. Not everything you read on the internet is true, but that sort of jives with the type of person that would use the issues over fingerprinting in to take over bridge day. Contractor tax situtaion from skydiving
DougH replied to kawisixer01's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Your DZO would be in the wrong if they aren't issuing you a 1099 because you spend enough to zero out your account. Money earned by an independent contractor gets reported on a 1099. Money taken off account for jumps etc are expenses of said contractor and are reported as business expenses on the independent contractors Schedule C or business entity filing if not operating as a sole proprietor. You could deduct the items that you mentioned. That is where a decent accountant with small business tax experience comes in to play. If you don't make enough income from jumping to offset the expenses you mentioned, in other words you think you are going to lower your overall AGI from skydiving expenses, then think again. In that case you have a hobby, not a business, and there are hobby loss rules. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
I only loosen them on opening, I don't like disconnecting them. When we land I unhook them and re-stow them on the back of the student harness. I want the student to be able to get only so far away from me in the even of a bad landing, specifically because of the scenario Rob shared. I put them back on the harness after landing because I have seen excited students get them swinging, and get hit in the face. It takes no more than 10 second versus just leaving them they way there are. It is nice to put a student in a harness, and not have to begin the process by re-stowing the laterals that the last guy couldn't have been bothered with, but that is just me. With 200 Jumps loading 1,46 (Sabre 2 135)
DougH replied to enta's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
"I want to go fast" You will go faster in the long run through a safer more conservative progression because you will learn more fundamentals and will have a better foundation to build off of. Let me draw an analogy, I take two kids, and I teach them to swim. One of them I put in swimming classes, the other I throw out of a helicopter over open water. Who do you think is going to progress into a better swimmer? When you are treading water, or in this case trying to make sure that your canopy isn't one step ahead of you because it is above your skill level, you will be in survival mode, not learning mode. You will be a better canopy in the long run by taking your time. You are also way less dangerous to other jumpers by taking your time. Do you want to go fast at the expense of others safety? No it is a stupid idea, and your instructors are stupid to go along with it. The stupidity is compounded by the fact that you are light, and at that loading you are flying smaller canopies with smaller line lengths. 1.4 with a fat guy on a 190 isn't the same as 1.4 on a 135, it doesn't scale, and you aren't on the less riskier side of the spectrum. You may breeze through and gain the experience before it bites you in the ass, but that doesn't confirm that it was a good idea. Or you may end up with metal hardware and a lengthy period of rehab. The real issue is that you can't always be conservative or careful. Landing off, getting cut in a pattern, having a bad day or a bad jump because you a human. It isn't the 99 landings where you get away with it, it is the one where it catches up with you because your flying a wing you aren't ready for. Good luck. I am two months non weight bearing now after my bimallear ankle fracture from a seemingly ok tandem landing. Caught it just right. At first I thought recovery was going to fly by, but it is taking its time. I will probably be back jumping and taking tandem next season, but right now I just would like to walk! That is amusing, I have a question too, do you normally make claims about someone intelligence based on a casual internet discussion! It shows your true character. Go chase some more ambulances, it appears that is how your whole crew rolls. ;) "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Again, what does any of that have to do with your DZO choosing to sue him. The contract is bullshit, your DZO isn't protecting trade secrets. A fired employee isn't going to leave with privledged information, or trade secrets, or run off with major customers. Short of employees opening up at the same airport there is no reasons for this clause. You fired him, he didn't hang around, and you sue him? Just because you can do something legally, and many of us think this was without merit, doesn't make it a lowlife move. This guy could have been the shitiest employee, this still makes your DZO look like a dick. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Dangling the strobe is sport death, but I have done it for many many jumps. I use this strobe http://www.paragear.com/skydiving/10000086/L1458/ I installed a length of poly cord on the strobe that has a loop on the end that allows me to hitch it on my chest strap. The cord is wrapped around the strobe and then secured to the strobe with several sigma tandem bands, and also to the chest strap with several rubber bands. It is a risk for sure, but I find it to be very secure with the multiple stow bands. It is secure enough that it is a work out to deploy after being open. I open, pull it free of the chest strap, roll the tandem stow bands off the cord, close my eyes, turn it on and drop it between my legs. On landing it just bounces below me. If it was to snag on object it would break the light weight cord. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

STOLEN GEAR: Aerodyne complete new rig 9/15/2015

Why wouldn't this be sent with signature required, and ID verification? I can't tell if they got screwed on a delivery being nabbed by a third party, or someone ordered up stock gear with a stolen credit card? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
Paging Christelsabine, Ibx, Mpohl (aka Germany WTF)
DougH replied to masterblaster72's topic in Speakers Corner
That is rather narrow viewed and selective. We no doubt left IRAQ a shit show, but the vacuum in Syria, aided by our inaction, and bullshit red lines, also played a huge roll in the creation of ISIL/ISIS. In other words, Hopey Changey also has some blame to shoulder. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
VOTE RAY LALLO For USPA Mountain Region Director

Not my region, but can you expand on this: "I supported exciting changes as well as standing traditions" "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
Thank you for the offer, but I already have similar sized Pilot 140. I am only really interested in a 170 if the price is right, so that I have a canopy on the upper end of my big containers range for specific circumstances. I do like that purple color though. The gelvanor colors were way better in my opinion. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

So did he win on the merits, or did he win on your failure to appear and respond to the matter? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Your friend should fork over all of his money, he is obviously too gullible to be responsible for it. The only way that shit could get more fake is if it was the Easter Bunny and St. Nick doing a two way into the net. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

You think? Does that imply your not totally sure? I have a bridge in NY for sale if your interested! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Never lost a contact in almost 2k jumps. About 1k of those are jumps as a tandem instructor without a helmet to help hold goggles on. Full faces, or the sorz style goggles almost entirely eliminate the chance of that. Still more likely to lose the glasses if you get bumped, or if they aren't on tight. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
-
I guess I should order some more of the sorz style goggles they were making. I liked that they came in their own case. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
-
Are you able to correct your vision with contacts? I started jumping with over the glasses goggles, and there may be better ones, but the ones I had were not very streamlined. I thought I would exercise my freedom of an A license by doing a jump sans helmet. Just me the goggles, and the air (and rig of course). That was an expensive jump when the goggles caught air and took off! In the end I found contacts to be a much better solution on jumping days. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
-
My non legal opinion is that the non compete is unenforceable, but you still have to spend the time and money to defend it so he doesn't get a judgement against you if your a no show. Fuck him, fight fire with fire. Call the state labor board, and other various parties, and inform them that this guy is misrepresenting employees as independent contractors. should I take a canopy control course?
DougH replied to keithbar's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Your friend is whacked! I learn something or identify a point for improvement every one I take. I take one every year, even if timing wise it only works out that I am retaking an intro class. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
