  1. A-don't feel bad hitting anyone up for anything related to your license, asking questions, gear. B-Thank us by saying "Thank you, I appreciate the help" and then going out and being a good example. You're at a school-oriented DZ and there are a lot of instructors there to help. They're there because they want to be, and they want to make a difference. and....your cartoons are thanks enough for most anyone.
  2. Here's a turn. Storm 150, 1:1.3 If you're still able to fly an X2 at the back half of a flight so efficiently that you're below student speeds/altitudes, that's incredibly impressive.
  3. [edited to fix bold] Look in the mirror... -SL Tribune archives; the story is there. You have the names. -Romney's books: (available in any bookstore). I bought/read them. Have you? Otherwise, your quote about what your daddy may have told you isn't at all relevant to what I wrote. -Romney's father's statements: Available on BYU's website, and available in George Romney's own bio. I'm sure they're elsewhere. -LDS Church doctrine: Readily available to anyone, any time, any where. -LDS Church prophecy of a Mormon president; was brought up during Romney's last campaign, his daddy's campaign, and Joseph Smith's 1844 campaign (history trivia, Joseph Smith was the first presidential candidate ever assassinated). Which part of the above can't you confirm?
  4. why does he have to provide all possible scenarios even for setups he doesn't jump? - he practiced the procedures, under the advice and mentorship of an experienced cameraman - for the set up personally owned - do you think he missed any other scenarios for that setup? You have a TON of experience - can you fill in the gaps for other setups? I think that's useful. Or do you have it on a website elsewhere. (I've followed a lot of your input on camera work when I put my setup together, I'm sincerely interested in your input. I'm not just busting on you busting on him) I don't know what the set up is that he has. It's great that there is someone mentoring. If you took my post as "busting him" then it was taken incorrectly. I'd like to spawn more discussion for the newbies reading this thread that haven't considered tethers, cutaways, or EP's. Honestly, the guy that is considering most of these cameras likely doesn't feel they need one. In several instances, myself or others have had to grab even experienced skydivers tethering their camera to their helmet, and pointing out the risks. I've been fortunate that for what ever reason, I've never had an entanglement that has caused me to need to use the cutaways that are on all three of my camera helmets, but the EP's for cutting them away are part of every jump. And THAT is the skydiver that scares me the most, the one that says "this will never happen to me because...."
  5. Part of the problem is that we're all convinced of our abilities that we mistakenly believe go beyond the abilities of others. The camera incidents thread is filled with people that feel the camera won't be a distraction or alter behavior. Even highly experienced skydivers have found themselves "out of rhythm" when adding a camera to their jumps. These additional tasks, coupled with not-yet-instinctive tasks, can create situations that at best, you'll get lucky, and at worst, someone else becomes involved. There are so many considerations... The two guys whose video I posted a couple days ago were just going out to have fun and take some pix of each other. Aside from the premature deployment, hurt back/neck, and destroyed canopy, the end result could have been much, much worse given proximity and other factors. We can train better to mitigate the risk, sure. However, there are some tasks best left to developed instinct before adding more responsibilities on the jump. One example, I can think of well over a dozen instances where merely turning on a small camera has resulted in helmet buckles, chest straps, seat belts, altimeter checks have been missed due to the very small distraction.
  6. Just because you were asked to list what you were trained to do shouldn't indicate that one doesn't understand the processes involved. three of your four involve a camera cutaway. most of these cameras don't have cutaway systems (indeed, some of them involve tethering the camera to the helmet) so what does one do then?
  7. As predicted/explained four years ago in this same forum, interlacing is here to stay, and when managed properly, is just fine for 95% of work.
  8. I too, would like to read these different EP's for various malfunction scenarios.
  9. it's worth it, IMO, and adds to resale value.

    Tailstrikes

I'd heard about this (assuming it's the same one) but was unable to verify with anyone from Sebastian. There are 3 additional unconfirmed tailstrikes not seen in this list. The way that we've been putting this together is that there are confirmed and rumored, and confirmations either come from face to face, phone, or email verification.
  11. That's about the only thing "straight" about Eli and Jarno (ponies not withstanding) Nice video, Elias!!
  12. Now that it's derailed to talking about reserves, you're probably right. Good video, yeah? It's also linked in the small camera incidents thread.
  13. http://vimeo.com/36065919 Two jumpers, 18 or 19 jumps each. Turned away from boarding at one DZ because they had GoPro's. They went to another DZ. They both rented rigs. Allegedly they were told the student rigs are not freefly friendly. One guy wants to get the shot of his buddy, so he backflies it. At least the main deployed at the correct altitude for a non-licensed jumper.
  14. Jeff is looking for non-wingsuit tailstrike info. I've shared the same doc with him that was shared with you. There was the one at Lodi, and a camera flyer down east (Deland?) that I'm aware of, I'm sure there are more that I'm unaware of.
  15. I think the news outlets are doing just fine without my personal experience or opinions. 10 years ago, Romney insisted on a UHP officer being fired because the officer wouldn't back down when Romney wanted to drive up a snow-covered canyon at the Olympics. The officer reported that Romney repeatedly used the word "fuck" as in "Do you know who the fuck I am?" When the story came out, Romney denied the use of the word, saying (paraphrased) "I've never used a word worse than H E double hockey sticks in my life." He maintained that position until Robert Flowers asked him at the officer's hearing "Would you like to hear the recording, sir?" Romney withdrew the charges. The story is out there, I'm too lazy to search it down for you. I expect it will re-surface as the election draws closer. No, I don't know him like a bowling buddy and don't claim to. My most recent personal interaction with him was 10 years ago. I wasn't alive when Mitt Romney was 12. Read Romney's bio. In it, his father speaks of "knowing Mitt was going to be president when Mitt was 12." Read his books, and Romney's story of how Bill Bain hired Romney. Then read the Vanity Fair quotes from Bill Bain. It's a very interesting read. Go from there to Romney's claim of how he "funded Staples" when in truth, he was opposed to the investment. "The most thorough analysis of Romney’s performance comes from a private solicitation for investment in Bain Capital’s funds written by the Wall Street firm Deutsche Bank. The company examined 68 major deals that had taken place on Romney’s watch. Of those, Bain had lost money or broken even on 33. " Honestly, I don't care that he's the person I believe him to be. I don't even care about his business acumen. I do believe Americans should be more concerned with his ecclesiastical background. I could not vote for him on this foundation alone. Take aside his four-faced persona, he either is a devout Mormon or he isn't. He claims to be. He makes all appearances to be. His family is very highly placed in LDS positions, and his cousin was the president of the LDS church. He was a church leader in his community, later at the stake, and eventually regional level. "Some of the leading men in Kirtland were much opposed to Joseph the Prophet, meddling with temporal affairs... In a public meeting of the Saints, I said, 'Ye Elders of Israel, ... will some of you draw the line of demarcation, between the spiritual and temporal in the Kingdom of God, so that I may understand it?' Not one of them could do it..." (Brigham Young) "I defy any man on earth to point out the path a Prophet of God should walk in, or point out his duty, and just how far he must go, in dictating temporal or spiritual things. Temporal and spiritual things are inseparably connected, and ever will be." (George Romney, quoting Brigham Young). If Romney is devout as he claims to be, shouldn't America be concerned about a man who takes his commands from God, and has sworn in the LDS Temple to always suborn himself to the commands of the Prophet of the LDS church? Are Republicans actually voting for Thomas S Monson (who probably would be a significantly better POTUS)? Romney will win the republican chick vote though. He's got better hair than any of the others. Having said all that, thank you for reminding me of why Speakers Corner is not a place for me. This election is one of those rare times that politics, religion, and personal experiences cross paths.
  16. SSD on boot only, really enjoying it (so far). Vegas 11 uses a different AVC decoder that is a little more optimized than the Main Concept kernel that everyone else (including Sony) have been using for years. The AVC performance alone is really worth it. Traditional drives for the render-to and backups. We back up weekly to twin eSATA drives that are stored in another building. One word of caution; as you're building your templates, use the legacy titler. The new one sucks donkey balls for how much mem it eats. The old one is perfect for what we do, it can be templated and animated the same as the new one, and it uses no additional resources. The new one is GPU-optimized and unless you have a crotch rocket video card...it just BLOWS (Yes, I've shared my feelings with the engineering team). Access the legacy titler by inserting Generated Media, then choosing the Legacy Title Tool from the options.
  17. Oh what horse shit. The only difference is the zero's after waht he made. If his father handed all of his money to him and he made not one penny or lost it - he's a loser. Romeny didn't do that and if you read just a little - just a bit - you could educate yourself to that level. Love or hate the guy he has been very successful but that didn't happen because of his father or grandfather. He was educated by successful men perhaps but many are and aren't successful. I just don't understand just making up shit to put someone down. READ his history. HATE his politcal positions if you want but re-writing history to fit what some notion of unfair advantage is bs. Not re-writing history at all. I actually have met the man on multiple occasions, and through family business have been loosely around him for most of my life. He inherited, used it as a platform, later donated, but already had the capital (and connections) to do other things. Regardless of his personal wealth, he is without scruples, and isn't at all the self-made man people think he is. He's been played in to his position quite well, starting at age 12. To suggest he didn't inherit $$, connections from his father (and grandfather) is far-fetched.
  18. I guess I need to see a Harry Potter movie to know what that might look like.
  19. That is a sweet (and fun) video. RC people. Too bad it's not really that easy.
  20. Or you can read the entire artical....and you don't have to worry about making this stuff up. Romney is spot on. The rich don't need help, the poor don't need more help. The middle class is getting killed. Besides he's just preparing to defend his success. Certainly he's a bad person because he was successful. Romney isn't successful; his daddy was, and his granddaddy even moreso. Mitt has been groomed from birth by his family and religion to be the President; it's part of his LDS Patriarchal promise. He's inherited and been handed to. If someone hands you a few million $$, is that personal success?
  21. PA2 works in both Vegas 11 and 10. Upgrade on Vegas 10 to 11 isn't very expensive, i don't think. VASST offers a turnkey system complete with templates, etc customized to each DZ. It is a shit-hot, super fast system ready to roll straight out of the box. Chris/Parachutist builds them, tech support is through Sony.
  22. Every week we hear on the news about Amazon, Sony, Microsoft, Zappos, Trion, US Government, etc being hacked into and credit card information compromised. FB doesn't store, doesn't have, and doesn't want that info. Therefore, they are less risky than using your credit card for online purchases. FB only has what you give them. BTW, it's false that you have to re-opt when they change security. They were nailed by Legal Frontier on this a while back. They maintain your most strict preferences when they make updates (at least they say they do, and mine have remained constant) Curiously enough, we have a professor of Social Media who is an expert on Facebook's privacies and social impacts who is a skydiver...Mz Montana...any input on this conversation?
