  1. The main reason there is any body depth at all is that there needs to be space between the lens and the sensor. That's one of the many reasons these cameras look terrible compared to "real cameras."
  2. I'm missing your point.
  3. This. I replaced my shitty mattress (Serta Perfect Sleeper Short) with a Tempurpedic knock-off). Took me almost a year to do so. I'm thrilled with the replacement. Also, don't go crazy buying little crap to make it more "campy" but rather, spend the $$ for real stuff that works at Target or similar. It's amazing what a cheap throwrug can do vs how useless the spring-loaded shelf rods that never hold anyway. Be careful about having a lot of stuff in it. A lightweight trailer becomes heavyweight really fast. Trailer roofs leak unless you over-coat them; get it done now, before the nasty summer sun hits it. Get some good jackstands and a wheel lock. That'll help the trailer rock less late into the night when the errr....."winds" are high.
  4. Elsinore also has events every second weekend, sometimes we'll set up for very long distance flights, but multipoint flocks are all the rage at the moment. Almost always a good assortment of wingies here.
  5. Elsinore has LA within 30 mins of the DZ, beach, and tons of shopping malls too. Plus mountains, vineyards/winery's, and Avalon Island. We're just going into our "great" season. not too hot, not cold, almost always great weather. Plus demo suits from every manufacturer out there (well, we're not up to date on Tony's stuff, but otherwise...)
  6. This looks like either the GoPro cropped, Sony TD or Panny 3D camera? Either way, it looks like you're using artificial widening or your lenses are too far apart. I tried to watch several of them and found myself crosseyed and with headache. This is not uncommon in low quality formats. Also, try tweaking colors more so the contrasts are greater. Punch up blue, bring down red/yellows Are you using Sony Vegas with the widener, or something else?
  7. None of these statements are true. The cost to produce a quality recording hasn't gone down very much at all. Musician's time is musician's time. I get paid the same per hour today as I was paid 10 years ago. The tools used to produce a piece have gone down, but not enough to matter much.
  8. Sure looks like the Drift POS. Expect to see a lot of new cams. In this case, one has to wonder if they're trying to capitalize on the RED Epic name. Expect to see more and more of these smaller cams. With GoPro now in Walmart and Target, there is a huge residual market in play.
  9. It happens a lot more often than one would think. It's got much more to do with muscle memory and experience than it does 'smarts.' As InfiniteSky mentioned, we have a system here that works well. We had a guy from the EU who is also a "Wingsuit Instructor" there; he got a new wingsuit shipped to him here in Elsinore. He'd refused gear checks all week. A newly minted WS, with maybe 20 WS jumps under his belt was too dumb to know that it's OK to refuse a gear check, he told the "Wingsuit Instructor" that it was the rules of the DZ (It's not) and so the experienced guy got one anyway. According to the pilot and a TI/E, the Wingsuit Instructor blanched white. It happens, perhaps more often than any of us realize. Glad this one was caught.

Oops, forgot to mention the cables. If the booties are leather, it's also a good idea to use leather conditioner on them. Some suits have wear where the bootie and fabric meet, and this is a good place to apply some shoe goo or similar to prolong the life of the fabric/leather seam. Might be a good time to be sure the soles of the bootie are in solid shape too. We had a WS trip on his heavy-duty sole when it caught the edge of the door. Tripping in the door is never a good thing, especially in a larger suit.

K guys...I've been in the plane with some of y'all's stinky-ass wingsuits that can almost fly themselves due to the organizms and crawley critters that inhabit that sweat-stained, ass-water soaked, fuelfume-infused fabric. Time to wash. Mesh laundry bag (preferably large net) costs 6.49 at Walmart. Use any color-fast stain remover as necessary. Put in cold water, gentle cycle wash. Some suits may benefit from a repeat. You might even add some febreeze to it if you don't mind smelling like a tropical mist. Use a long pole/broomstick through the arms and hang it up to dry. Once dry, it's a good idea to give it a shot of Scotchguard (red label can/fine fabrics). Give it a good dose on the butt, knees, and bottom of wings. While you're at it, buy some zipper lube (bathroom soap bar works about as well) and lubricate your zippers. This'll help you enter the next season or weekend with a suit that feels brand new, and if you Scotchguard it, it'll fly mo-bettah. While you're at it, look for loose threads, unraveled stitches or tabs. Either get em' sewn up or take a lighter to it to prevent further unraveling.
  13. Yes. I just finished authoring part of a book on small-format 3D, some of the footage included with the book is from both a single box/dual GP system, as well as a wider rail/ocular GP system. I've also jumped and ground produced with the Panasonic AG3DA1 on the other end of the spectrum. GP is a bit too wide, but also extremely distorted at the edges, making it less than optimal for virtually anything.
  14. there is zero difference editing/rendering a 2D vs 3D video from same-source or similar source acquisition.
  15. In a V4 and not a lot of experience in it, I don't think I'd want to recommend reaching back to pull the pin either way. Lots of potential for instability at that point.
  16. That's a little confusing to read since your screen name is also DSE. DSE is to Oz what BestBuy is to USA. Aussies know who to trust.
  17. I understand it'll slow down their speed, but in your earlier post I thought you meant it might create legal issues for the CDN. This bill is definitely a great way to start offshoring servers...might as well put em' in India, that way the server is in the same building as the call center.
  18. it's a big pdf, so I've uploaded as a Gdoc for you. 265MB in size on the CD. PM me with your email address so I can give you the link. it's the same manual as the FS, with only a variance in closing method (as Gordo mentioned). You're sure it didn't come inside the rig in the same bag as the serial #sheet, RPC, freebag, Dbag, risers?
  19. How do you think SOPA would have much of an Akamai, Digital River, Apple, Amazon, etc? ] Oops, I dropped a word... How do you think SOPA would have much of an effect on Akamai, Digital River, Apple, Amazon, etc? Their content is vetted.
  20. He chopped it. You can see the cutaway cables in his hand later in the vid. Smart to do so, because the Dbag fell out later and hit his leg, but would have otherwise potentially been a downplane.

  22. http://www.attablet.com/where-to-buy Best tab I've seen, great features. Not available in US, but you can get one at DSE back home.
  23. Funny how quickly this turned to being about Sony when they're not one of the major players. Sony parent company supports it, but that doesn't mean all their subsidiaries do. That aside.... SOPA works kinda like this. I find out that a site in or out of the USA is hosting illegal copies of my company's software, my music, or my training video content. I notify that host, and notify any use ISP's routing that host, that they are in violation of my copyright. "I DSE, owner of copyrighted works YYY & ZZZ hosted at 205.123.456.78 hereby demand you immediately cease and desist from hosting or transferring said content. You have 5 days to comply." I can also notify Paypal or whatever payment service they're using to seize any funds from that ISP. This is one strength of SOPA. Further, I can demand search engines to exclude those hosting sites from being seen on the search engine. This is another strength. They have no choice but to comply, if they're in the US or have US pipes. No..."Sony" can't take down the internet with this bill (nor can the primary sponsors MPAA, Viacom, RIAA, Nike, NBA, MacMillan Press, Virgin, etc. But they sure can make a lot of people unhappy. None of the above involves any court action. A properly worded letter, and that's about it. ISP's have 5 days to comply or agree in writing to bring their foreign agents to a US court of law. This process is already in place with YouTube and similar UCG sites, and it's how they skirt copyright issues. You complain, they remove or notify the "violator" and allow him to respond/argue. FWIW, I've successfully argued with YouTube when it was discovered BuenaVista had taken a song licensed from me, and registered it as their own. YouTube backed down very fast. SOPA would not protect YouTube and they would be forced to immediately respond to copyright challenges. It could get real expensive, real fast. And a lot of content would go down. We're going to see some variation of SOPA passed in the next couple of years; SOPA isn't the right answer, but it's the right intent, IMO.
  24. -Cables take longer to mate the suit to the rig. -Possible to mis-route cables (handles inside, wrong side of MLW) -Same as above, cables can look more sloppy/less cool. -Cables can catch on things on the ground and aircraft (I once caught a cable on a helmet hook at Pepperell, had to scratch cuz there wasn't time to re-rig, stupid me). -Cables can get lost. -Cables aren't cheap. -Cables poke you/poke your neighbor. -Cables are kinda ugly. +Cables are more "custom fit" to rigs, so more rig tolerance and no potential for shoulder zipper damage. +Cable tabs are cheaper to repair than a damaged zipper. +Cable suits are all but gone, so are available for less $$. -Shoulder zippers can be damaged, particularly if the chest strap is loose (we spend a quite a bit in zipper repair each year, but we have a lot of suits). -Shoulder zippers can blow out if the suit isn't properly stretched inside the harness. -Shoulder zippers are on all the new suits, so will cost more than a used cable suit. +Shoulder zippers are faster to mate suit/rig. +Difficult/near impossible to mis-rig a shoulder zip. +Zippers allow for a smoother airflow. +Zippers look cool. If you're jumping mostly WS, cables don't take THAT much longer, and they do fit a variety of rigs better. I use cabled suits for FFC's all the time. Cabled suits can be found relatively cheap. If you're doing back to backs and you want to get a suit on fast between tandems or video loads, the shoulder zips are probably highly desired. Bear in mind, I'm talking about zippers vs cables for rigging the suit, vs cutaway cables for safety release. I think suits without a cutaway cable are greater risk, as discussed ad nauseum in another thread. I'm a fan of zipper shoulders. Most people are, I think.
  25. Did I say I have a problem with 3D printing? Already been playing with it via a friends new 3D printer. What I said (apparently not clearly) was that the US has shot themselves in the foot by not dealing with copyright sooner." I'm not talking about the onesie/twosie shares of "dude, you gotta hear this" when someone sends someone else an MP3. I'm talking about the guys that get their rocks off uploading to PirateBay and downloading as much copyright protected content as their hard drives can manage. Berne, UCITA, DMCA, did not successfully address the problems. Apparently the EU feels the same, as they are looking to amend EUCD. When 3D printing becomes a commodity, piracy will have a significant impact on the sustainability of inventors, developers, and manufacturers. I believe, based on some of the language used in debate of SOPA, that the intent is forward-looking to better protect against physical-object piracy. Jack Valente was hated for saying that "If you don't protect what you own, you own nothing." You said Sony was complaining about VCR's being a tool for copyright infringement, that made no sense. Sony via SPD, Paramount, Columbia, and other properties now find themselves on the other side of the argument. Clint Eastwood predicted this situation in 1982 during a Congressional hearing. As far as America's #2 export.. One source These may not be accurate; I'm not an export expert. Some claim entertainment is US'#1 export. Digital media certainly is up there with iTunes, Amazon, Netflix, games, CD's, DVDs, books, and so much other media available outside the USA, offshore sales exceeding 150B (I believe this was in Variety mag) Another Another Another An article I wrote 10 years ago on this subject It's somewhat outdated, but still relevant to the arguments. There is no incentive to create something for which you will not be compensated. SOPA is a heavy-handed attempt to do protect those creations. Since 1710, this has been a hotly debated subject, even to the point where Shakespeare is thought to have changed how he/she published due to copyright concerns.
