Lol - that must be the reason, why all the video pro's I know, work with Apple, on the dropzone AND in real life (TV, movie etc) Best, Prada Maybe it`s just beacuse everybody (in the branch) uses them. You know - "the hype thing". Or "everybody uses it, so I should use it too" argument, like yours. I would rather suggest that the poster doesn't know many video pro's. They're just tools.

At nearly $4000.00 for suit and rig it's not horrible.

One more time (maybe?) You don't know what the DZO did or didn't do unless you were there. You don't know that you're getting the full story. And, it doesn't matter. Medical herb is legal in California. Having a med card won't keep you from getting sent home packing if you're staff at Skydive Elsinore (for example) when you test positive for herb. Why? Because it's DZ policy. As far as only two people being singled out, maybe they're a safety hazard, maybe they're jerks, or maybe more/none of the group were punished, or maybe... maybe a lot of things. It doesn't matter. It's not yours, not mine; it's someone else' DZ and he makes the rules. Since his rules are founded with a legal backbone, it's really none of our business.
-
Unless you have an inside track, none of us know what the DZO actually did, said, or has previously indicated. What are or aren't the properties of reefer don't matter; it's a DZO's policy, apparently, and with regard to controlled, illegal, or OTC substances, it's his responsibility to make sure his jumpers, packers, and riggers are within the confines of the law.

Giving proper information is also important. Apple software cannot, will not decode AVC nor AVCHD "natively." It is converted in the background, therefore it is not "native." Other applications outside of the Apple environment often cannot deal with these re-encodes. FCP, FCPX, iMovie also cannot edit multiple copies of videos simultaneously. AVCHD isn't just Sony, it's also Panasonic and Canon. Apple makes great systems, however, not always the best tool for the job. On that note, what "broadcast features" besides XML are you missing in FCPX?

The SoCal area is a good place to work on your license; three powerhouse DZ's within an hour of each other, lots of aircraft, near the beach, tunnel(s), generally good weather, lodging on-site (at two of them), Los Angeles not far away, lots to do in the area. Not to mention 5 major airports that you can access, so fares are usually reasonable. Perris and Elsinore are very close (you can see Elsinore from Perris vice-versa). Check em' both out and you can't go wrong at either one.

Would you agree that swooping is similar to putting on a camera or flying in a wingsuit; very few of the "instant gratification" culture follow that line of proper progression? I would not. If you have a problem with a camera or wingsuit, you still have time and altitude to save yourself. Not so with swooping. (This does not mean, however, that I'm in favor of banning swooping.) Kudos for the shift in context. Many people begin swooping long before it's appropriate for their experience and skill level, much like they do with GoPros and have done in the past regarding putting on a wingsuit. Did you also take my point to suggest I'm in favor of banning swooping? I'm not.

You can call RI and order now. I may be wrong, but the larger sizes are being scaled (I am waiting on a Curv myself).

Heat transfers can (and have been) be applied after construction. Of the two that I've seen, one had issues at the seams due to inflation stretch, but it still looked pretty good. Your local thermal transfer printer or silkscreen shop should be able to give you more info. As mentioned above, embroidery needs to have been done during construction of the suit. it's not at all a small task to tear apart/reconstruct a wing.

In case you haven't heard... Photoshop CS6 beta is available for download from Adobe Labs.>>> http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/photoshopcs6.html Some really fun tools in here, vector editing (think Illustrator in PS) is sweeter, and some other features like video editing (more like AE than Premiere). Check it out. 1.7GB download, so set aside the DL time if you're on a slower connection.

Maybe he doesn't need people analyzing the data, but it sure is fun to look at. Gary shared a jump from a few days ago. As someone else said, it's incredible he's gonna attempt this with just a few months in the wingsuit vs others who have claimed their intent. In my book, Stoney will always have the first, tho.

URGENT....Apache owners, discontinue use of new handles
DSE replied to Tony-tonysuits's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Since the video has been uploaded to YouTube three more times, I'm done playing tag with it. Apologies to Tony's crew; we tried to keep it quiet out of respect for him having the opportunity to address owners and potential buyers. http://vimeo.com/38615978 is where the original video may be seen, and downloaded. There are other "tests" that aren't seen on the video. -
I asked Gary to share the FlySight data on his FB page, but he seems pretty sure that he can fly it, hit it, and roll over on his back into it.

http://blog.abelcine.com/2012/04/03/sony-introduces-the-pmw-100/ Finally announced. 4:2:2 in a small format camera. Nice. Not a RED, but also a lot lighter, less expensive, and useful for other kinds of work on a budget.

I'll look into this. Time and time again I've heard this is a wise thing for a noob to do! Also, I've seen a few videos of landings gone wrong thanks to gusts, turbulence and other "surprises." That alone is incentive to learn more canopy skills. I realize nothing will make me bulletproof, but if it helps, I want to learn how to do it. . Were it up to me, it would be a requirement for anyone moving towards 50-100 jumps to attend at the least, a "level one" canopy course. Not just for their own safety, but for the safety of others. Duck could have a great time stressin' over the camera shooting the landings, hitting the X's, and dealing with flat, low turns.

I suppose my "A" is sort of like Schrodinger's cat. It's half there. Either I'm competent (at the beginner level), or I'm a danger to myself and other jumpers. Either way it's incentive to get better, but in the meantime maybe I should hold off jumping with other people, just in case... FWIW, the day that you landed "off" (you were still on the airport, just not in the designated landing areas), there were at least 10-15 off landings that day due to winds. A tandem landed at the motoX track too. I got a good chuckle out of the woman that landed in the dairy, her rig will smell like Holstein for a long time.... That's not excusing your "off landing" but it's important to keep perspective to what else happened that day. Uppers of 55mph were pretty intense... I'd urge you to sign up for the Canopy Course training. It'll help you deal with those "traffic/runway/winds" moments. Don't sweat the rest of it. I've observed your landings and around the DZ. You have a good attitude, and it's very clear from your actions that you're learning from as many people as possible. Besides, in your Duck series, you need a nemesis for your character to overcome, no? Keep on keepin on!

The comparison is apples and oranges. MUCH bigger suit with training and intentionality, and some impact experience. However, I'm not entirely convinced it can be accomplished this way. Power to Gary and his team!

New Sony CX series cams? What do you like? Why?
DSE replied to pope's topic in Photography and Video
Is this a tape-less camera? I use a side mount, and could 'somtimes' hear my PC-7 running over the aircraft noise. Now I have a CX, also side mounted, and I don't think it really makes any noise at all. With a FTP, it's got to be top-mounted, what exactly is he hearing? I'd have the same question. Either I'm entirely deaf (and nearly am in one ear now), or my CX 100's are silent (unless playing back or zooming) -
Can anything be learned from this video?
DSE replied to -ftp-'s topic in General Skydiving Discussions
A step-through is caused before packing begins, and it happens in one of two ways. The first is typical on a no-wind day, when your canopy lands on top of you. In order to keep the canopy 'straight' all of your lines have to come up and off of you the same way they fell on you, which is somtimes easier said than done. If the canopy fall on top you, and you 'step' out of any lines that are down by your feet, you just created a step-though. The other time is when you drop the rig in the hanger, if you set it down with the rig on top of the canopy, it's possible to pick it up the wrong way and pull the rig through one of the line groups. No 'stepping' involved, it's actually creating the problem in reverse, but it's the same thing. The lesson is to do a line check before every pack job, no exceptions. You need to run the lines up and make sure that the front and rear line groups, as well as the steering lines are clear from the riser to where they attach to the canopy. AS this video shows, even the neatest, cleanest pack job won't work if the canopy is not straight before you start packing. A step through can also occur when the bag is laid in the tray with too much open line and attention isn't paid to the lines. If any lines are allowed to cross over the bag in the tray, it can lead to a "step-through," even if attention was paid to lines in the field and line-checked at packing. -
what about a voice notification if the unit cannot acquire either at or shortly after exit?

URGENT....Apache owners, discontinue use of new handles
DSE replied to Tony-tonysuits's topic in Wing Suit Flying
The video was made for industry/manufacturer-eyes only, and out of respect for the manufacturer and their crew, it was not public. Someone copied the footage and put it on YouTube without my authorization. I asked YouTube to remove it because I still feel the manufacturer should be the one responding to the public. To be clear for those that didn't see it; while using the thumbloops, no amount of pull force resulted in a reserve activation on multiple tests. This result may vary somewhat from rig to rig. -
Wish it wasn't NAB weekend...a few more of us would be there.

A couple of folks have asked about sessions at NAB 2012; I do have a _couple_ supersession passes if you're _sure_ you'll be attending. Of the over 500 training sessions happening there, the Post Production World Conference sessions I'll be hosting are found at http://expo.nabshow.com/mynabshow2012/public/SpeakerDetails.aspx?ContactID=84235 Several skydiving camera operators are at the show with various vendors like Arri, RED, and others. The Sony extravaganza on Monday, April 16 features Donald Schultz, a BASE jumper and skydiver.
