  1. Well, Foamy is right about the idiotic terminology for ordering coffee...but at the end of the day, I still love Starschmucks if for no other reason than their Carmel Macchiatto. Waaaaay over-priced, but I love it. I'd had no idea this ghetto latte thing was happening. I've never noticed anyone doing any serious bartending of their own at the condiment bar - I'm sure it happens, I've just never seen it. It's certainley not going to hurt Starbuck's bottom line. Besides, I think Starbucks whole schtick (Sp?)of making a big fuss over coffee contributes to bringing this out in people. Some people fuss over the temperature, some over the foam, some over the fat content... and some over the price of the coffee, so they make their ghetto. They really shouldn't be all that surprised. I think the baristas getting all worked up over it is hilarious. I'll have to start watching for the "tacky people who are gaming the system" "...I've learned that while the "needs" in life are important (food, water, shelter), it's the "wants" in life (ice cream, chocolate, sex) that make it worth the effort." 2. Oh, absolutely! It is criminal neglect in most places. Someone would have a real hard time keeping their child from being handed over to DCFS (dept. of child/family services here in IL.) let alone the issue of a citation. I would have no problem calling the police for this one. You just can't do this. Good for you for speaking up, especially in a case like this. "...I've learned that while the "needs" in life are important (food, water, shelter), it's the "wants" in life (ice cream, chocolate, sex) that make it worth the effort." Kbordson
  3. Yeah...what she said! I am amazed what passes for talent and art. "...I've learned that while the "needs" in life are important (food, water, shelter), it's the "wants" in life (ice cream, chocolate, sex) that make it worth the effort." Kbordson
  4. Happy birthday! Hope your day rocks with lots of laughs and lots of jumps
  5. voted - hope he wins! "...I've learned that while the "needs" in life are important (food, water, shelter), it's the "wants" in life (ice cream, chocolate, sex) that make it worth the effort." Kbordson
  6. I loved it when she said that George W. Bush "was born on third base but acts like he hit a triple". She was a very entertaining and tough lady. "...I've learned that while the "needs" in life are important (food, water, shelter), it's the "wants" in life (ice cream, chocolate, sex) that make it worth the effort." Kbordson
  7. I love that! And I LOVE country and bluegrass - a local community college radio station had their bluegrass programming on last night - Alison Krauss and Ricky Skaggs were so good to hear! Weege, you are definitely not alone. "...I've learned that while the "needs" in life are important (food, water, shelter), it's the "wants" in life (ice cream, chocolate, sex) that make it worth the effort." Kbordson
  8. Too cute! I've gotten hooked on the show, but my cat hasn't. Of course, she's 17 and her interests have become limited to eating, sleeping, and occasionally chasing a laser dot around - that's it. "...I've learned that while the "needs" in life are important (food, water, shelter), it's the "wants" in life (ice cream, chocolate, sex) that make it worth the effort." Kbordson
  9. This IS a really cool site - like everybody else said, thanks for posting it. I like to see what the folks in other countries are talking/thinking about, but when I've tried to google my way there I get lost in the endless lists...this is a nice concise way. I wanted to see what the headlines in Sydney had to say about Steve Irwin - click - right there!
  10. Well, alright then. Santa is using the tape measure to measure his "pole" - isn't that what all you guys do?? Because when it's all said and done, despite the red suite and sleigh, he's still a guy and we all know how obsessed you guys are with the size of your south poles! Better??
  11. He's making toys silly - he can't make them ALL in November!. "...I've learned that while the "needs" in life are important (food, water, shelter), it's the "wants" in life (ice cream, chocolate, sex) that make it worth the effort." Kbordson
  12. Oh, I totally get that. I was never bothered by storms either until about a month ago when we had a 12 hour period of just wicked storm weather. It just pounded rain all evening, and the lightning was so constant it was like a strobe light going off. And the really unnerving part was that the lightning was so low to the ground - it was just at roof level, and stayed there. Verrrry scarry. It hit our apartment bldg. , hit the bldgs. across the street and down the block....and knocked out everything around us until the next morning. I don't need to take a Xanax or anything but I do find myself being a little apprehensive with the lightening now P.S. sorry to hear about the damage - hope insurance covered it "...I've learned that while the "needs" in life are important (food, water, shelter), it's the "wants" in life (ice cream, chocolate, sex) that make it worth the effort." 13. Awwww, thanks. I hope she does to. Spaz (my brother named her - I always feel I have to put that disclaimer in!) is in pretty good shape for an old gal. She's beautiful too - an all black short-hair, with gold eyes! And very well behaved I inheritied her from my brother when he moved back to Cali - he was afraid he couldn't find an apartment right away that would allow him to have a cat. So she's been with me for the last 12 years or so. "...I've learned that while the "needs" in life are important (food, water, shelter), it's the "wants" in life (ice cream, chocolate, sex) that make it worth the effort." Kbordson
  14. Oh yeah. My cat runs to the closet with the first clap of thunder - she's amazingly quick for a 17 year old cat. "...I've learned that while the "needs" in life are important (food, water, shelter), it's the "wants" in life (ice cream, chocolate, sex) that make it worth the effort." Kbordson
  15. That was very cute....I liked the one with cat at the dog cafe too! But OMG - what happened to that poor 'burger -n-fry' cat that made him so crazy I wonder?? Poor kitty. I still have to figure out the link thing...jeesh! "...I've learned that while the "needs" in life are important (food, water, shelter), it's the "wants" in life (ice cream, chocolate, sex) that make it worth the effort." Kbordson
  16. This is why I want the memorial stone next to my Father's grave. It might be appropriate to leave some ashes there. When a body is cremated there are a lot more ashes than one would expect. It's fairly easy to split it up - some here, some there. Oh, and before they cremated me, I would obviously want any organs that could be reused, probably not my liver , to be distributed to those in need. I like your plan - donate, stone somewhere, divide ashes...something to think about. "...I've learned that while the "needs" in life are important (food, water, shelter), it's the "wants" in life (ice cream, chocolate, sex) that make it worth the effort." Kbordson
  17. Boy, you are really feeling bad, aren't you??!! That must be some sore throat you've got - hope you are feelin' better soon!
  18. Carl, Carl, Carl, we aren't drinkin', druggin', and fornicating 7 days a week - only 6. We gotta have one day to recuperate! Just kidding...most of us get all the rush we need taking that one little step out of the plane door! Head out to the dropzone with Katee and see for yourself. April's right, a jump is a great birthday present - I'm sure your sister would pay! P.S. Happy Birthday! "...I've learned that while the "needs" in life are important (food, water, shelter), it's the "wants" in life (ice cream, chocolate, sex) that make it worth the effort." Kbordson
  19. The difference is that the Viet Nam photo, the beheadings, the results of bombings, and even of plane crashes, though ghastly, will all cause our society to think and then act according to what their conscience tells them is right - should we continue our participation in this war or not? Should I vote for that senator or this one? Do I want congress to enact a new law to prevent this from happening again? This reevaluation that a photo (or video) can bring has value to the world because it can create change for the better. Showing car crashes of bank robbers and drunks dying while evading the police does not create change for the better. O.J. Simpson's case, though it could be argued that it had at least a little redeeming value by highlighting domestic violence, appealed to those with a morbid fascination of other people's lives/deaths for entertainment. These types of shows/cases are aired and re-aired on T.V. by unscrupulous Hollywood producers who want to make money on someone else's death - it's not personal to them so who cares, right?? Irwin's death, though very tragic, will not cause someone to be voted out of office, or cause protest marches to ensue, change foreign policy, change environmental policy... will not really even educate the public about stingrays, etc., so airing his death video will not edify the public in any way. And by the way, his death will also not cause anyone with a brain to go out and start killing all the stingrays. "...I've learned that while the "needs" in life are important (food, water, shelter), it's the "wants" in life (ice cream, chocolate, sex) that make it worth the effort." Kbordson
  20. This was my thought exactly...there is nothing to be learned by seeing his death. The only thing that remains of curiosity for me is whether or not he knowingly swam too close. They haven't really made this distinction clear. It is possible that the ray was buried under the sand and he was swimming too close to the bottom of the ocean and suddenly startled it with tragic consequences. My guess, though, is that he knowingly swam too close, being complacent about the danger it possessed. Otherwise, his friends and collegues would have spoken up and said he didn't see it. Either way he encountered it, the lesson remains the same: do your best not to swim over top a ray. And you don't need to see the video for that - there is no additional educational enlightenment that would bring, just pain to his family in reminding them of the mistake he made and having to witness the last horrible, pain-filled seconds of his life. I'm very saddened by his death and hope his kids won't be subjected to a cyber freak-show for the rest of their lives. "...I've learned that while the "needs" in life are important (food, water, shelter), it's the "wants" in life (ice cream, chocolate, sex) that make it worth the effort." Kbordson
  21. Your pictures are cool! I never got photos like that when I went to camp Tippicanoe, in fact, I never got any photos (I have overcome this disappointment, as you no doubt can tell) Glad you had a good time! 22. [... gone to NYC/Phili/DC, spend a week with family in WI, then spent a long weekend in the Black Hills, hoping to go to TX to learn to really ride motorcycles and then possibly going out to CA for tunnel and jumping.... *** Well, it's just a damn shame that you don't know what to do with yourself! Glad you're having a good time! "...I've learned that while the "needs" in life are important (food, water, shelter), it's the "wants" in life (ice cream, chocolate, sex) that make it worth the effort." Kbordson
  23. This was very funny, but I'm thinking things are kinda slow in your office today! A lot of no-shows??laugh] Edited to add: It must have been a slow day yesterday - just noticed post date. "...I've learned that while the "needs" in life are important (food, water, shelter), it's the "wants" in life (ice cream, chocolate, sex) that make it worth the effort." Kbordson
  24. SuzQ and Chris, thanks for the updates...SO glad to hear he's improving.
