Any NEW dropzones out there?
SEREJumper replied to ZigZagMarquis's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Jet City Skydiving in NW Washington was open in 2010, recently lost there airfield, but will be open again summer 2011 at a new location. http://www.jetcityskydiving.com/ We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar -
It's an oldie, but a good story! http://www.parachutehistory.com/skydive/petebill.html We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar

You said this just yesterday, now you are thinking about changing your main size to fit your container better, even though you want to stick to a 170. Take councilman's advice seriously. You can pick up a used 143 for around $500. There are a lot of 126's on the market since a lot of people are starting to upsize to the optimum (yes, I did say upsize) since they would also like a bigger reserve (who wouldn't?). I think it is unanimous, we want you to be safe and not get hurt. I'm not sure what kind of comments you were looking for about this post when you said "I know I will probably catch some flack for having such a small reserve". I'm not going to pat you on the back and say "good job" for buying a reserve that I think is not appropriate for a novice jumper at your wingloading. PD and Brain Germain seem to concur as well. In the end, I don't know you, or your skillz. It's just an opinion, and we all know how they are. As I said, be safe. Edited to ad: To piggyback on Jerry's post, demo a 160/143 before the 126. If they are to fast for you, the 126 is for sure. We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar

Anybody from Chicago missing a custom Spectre 150?
SEREJumper replied to SEREJumper's topic in Gear and Rigging
AWESOME!!!! That made my day! The guy didn't sound like a scum bag, but he also didn't make an honest effort to find out who the owner was. He did say "his uncle gave it to him", although that sounds pretty fishy. He lives near SDC, so anyone with any situational awareness and integrity would have brought it by there to see if someone had lost it. He may have even gotten a small reward if he was upfront about it (I know I would give someone reward if they returned my canopy). So glad she is getting it back! Where is the data panel located on these? We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar

I got a hold of somebody at Spaceland and they are going pass along the info to her. I hope she gets her canopy back! We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar -

Red/White/Black PD Spectre 150 with custom "Ladybug" design on the bottom skin. Someone is trying to sell it cheap, I'm 99% positive it's a cutaway and they are just trying to get some money out of it. I'll let anyone know the contact info, if it will help the owner get it back. It's perfectly fine if they both have warts, but what if only one of them had a wart? I'm guessing the other jumper would get upset if they got a wart and didn't want it! Butler makes (to my knowledge) the only Quick Attachable Chest (QAC) Parachute on the market today (that is made specifically as a bailout rig). http://www.butlerparachutes.com/ - Click on "Butler Personnel Parachute Systems, LLC" - Click on "Emergency Quick Attachable Chest (QAC) Parachutes" We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar

I've found risers made by a master rigger that the confluence wraps were not sewn, just hot glued. On opening they would have more than likely failed or possibly failed at an altitude to low to deploy your reserve. Inspect your new stuff as well, don't assume it was done right. If it looks wrong, it probably is. We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar

Since I didn't see it in the picture, does your risers have a stowage pocket for the top part of your toggle? I know on early velcro risers it wasn't very common to have them. Wichard makes a lot of the hardware for the parachuting industry as well as a huge market of the marine/ boating industry. Here is a picture of the new harware on the sigmas. Talking to the Cookie rep, he said someone on Arizona Arsenal had taken the locking mechanism out of one of the sides for one handed operation. He has been jumping it for over a year and no issues so far. There are 3 phillips head screws on each side of the visor/locking plate that have to be removed to change the visor, he said it takes only a few minutes. Also the visors are going to be available with factory tinting and replacement visors will only cost $28. The OP is from Lithuania, so the FAA probably doesn't care that much (unless this jump was on US soil). We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar
