  1. $1 per pound over 220. The extra goes to the TM directly. I've heard others charge $1 over 185 lbs. It boils down to a business decision and if the customer doesn't like the policy, there are other DZ's for them to choose from (or not). Jumping 130lb passenger is not the same as jumping (landing) a 250lb passenger and I don't have a problem with the extra compensation for the TM. 2. I think the OP was specifically talking about off dz landings as the cause for the ban, not low pulls. We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar

  4. Emailed FrandE and got my replacements, took about a week. The new LED was really easy to install using a cypres 1 battery screwdriver. Works like new now. We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar
  5. If you are talking about establishing a military drop zone, then yes, there is a whole bunch of paperwork/ coordination (mil/FAA). If the DZ will be on a mil base, you can probably get it done, since the mil base/post may have it's own airspace designated. I've set up a DZ on base close to regional airport before, but it required a lot of work with the base and FAA to get any kinks worked out. Start by checking out FM 3-21.38 Patherfinder Operations (will need your AKO for this site) https://akocomm.us.army.mil/usapa/doctrine/DR_pubs/dr_aa/pdf/fm3_21x38.pdf or AFI 13-217, Dropzone and landing http://www.nsf.gov/about/contracting/rfqs/support_ant/docs/logistics/afi13-217_opt.pdf We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar

  8. They will only charge you for the 8 year check, I've done this a few times recently. It cost me $251.00 shipped to me + whatever shipping to them. We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar
  9. Plenty of FFer's out there jumping hackey's. I doubt there are that many cases where a hackey has been a problem. I do now recall there being a few incidences of a hackey causing a PC malfunction while wingsuiting, supposedly having to do with the heavier weight of the hackey vs. other methods. Maybe the old "tube" would be a good option. Do some searching in the forums for it. Also a longer bridal is recommended (but not required) for WS jumps. The standard seems to be 9ft. There are many threads on that as well. In the end, stow your PC properly, check it often, and make sure whatever your PC BOC stowing method is, it's in good repair will help you the most. 10. I would test jump a FF pud first if you can, see if you really like it. Some people get used to the hackey and then switch to the FF pud and end up going back to the hackey. Also, get some opinions on a FF pud vs. a hackey for wingsuiting, if that is your goal. I use a hackey and haven't tried a pud myself. 14. 800ft is for high performance aircraft. Low performance (90 knots or less) the military training recommendation is 1,500ft. (This is an interesting link to minimum deployment altitudes with rounds in the military for training and wartime) https://rdl.train.army.mil/soldierPortal/atia/adlsc/view/public/10629-1/FM/3-21.220/chap15.htm 3000ft is a little high in my opinion, you are exposing the jumper to possible extra altitude winds. 1500-2000ft sounds reasonable in my experience. Also, if he jumps with the WWII Airborne Demonstration team from OK, they don't utilize the traditional military direct bag static line. It has a pilot chute assist. Only a static line to pull in, no d-bag. I say go for it! 15. Diets don't work they are short term, you need a permanent lifestyle change. Commitment, proper nutrition/ training, lots of physical activity/ workouts = weight loss. I'm sure you've seen "BIGGEST LOSER", they do it every season. Not a slam at all, but you could use your goal of skydiving as a selling point to get on the show. If you are willing to drop some serious cash on a custom rig and skydiving training, take that money and use it to lose the weight. It will open up a ton more doors than just achieving a short term goal of jumping a few times. 16. Billvon's canopy checklist: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=792344;page=1;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25; Brian Germain's downsizing chart: http://www.bigairsportz.com/pdf/bas-sizingchart.pdf Read the post and think about it. Can you do all those items, in no wind/ windy conditions? Have you taken a professional canopy control course? At 63 jumps, most jumpers canopy skills are still very basic. You are slightly over 1:1 on the 230. What is it that you want to get out your canopy? More speed, swooping, get to the ground faster, hate to admit your on a 230? I made the mistake of buying a 170 loaded at 1:3 with about a 100 jumps, could I land it, yeah most of the time, but things happened very quickly and I really had no room for error on calm days. Windy days were pretty easy. I wish I would have stayed at 1:1 a lot longer, but I listened to guys that said "you'll be fine on a 170". Luckily, a military assignment forced me to upsize to a Navigator 220/ 130 jumps, then Spectre 230/ 350 jumps, then Spectre 210/ 800 jumps. I still have fun on my 210, you just have to know how to get everything out of it. I definitely feel more comfortable on my personal 170 because of the learning curve I gained on the downsizing (who would have guessed). My advice, stay with the 230, read billvon's post, read Brian Germain's book "The canopy and it's pilot", take a canopy control course, squeeze every inch of performance out of the 230, figure out what you want to get out of your canopy flight and why. Learn to backfly then your sit in a tunnel by a good coach. But then again, I would say get really good on your belly first. What are your goals in skydiving? I'm confident to say, I'm not going to downsize past a 170. Why? It does everything I want it to, for my goals in the sport. 18. If you were selling your Tri 190 in the classifieds and accidentally put $300 instead of $800, would you honor it if someone said they would buy it? It happens, Aerodyne makes good stuff, don't rule them out over a glitch. 19. I had a Square 1 gear bag do the same thing, I brought it back and they exchanged it for a new one. Good service. My thought was that the designation A3 had to do something with deploying/ mobility. There are five mobility bags -- the personal bag and the A, B, C and D bags. To be deployment-ready, Airmen should understand what each of these bags contains and have the proper bags prepared. All Airmen should have a personal mobility bag packed with the items they would need for 60 days. The personal bag contains the required uniforms, personal health and hygiene items, as well as many optional items which have proved helpful in deployed locations, such as raincoats, flashlights and skin-care lotions. The A bag is a general purpose bag which includes a Kevlar helmet, web belt, body armor, sleeping bag, canteen kit, mess kit and other support items. The B bag is a cold-weather bag which includes a parka, gloves, boots and socks. The C bag is a chemical-defense bag which includes chemical warfare protective suit, protective mask, mask filters, gloves, hoods, boots and detection papers. The D bag is an aircrew chemical-defense bag and includes specialized in-flight protective equipment, such as coveralls and mask, mask filters, blower, gloves, hoods, boots, detection papers and kits. 20. For what it's worth, I sent a 1995 Javelin back to Sunpath to have a cypres modification done. They had run out of their usual cypres channels, and instead hand tacked in a fabric channel with a sticky back. 22. +1 on the above, spot on. To answer your question, I wear two visual altimeters. A Alti-2 Galaxy and a Neptune on one wrist strap. I'm doing AFF 99% of the time and I've had a digital go out on me a few times. I obviously also use my good ole' eyeballs as well. I like the old saying "Two is one, and one is none". 23. +1 on above. I've used tube stows on my last 1200 jumps without a problem. I change them out about every 35-40 jumps or earlier if they show excessive wear. I really think that is the key, especially with tube stows. I use large tubes for locking stows, small tubes for line stows and thats for micro line.
