Name that harness/container #5...
SEREJumper replied to SEREJumper's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Ok, The rig was made by Para-Innovators and I believe it is a "Piglet I Conventional Parachute assembly". Page 211 in Poynters. No pictures, but that is the only "conventional" aka not tandem rig mentioned. Good info on the ripcord. The original owner never had a cut away with the rig and doesn't remember ever having to buy a new one. It was some time ago, so he could be mistaken. I know who the manufacturer is, but can't make out the specific model. Looking in Poynters though I'm pretty sure I have it narrowed down. I'll post the answer tonight though. Thanks for the info on L/F. I have no reason to believe that the ripcord isn't original to the harness. I guess Jump Shack made some ripcords for other manufactures. It's not a super swooper or jump shack product. We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar -

Ok, here's one for you. I'm sure this was a "small" rig for it's time. I'll give you some details that the pictures may not show well to help you out. - Rough dimensions of the container packed 10W x 18L x 5D. - R-2 capwells - Ripcord marked "L/F" (side note: what maker mark is that?)> It is also thicker and looks more like it was solid cast, not bent and welded. - Looks like a factory soft loop/ grommet mod, I didn't see any evidence of there being any previous cones. - Has interior velcro flap Have at it already! http://s41.photobucket.com/albums/e280/Gearpics/Minirig/ We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar -

Your reading or have been told very wrong. You will be there for three weeks, but only make 5 jumps the last week. I'll let you guess as to what you will be up to for the first two weeks Also, civilian skydiving is a far cry from military static line. Even a D license will not prepare you for a night, mass tactical (read, lots of dudes exiting at the same time), combat equipment jump, with a non-steerable ROUND canopy. The military can always find a way to take the fun out of anything, especially jumping It is still an interesting experience. Flat packing is the only authorized packing method for the parachutes our military unit jumps. Paraflite MC-4's, PD Military Tandem Mains, and PD Spectre and Navigators are all flat packed. I flat pack my personal rig's main (Spectre/ Pulse) out of habit and I don't have anything bad to say about the technique other than it takes up a little more floor space when you lay it out. kill-line pilot chutes for first jump students?
SEREJumper replied to riggerrob's topic in Gear and Rigging
I had a jumper with 300-400 jumps look at my dad's rig with a non-collapsible PC and ask "So how does it work then if it doesn't collapse". We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar -
Living as if they had only one day left /CNN article

Good article and press just posted on CNN about living life to the fullest, including going skydiving. http://www.cnn.com/2010/LIVING/wayoflife/04/06/bucket.list.buried.life/index.html?hpt=C2 We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar -
Not all instructors have them, though instructors can individually buy them from uspa if they want to. Like the poster above said, most probably just use the one available at the DZ. Jumping dogs has been around a lot longer than most might think. It is now just becoming more mainstream, since the military working dog (MWD) bring special skills that are needed in an ever changing wartime environment. If the dog handler isn't military freefall qualified, and most of them are not, they become the tandem passenger and the dog becomes more equipment. Here is a video that was done recently to show the capability of this technique. Skip forward to 2:57 if you get bored. The rig is a military Sigma, pretty much the same as a civilian Sigma, but is rated to a higher max weight (note the "beefy" 3 ring assembly). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUUTieMYSr4&feature=email We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar

Has anyone made or is using a non-factory cutaway system for their Cookie Composites helmet? If so, what did you use, how does it work, and could you post pics if you have them. Thanks! Skydive Simulator (mobile Vertical Wind Tunnel)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-e4Bd_pbfo&NR=1 WTF?!? I get that this is not a "serious" training tool, but that just looked dumb. So under powered they need a cable holding you up? Finally got back to this project and got it flying in the wind to take a better pictures. Still hoping to identify it. http://s41.photobucket.com/albums/e280/Gearpics/GNCanopy/ Yes, I've looked all over for a stamp of some sorts, including inside the cells like the para-plane had it marked. I would say that it is the heavier 1.5 oz fabric. Single fabric on the top and bottom. Lines are dacron type, not nylon. I would say yes, but not much to stabilize, they are basically only line attachment points. Upon further inspection, the A lines are made out of a thicker/ different type of line and are continuous (not cascading) down to the front risers. The B, C, D lines all cascade into each other and are thinner braided nylon. The cascades are all zigzag stitched. I would think that having a small opening on the tail of each cell to allow air to escape would be a good identifier, but I'm not sure how popular this technique was. Skydive Simulator (mobile Vertical Wind Tunnel)
SEREJumper replied to SEREJumper's topic in Wind Tunnels
So I saw this on Ebay and thought I would check out their videos. Not impressed. I get this isn't skyventure, but it looks way underpowered. I'm guessing this is just for the "extreme" factor of doing it once, but I didn't see anyone stay in the air for more than 5 seconds. I guess someone has actually used a wingsuit in the tunnel now... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sF01vJ9A6BQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLcWBdeV2hw We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar -
That was funny, I still remember that from 2001. They still use the *slap hand on thigh, then point* 250 ft tower! It is hit or miss if a class does it, usually because of wind, if it's not blowing the right direction, they aren't going to do it. Also, class sizes in 2001 were 300+ guys, so only about half the class got to do it. I was lucky and got to go on one of the last rides of the day, it was a lot scarier than actually jumping I thought. A class after mine, the winds changed suddenly and a jumper got caught on the tower. The black hats had to put on climbing gear to go retrieve him. I also thought the live malfunction demo where they rig malfunctions into the main canopy (streamer/ cigarette roll) and drop them from the tower, right before jump week was great. Lots of guys smiles changed (including mine) when we saw the "dummy" attached to the streamed main hit the ground. Good memories! The reserve has a different control line length than the main. Probably not a big deal if it was switched to a main without replacing them, but they are different. We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar

I bought two of these for the Cookie CX100 box and the fit was perfect. They are good quality, hold a charge, and the price was right. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/538834-REG/Pearstone_BPS_FH70_NP_FH70_Lithium_Ion_Battery_6_8V_.html We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar
