Pretty cool! Thanks for sharing. On a side note, if you have a normal fired cutter, DO NOT try to disassemble/cut/drill/dremel the thing open. There is still a lot of pressure built up inside and it will explode. I forgot how long you have to let it sit, but I want to say in was a number of months! One person has already learned the hard way... We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar

I'm 6'3" and jumped a C17 for a while, it worked, but once I put on a C20 (what I need), I would never go back. That being said, there is more to the harness size than just the main lift web/ yoke. Leg pad, lateral, chest all are important. Best thing to do is get the rig serial #, container size, and DOM. Email Sunpath and see if they can look in their records of who the harness was made for and then compare your measuremnts to what they give you. 1930 High altitude jump/ 26,000'
SEREJumper replied to SEREJumper's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Found this interesting photo on Ebay. Nothing else I can find on the internet about it. "All ready for parachute jump" "Bert White, Parachute Expert, who will attempt to set a new record for parachute jumping at an altitude of 26,000, is shown all dressed up in his equipment for the jump. His chute will be tripped automatically to prevent the possibility of a mishap through extreme cold or fainting in rarifed air. Strapped to him will be a barograph, oxygen equipment and three days supply of food and water. Inasmuch as it is possible to drift fifty or sixty miles, White believed he ought to have some food for an emergency landing in unkown territory". Pretty interesting! Gotta love the gun and knife also. We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar -
I've seen the same thing happen on a Javelin with metal ripcord and a shorter main lift web (16-17"). Everytime the jumper sat down, it would apply force above and below the ripcord and force the bottom completely out. I don't have a fix for you though, just that it has happened before. 26' Strong LOPO in a Pioneer Super-Pro?
SEREJumper replied to SEREJumper's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Thanks for the info on this. I wasn't aware of a 2-pin version. I should have clarified it was a curved 1-pin version I was inquiring about. We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar -
26' Strong LOPO in a Pioneer Super-Pro?
SEREJumper replied to SEREJumper's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
So Poynter's says it won't. It was made for pioneers 23' reserve. Says a 24' and 26' will not fit either. I've seen a 24' T-10R with PC fit and I saw a photo of a pioneer 26' canopy packed into one. So, those that have packed them, will a 26' LOPO (not Lopo Lite) fit? With or w/o PC. Thanks! Name that harness/container #6...
SEREJumper replied to SEREJumper's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Jerry, got the name mixed up a bit, Strong had too many Masters, Makers, Star, and Style combinations! Andrew, spot on. Strat, Pretty much! It's a Strong Starmaker Tandem Back Parachutes. Referenced in Poynter's Vol I, pg. 229. "A manually operated piggyback assembly which consisted basically mating (stacking) the Stylemaster assembly. This 1974 development was produced to answer the swing back to piggyback designs for relative work. Measured 12" x 23" x 9" thick and was available in a number of colors. Circa 1973." Night jump requirements for D?
SEREJumper replied to crotalus01's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I would say you are good to go, but I can't sign off a D license either. I'm guessing you went through an MFF course and those are some serious night jumps and real night landings. Cross connector straps on round mains?
SEREJumper replied to SEREJumper's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Pretty much all round reserves I have seen have them, but what about round mains back in the early days? I know the military has them on ejection seat rigs in the off chance a riser is released during egress, but did anyone use them on round mains? For those not in the know: STRAP, CROSS CONNECTOR—A length of webbing sewn across the lift webassembly or attached between suspension line connector links. It prevents streaming of a canopy in the event one riser was not properly attached to the harness.
