  1. Just found these pics while browsing the interwebs. Very interesting, I never who they made a QAS. We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar
  2. So could somebody tell me a little more history about these patches. Were they popular, or just a few wore them. Did you wear one or "A-D". Any pictures of different styles or any other info would be appreciated! 3. Jumper using a D6 has an interesting ride under main and reserve. More than likely would have been fine landing with the main though. Video description: "A step- through malfunction caused higher fall-rate compared to 20kg heavier jumper who exited before me. On the other hand, the Z-5 reserve parachute did not inflate properly, as there wasn't enough fall-rate :) The D-6 was packed for educational purposes - to demonstrate the shape of packed D-6, I managed to put it on accidentally :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nt1pszGVxhE We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar
  4. Great story Rich! You can be VERY proud of this: That's what it's all about, share/teach the sport and everyone walks away with a smile. Good on you! Now get back to coaching the young'ins! 5. If you bought it from chutingstar, I'm sure they will take care of you and set you up with the correct RSL/riser setup you need. You could have a master rigger do it, but depending on how much they charge, it might be cheaper to swap the risers with chutingstar (assuming they are new and haven't been jumped yet). Edited for spelling We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar
  6. This may be a no brainer for some, but for others they may not have thought about it. Just some ideas since I didn't find anything in a search. 1. Write down and keep in a safe place your serial numbers for each component that you own, do this BEFORE it gets lost/stolen. Don't forget altimeters and other items of value. If it doesn't have a serial number, like a helmet, grab an etcher/ sharp tool and make one on the inside. Stickers can always be removed from helmets. 2. Take pictures of everything and keep them in a safe place. Know the colors of your canopies. 3. As soon as you find out your stuff is stolen/missing, first file a police report in the location were it was lost/stolen, without serial numbers though, it will be near impossible for the police to search for the item in their systems. If stolen from your car, you may not want to move it since you could be disturbing possible evidence. 4. Get online and get the word out! Without serial numbers, some databases may not let you post your information. A few places to do this are: - Gear manufactures - DZ.com http://www.dropzone.com/stolen/ - USPA will list for free any serial numbered item in Parachutist magazine and its searchable online database http://www.uspa.org/NewsEvents/StolenGear/tabid/127/Default.aspx - Skydive KY http://www.skydiveky.com/store/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_ID=133 - Get on Facebook/ social media sites with skydiving groups and make a post with your info. - Call local dropzones or dropzones in the general area that the perp could try to sell your gear at. 5. Cruise Craigslist/Backpage/Ebay and other free listing sites to see if it pops up. I would recommend that you DO NOT post a "Hey my stuff was stolen" on these public sites because the perp might get scared and toss your gear in the trash to avoid getting caught. If you see the ad, contact the local authorities first (but I know what most people would do!). 6. If you do recover your stuff, make a list of all the places you called/ posted to about your stuff and ensure they know that it has been found. Here is another good article that USPA has published on the subject: http://parachutistonline.com/feature/dont-be-a-victim--protecting-yourself-from-gear-theft We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar
  7. Everyone, I have the rig in my possession and have been in contact with the rightful owner(s) whom it was stolen from. It will be returned to them asap
  8. Ok, thanks everyone for there input on this. I think I've done everything I can. Maybe this was just one of those good deals that sometimes come up I guess. We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar
  9. I'm not going to get into a physical altercation with the seller about the gear, in the end it's just nylon and hardware. I'm just trying my best to make sure that if it is stolen, that I can pass on the info to the owner. So far Mirage, DZ.com, and USPA have not had any gear reported stolen that this matches. I have not been able to locate the original owner Anne Davis. We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar
  10. So this rig was originally sold to an "Anne Davis" by dealer "FC SPA". Rig was made in Sept 2000, anybody know Anne? We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar
  11. It was listed on backpage, then taken down the same day, but the guy responded to my email and I called him. His story seems less than credible. I'm still waiting for a reply on the serial number, but haven't got one yet. I wouldn't post here if I wasn't 99% sure this rig was stolen. 12. Hey guys, get the word out fast, this is probably someones rig they are missing. I didn't see anything in the "stolen gear" section, but not every jumper is on DZ.com. Guy has no idea what this is and says his "brother" gave it to him. Looking to offload it cheap. I couldn't get any serial #'s from him though. It's a pretty distinctive tyedye pattern, right mudflap says STAFF. Looks to be a small rig, get in contact with me ASAP! 13. Charles, Here is an idea. Ask her what/ how she did it and what the entire process takes (if they are doing that repair, they are a master rigger, which is not entry level stuff). If your are just looking for more knowledge, there should be no problem. I would hope they would spare a few minutes to explain the repair procedure, especially since you paid for it. 14. If the jumper was in deep brakes and then buried the left toggle (even more), that would essentially be a brake turn. If the jumper was at full flight, then buried the toggle, then yes, he was just lucky that day. If you turn any size canopy low enough and aggressive, it will hurt. 15. Thanks for your hard work and making it free! I'll try it out soon! We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar
  16. Count me off the lift if it's his turn to spot :) Seriously though, it's a case by case basis, if you feel he is unsafe if the radio goes out (can't think for himself), then that would be a no go. 17. Sorry to hear about your bad landing and the hard, but best decision to give up the sport. It's not exactly the same, but have you ever looking into this? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powered_paragliding Please keep us updated on your recovery! Hang in there! 22. Looks like a custom suit that any manufacture could make if they have the pinstripe fabric. Couldn't be for certain, but it looked like a Kurupee symbol on the leg. http://www.kurupee.com/ We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar
  23. I've emailed GoCrazy in the past and always got great communication with them, but never ended up going with there suit (got a used one instead). Anyways, I'm sure every company has a suit that can slow you down. A larger jumper I know 6'5" 260lbs wears a Crater Suit from Body Sport. Slows him down very well. http://www.bodysportusa.com/crater.htm We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar

  25. No. I concur with what billvon and DSE have to say. I was in the same boat as you experience wise a few years ago, mil and civ jumps combined. Knowing what I know now, I was not ready for a camera back then. Military jumping is it's own skill set. Jumping a ruck and jumping a camera are totally different skills. I've seen guys with hundreds of equipment jumps that I would not want jumping a camera. My advice, get some coaching (no camera) during this jumping season by a competent camera flyer while you wait until the minimum recommended jump #'s. I will pretty much guarantee that you will agree with me that it was worth the wait. Lastly, enjoy the ride man! If you continue jumping long enough, you are going to start running out of "firsts". That's one of the best things about the sport and keeps you coming back, waiting until you are ready to do them makes them even sweeter.
