  1. Some serious bike riding(miles) and some not so serious riding in the woods(trails) for fun.Softball apr-sept. and any women I can corner?(lol)
  2. Winter is finally over!Been getting on the bike the last 2 weeks to get my running legs in shape for playing the out field.Hope the "NASA Misfits" have a better year than last year?Alright you fat girls get on your bikes and ride to your softball games!(lol)
  3. Ya'all make very good points! It's possible that a modified training program early on is the answer? There is still the day when you do everything right and still things go wrong. Some better judgment choices will always be part of the sport.Wing loading guidelines only work for the general masses.I will make sure to stay between 1.1 and 1.3 because I've seen what happens at 2.0+!I certainly don't wanna tell a D-license holder that he or she "Can't" jump the newest thing out there. We have to test the technology, but like what everybody is saying.Do it the smart way!
  4. What persists in my mind is the "Common Sense Rule".But,we all know that goes straight out the window with some people. We try and try to hold the eager 1's back, but if they want something they will figure out a way to get it.Wing loading mandates might be the solution? You also have to remember that that way somebody is always going to be "UNhappy".Unhappy is still better than "Dead or Busted up".rob.
  5. TY,nobody worries more about the pack jobs that I get paid for than me.Always cking my work when I have the time.Mostly,my regulars treat me very well and know that I'm doing the best I can for them every pack job. With DST coming next weekend it will be start of the silly season where I stress a little more and will be "Extremely" busy and tired at the end of the day.Sometimes I'm so tired,I just want to go home take a hot shower, eat and sleep. But,they know I'll be back the next day ready to work my ass off for them again.
  6. A grounding is usually for a damn good reason.Having been grounded only once in 30 yrs.,tells you that I must have really screwed up.Instructor told us 3-way,that if we popped through the cloud layer(at 2,000)we would be grounded.Sure enough we had trouble getting it together until just before 2,000.It was not a real good feeling being totally open and flying at 1,400 ft. AGL.We were grounded for the rest of the day and learned a very valuable lesson.
  7. We did the usual subjects.Spent alot of time making sure we understood better the winds aloft,Long spots,Pilot responsibilities and most of all "Exit Separation".It was a very good Safety Day.
  8. Oh it's normal.Sometimes it takes as long as it takes to get back into jumping again. Some of us have taken as much as a year off from the sport to recover from the loss of friends.Just do what ya gotta do to get it clear from your head. Some recover faster than others, some never recover.Good Luck, part of this sport is getting over the loss of others.
  9. Think your right bill. Was thinking like being 45 off on exit from high alt. tracking away from all groups.Would this work in an emergency situation? No time, get out and open any way clear of everybody else?rob
  10. Wow!I can't agree more.If it was up to me the guy would be grounded at the dz(with that rig)and notices sent out locally to be aware of the idiot!40 jumps jumping what?Yikes!
  11. Humm, interesting question.Seems to me that everyone after the 1st person out "Should" face 90 opposite off from the last person. That is if everyone has on windline opening.Any thoughts?
  12. Guess I have have to find someone near here who has sig. series 95 to test jump.Curious about how much better it flys at final swoop turn?Have fun with your new toy.It is the general skydiving public who still believes that if it is not PD it ain't shit.We of course "Know Better".Humm, wonder if brian would send me demo sig. series 95?
  13. Glad you posted this. What happens when the parachute comes out of the bag is so important to recognize right away.I know in my mind(others) that as soon as we see a spin starting, getting the cut-away handle seems like the first approach.(Some people I knew make sure they grab the handle at opening to get a jump on a spinning canopy.)Usually it is the simple things like loose leg straps or a toggle unstowed.Think the idea remains keep your gear in good working order.A friend of mine kept wondering why he kept opening with a toggle unstowed.Sure enough I stated right away that toggle elastic is worn.GET WITH YOUR RIGGER.I will refuse to pack a rig if a toggle set up is so bad that it could compromise my work.Good lesson.rob
  14. Test pilot training takes on a new challenge for reading the alt.For me I have to stick to keeping it simple.Once I reach 2,500 ft., I Start thinking about were I need to be at 1,000 ft. to enter my pattern.Sometimes I might start entering at 1,500 just to make sure I have a good handle on the conditions.Strictly ACC. basics.
  15. All it takes is 1 time. When it happened to me at 50 ft under 189 sg. ft. acc. canopy all I could do was assume the plf and hope!Valuable lesson learned.
  16. Dito,to jump out without a rig is just nuts! All in All,the engineering has to be right!Stuff does happen though. So,we will see what we will see.
  17. There are some conversations you just have to ignore.Bad mouthing comes with the territory.Sad huh?
  18. Did that already. It's not everything it's cracked up to be.Like my present situation as a private contract packer better.Being my own boss is great.Although TK Hayes was a pretty good boss at Z-hills when I was there.Give it go,you will learn something.rob.
  19. Suppose your right.Didn't think you were going to be "Critical"?Test out should be for us D License holders already jumping high performance ellipticals.
  20. Sounds like a blast! If I could get away,I would drive down just to watch this!Very Cool!
  21. I also like the test out idea. There is a significant difference between a 500 jumper with a cool thinking head vs 500 and possibly able/willing to take more chances. The DZO's and Instructors know who the possible dangerous people are.Maybe not so much to others but maybe themselves.I also think it is another great idea that "All the Instructors" at a DZ take a greater interest in what/who(just passed A license)might be planning for a new canopy?
  22. What he said.(flo yellow.flo orange)Also if you can deal with flo pink it is a good see me color also.
  23. New Chutes $10 a pack! It's hell telling a guy at a boogie to not bring his new parachute back to me because it slows me down!Oh Well, love to pack most everybody else except my own.Weird Huh?
