  1. I'm all for New Designs.Alas, unless your rich(or have very rich friends)your screwed. You Can design and build your own main parachute if you want.Be Aware!Alot of people who thought they knew what they were doing, spent alot time, money for a piece of crap they had to cut away every time they tested it!good luck.rob
  2. Humm, this is a toughie.Everything is the same up till you get the parachute in the bag. If,the air channel is cleanly "Exposed" as last line stow exits, you have a pretty good chance of a slammer. Some Parachutes that if you "Twist","Roll" the nose 2-3 times will snivel. But,you really need permission from an Instructor(other experienced)person before trying this.Too Long a snivel(also possible line twists)might not be your cup of tea just yet.Ask around.rob
  3. Thanks for the info.Been serious thinking about replacement of my reverse risers for standard risers with the harder cut-away housings for safety.Like they say $120 for a new set of risers is alot better than not being able to cut-away!rob
  4. The School I "Do Not" work for set the price. They pay $6 for all student canopies.I mostly do the sport rigs.$6 was an Idea for the larger parachutes because I spend more time on them than the smaller sport rigs.Everybody at our DZ agreed with me,so there ya go.rob
  5. Right! It should be the own jumpers responsibility to take care of this after each landing.Wish I had a dollar every time I have had to unstow already stowed brake lines to fix the problem.rob.
  6. I charge $5 dollars except for 190 sq. ft. and above.($6)Think I provide a pretty good service all and all.I also work hard with helping the pilot start the plane everytime. So,normally any day that I walk away with $100 plus is a good hard working day(20 pack jobs).Best I have ever done in a day was $230.Pretty sure I "Don't" want to work at a jump factory! That is just the way I feel. You might feel different.rob
  7. This "Should" never happen. If the line was damaged in bar tacking,it is standard procedure to replace that section of line!period. It is also possible that when cutting the bumpers proper care might not have been taken to do it correctly. This is why parachute manufacturers have "So Many" Inspections. But even then,we are human. This should have been caught in final inspection! If in fact a mistake was made in production?Other possibilities exist where this could have happen in testing also. So,Nobody is out to burn anyone ok?I don't even understand burning a brake line.Yikes!!!!!!!
  8. You got it!It is a shame some of our fellow jumpers don't have the common sense to to just fly the pattern. With my exit and opening altitude high 5,000-8,000 AGL.I have no problem taking care of all my fun turns, dives up high.I usually start setting myself up to enter the landing pattern at 2,500 ft.The best thing about the way I do it is I "Make Sure" no one is there when I am preparing to land.I'm old and don't need/want any surprises when I do finally enter my landing pattern at 1,000 ft. AGL.Let's use that thing between out ears(brains)and look out for ourselves and others.rob
  9. I borrowed my friends 80 something and loved it.It helps that it is so easy to pack!Of course I don't even come close to loading it like he does.At first I didn't think I would like the canopy. The 3 jumps I made on that little sucker changed my mind completely!rob
  10. Good poll!Hope it is as honest as it seems? It is not so much the turns you are doing as is the progression to doing them.rob
  11. The only ass I'm gonna kiss is my GF'S!Or any other shapely lady who likes butt smoches!(lol)rob.
  12. I agree 100%.It is to the point I think that if they can't show an up to date signed log book they are probably the accident ready to happen!Way back when(1996-1997)I got beat-up pretty bad for losing a sale.Screw em!This guy asked my honest advice AND I GAVE IT TO HIM.If he went elsewhere OH WELL!HE WAS NOT GOING TO DIE ON A PARACHUTE I BUILT FOR HIM!These are complicated issues for sure. The time between 100 and 500 jumps "Should" be a time to learn the proper canopy flying methods."Not" get the hottest thing out there and take your chances.rob
  13. I like the way you guys think!Being a good canopy pilot should "Not" take rules.O.K.SAVING LIVES IS A GOOD THING,RIGHT?I think we need to just take some of "Recklessness Factor" out of canopy flying. For us old guys, that means still ask questions.Find out all you can about the subject.Teach what you have learned and hope somebody listens.Have Fun and always land Safe.rob
  14. Well stated! The object of course is to get everybody reading from the same page(list or not?)First,(tried this already with little success)Get all teaching Canopy courses to come up with "universal program".Clear it through "All the proper People and channels"!Get it approved and into action.9 years is a long time to wait for nothing yet.Let's go people!rob
  15. I have to ask myself simple questions. How comfortable to do feel with my level of canopy flight?I don't do hook turns anymore!(let everybody else if they want to "At their own risk")Personally,I have 100 jumps on my elliptical right now and "Don't feel totally Comfortable in all situations"Will not do demo's,night jump just recently didn't feel right or safe to me and landing off flield is an experience I would rather "Not Ever Have"(If I have a choice?)!How many still know how to do a PLF.Ever had to do one with a square canopy? Can you spot correctly from any skydiving altitude?Know where you should be "Away from others" in freefall and under canopy. These are just some of the questions I know not everybody can answer.Anymore suggestions? We will get there someday?rob
  16. Sounds like you have a solid start on the solution. Not only a class system will be needed but a way to progress with or with out attending a canopy control class.(seminar)A reasonably good canopy pilot should know how his/her canopy flys in about 25 jumps. This includes almost all conditions, also when to sit a jump out because it does not feel safe. Some pilots A-C license holders will need less or more jumps to feel safe.A simple test can be taken to advance to the next level.Anymore Ideas?rob
  17. Humm, interesting idea!To attempt this could be trouble. They will just go somewhere else to be stupid! All dropzones would have to agree to test there own solutions.Maybe at the next DZ conference?A BSR IS JUST 1 POSSIBLE SOLUTION.What else could we try?Let's put our thinking caps on folks.(lol)
  18. Alot are not with us anymore or don't jump any more.I could spend all day listing them.I have been to most of the DZ'S around the country.Have met some extremely smart people.Have listened to what they had to say.Sometimes even get to put my 2 cents in.(lol)It is better to listen!Have fun, land safe.
  19. Brain and I have had some great discussions about this.Personally I don't need the shit hottest parachute on the market to go fast.People are gonna do what they want anyway!I if I lend you my Test Parachute and tell you that "You Better Not Hook-Turn it"Don't hook turn!If you do and die I'm gonna come get my rig off your dead ass and piss on you!rabbit(Beef Curtain)
  20. What he said. When there was static line training that is what we had and what we did.Now the training is lacking behind the equipment. It's common knowledge. How to fix is the real problem.Personally I like what Scott Miller,Brian Germain and Jim Slaton are doing.I'm all for it!Should we take money out of their pockets and require USPA to create a universal level of training for all A,B,C and D license holders? The work involved is staggering and time consuming.
