It's kind of like so many in the "Theory of Evolution is indisputable" camp, who are quick to label anyone who questions their theory as a creationist nut job. It's about defending your beliefs. The thing is, there haven't been many real challenges to evolutionary theory apart from the "Creationist nut job" camp. And they without exception do it so badly that they basically give themselves the "Nut job" label. Its not about defending your beliefs at all, its about applying scientific rigor to any given theory. If there are inconsistencies in evolutionary theory or areas where we do not quite understand something, that means they are areas for study and further research. "If we do not understand it completely then it must be my imaginary friend that made all this" is NOT a valid answer. Thanks for illustrating my point.

I guess the same could be said of the people who rant about all our civil rights being taken away and who claim we're unbearable close to becoming a Fascist police state. -

Nope. That's mankind's purpose for religion. Christians, on the other hand, know that they wouldn't stand a snowball's chance in hell of making it into heaven without the finished work of Christ. Oh. When you wrote "I", I thought just maybe you meant "I" and not "all of mankind". Silly of me. Christians, of course, don't "know", they have faith (belief without any proof). There are those who try to understand what someone is trying to say and form their responses based on that understanding. Then there are those who tend to look for minor pedantic inconsistencies to exploit against the speaker.

That's why MINORS are considered to have improperly developed judgment and sense of responsibilty. ADULTS are supposed to protect them from their unwise actions. Unless they are having sex with a Democrat in Congress. Did I claim that? Stick to the point. Okay. How about this? Using the "lack of developed judgement and sense of responsibility" is a fine illustration of the culture of victimology. I call bullshit on any claim that the officier should have known the young man lacked the maturity to understand that trying to escape is a bad idea. I wonder how many thug juveline deliquents have convinced judges that they should be aquitted because they lacked the maturity to understand that their actions were wrong. Crack me up.

I notice we aren't hearing a bunch of stories about voter fraud this time around. I guess the Democrats interest in this is determined by the outcome of election day. -
At least you actually addressed my points. Good for you.

Absolutely true How many US soldiers have died in the War on Drugs over the last 3 years? Pulling our troops out of Iraq would improve our national security - Like when we pulled our troops out of Mogadishu? -
Hey, no worries. I'm just glad that you're interested in learning some truths that are actually backed by evidence. Good luck with the research, and let me know if you'd like a suggested reading list. What would we do without someone so wise and wonderful to show us the error of our ways.

Looking at the top ten, only two have a Summer longer than a few weeks. And most of the bttom third are sun belt states. Hmmm.

This whole Iraq situation is like the guy who goes to Vegas, confident because he just read book he got online on card counting. Forty-eight hours later, he's lost all his cash and he owes the house every bit of equity in his house. And the dealer asks "what do you want to do?"

Which of the ten amendments has NOT (yet) been under attack from this administration? The 3rd, maybe. Skirting around the BoR and coming up with ingenious stratagems for avoiding its requirements is hardly the hallmark of an administration with any respect for th Constitution. Which Amendments of the Bill of Rights have been destroyed by Bush and Co.? How so? -

To sum it up... We've had occassional abuses of the Patriot Act and the NSA has some serious explaning to do about bypassing FISA requirements. Most of the other stuff we hear about "taking away our civil rights" and destroying the Constitution" is basic fear mongering. I'm scared. -

I respectfully disagree. As I said above, a tiny vocal minority aside, most atheists do not evangelize; to the contrary, they generally keep that on a pretty low profile to avoid either having to discuss it or being thought ill of by others. By and large, atheists just want to be left alone about religion, and pretty much mind their own business about it. That would explain why these Christian/religious threads never make it to page two.
-
I can't speak for the Born Agains or the Evangelicals, but my general belief is it has to do with what's in your heart. Do you honestly strive to be a good Christian? Or do you just make appearances. As far as sinning goes, we all have our weaknesses. Making a concerted effort to "repent" and asking for forgiveness (as well as help), when we backslide, is far different from doing whatever we please and then seeking absolution on Sunday. I've heard the later referred to as "one day a week Christians".
