A "Two Term President" conservative.

Irony meter pegged again.... The right wing neo cons make NO ACTION unless they are based on their IDEOLOGIES Wow. It looks like that went right over your head. Do you consider every American who supported sending troops to Iraq to be neo-cons? I'm talking about the overwhelming majority who favored this effort back on March '03. All neo-cons?

I wonder who will chime in saying he should be held responsible because "his reasoning abilities are not yet fully developed" or some similar nonsense.

It's a miracle!

I was wondering the same thing.
-
What I said and what you claim I said are quite different. It's about reading comprehension... some thing you, jakee and champu could all improve on. I'm guessing you (all) misread my posts because taking them at face value would require you to set aside your prejudices.

Moral Relativism is so cool.

What's a "theonion"? Was he that boy on The Cosby Show" I don't get it?

I see. You're of the opinion that even though the December Holiday season, which is overwhelming recognized as being all about Christmas (at least in the US and much of the Western World).... even though it originated with other December celebrations... ones that are now little noticed fringe events... that somehow these mostly forgotten forerunners to Christmas deserve the same legitimacy as Christmas. Is that about it? Knock yourself out, sport.

That was a terrible post. The first statement you make is false, you've insulted the parent poster in a childish way by suggesting his point of view be subjected to an "idiocy scale", you've created an analogy that very much misses the point, and you've used onomatopoeia that degrades the mentally retarded... ...but hey, Merry Christmas! Perhaps you can provide me with a definition of "traditions" that includes a specific criteria regarding originating one's own tradition. We have a lot of family traditons that we learned from others and adopted as our own. Their origins don't change the fact that they are our family traditions. Perhaps you thought it was terrible because you just didn't understand it. DURRR

It's like deja vu... all over again.

I'm not. What you wrote about your family's annual celebration gets two thumbs up in my book. Sounds like a "when in Rome... make lemonade" situation. My issue is with efforts to demean Christmas. Cheers.
-
That statement would make sense IF and ONLY IF the "Christian Traditions" were original. It doesn't, because they aren't. Whether or not longstanding Christian/Christmas traditions have origins elsewhere has no bearing on whether or not they can be claimed as Christian/Christmas traditions. On the idiocy scale, this ranks up there with those people who say "only Native Americans have the right to call themselves Americans". DURRR.

Tell me, jakee... did your family celebrate Christmas, when you were growing up? How so? I wonder... because you seem to display a fair amount of hostility against long standing Christian traditions.
-
Sounds just like a Christmas Tree. Is there a "solstice" manger scene in your home, too?
-
What happened two thousand years ago is basically irrelevant to what are obviously recognized as symbols for celebrating Christmas in this country, today. Well, that excludes anything and everything to do with Jesus and Mary in a stable, then, doesn't it? AWAY with all the nativity scenes. I don't think I could have set you up, any better, if I tried. Here's what I menat: What various pagans did thousands of years ago is basically irrelevant to what are obviously recognized as symbols for celebrating Christmas in this country, today. And just in case your unclear, the mainstream celebration of Christmas includes a number of symbols in addition to the focal manger scene.
-
Is it decorated? How so? Any decorations typically considered Christmas tree decorations?

If you're talking about CNBC, then yes? I got my info on livestock's contribution to greenhouse gases from http://news.independent.co.uk/environment/article2062484.ece. For those who doubt claims about current forest acres in the US, consider our ability to put out forest fires is relatively new. -

Oooo Cultural standards for the benefit of society, as a whole. Who has been tearing down these standards for the last 50 years??? -
I'd be interested in hearing what people think the US did, regarding his 1973 coup.

We haven't quantified either the costs or the benefits. That said, much of the cost comes in conversion, not in long-term operation. Going from a carbon-based high-waste economy to a less-carbon-based low-waste economy will means costs of development, retooling, and hassle for people. But the longterm result can do nothing but benefit us, because then, as a people, our overall cost of existence (and impact on the planet) will be lower. Wendy W. Sounds like the benefits you claim are based on (purely hypothetical) assumptions. -

yes. Same reason as Wendy gave, it's the right thing to do. At what cost? $10 Billion/year? 100 Billion/year? 1Trillion/year? And how about jobs? Is 3 million jobs lost, too much? If the costs are high and the benefits are negligible, should we still do it because "it's the right thing"? -
Christmas hasn't always been about Christ? No kidding. You might want to do a little research to see if Christmas is the same or completely separate from other non-Christian celebrations that happen about the same time. I said from the holiday. Read it and weep Sucka! Right. The CHRISTMAS holiday!!! That is pretty much contiguous with the various Yule/ Saturnalia holidays (except for a few breaks where the christians banned it) that stretch much further back. Jesus is not the reason for a winter holiday. If you didn't know by now that was my point then I doubt this will help. Is pedant a British term?
