So. Do we execute THESE kinda guys for desertion?
ROK replied to akarunway's topic in Speakers Corner
So what makes this dipstick think he has the right to decide what is acceptable to him and what is not? I've said it before and I'll say it again: the military are volunteers, and have willingly, knowingly subordinated their personal wishes in order to become the instruments of foreign policy, and therefore do not get to decide what wars they will fight. This man (and I use the term loosely) has chosen not to honor the terms of the agreement he made when he received his commission, and should therefore be punished according to the UCMJ. End of story. If I were the JAG, I would move this case along as slowly as possible, so that by the time it goes to trial (assuming he is formally charged), it will no longer be a liberal-left-wing-radical-anti-war Cause du Jour. mh Very well put... He's a traitor at best, and I would label him as a terrorist. No sympathy, he needs to be prosecuted. When you raise your hand, you give up your rights to pick and choose. It has to be this way, or our military would crumble. A US officer speaking out against our government is nauseating. I'd give him to his troops... -
Me too! It's strange to see so many red drinkers. Most people I'm around tend to go white. I just tried "Toasted Head" Cabernet and it kicks ass! I'm a cab man from the word go...

Exactly. If they truly didn't care about the money, the suit would be for some token amount (as you suggested, yes, $1) or for some reasonable amount, like maybe $100K. No way do I believe they don't care about the money when the suit is for, what is it, $70,000,000? That would be like me saying I don't care about beer while on my way to the liquor store to attempt a purchase. Who wouldn't want 70 million bucks??? I personally don't believe this takes away from the point he's trying to make at all. If I were seriously injured while taking an active role in defending my Country, my mind-set would be that there was a purpose behind that injury. Perhaps it's the only thread I'd have to hang on to. My sanity may depend on it. In comes a wanker like Mr. Moore and not only does he snatch it away, he uses it like a stick to beat the shit out of your sustaining beliefs. Yeah, I'd be a little pissed. I'd want news attention and anything at my disposal to fight back. Does everyone realize the psychological damage that people like Moore may do to our sisters and brothers in arms? In combat, the last thing you need is to be doubting whether what you're doing is right or wrong. When you raise your hand, and swear to defend your Country on foreign or domestic soils, you lose the right to actively oppose your mission. A strong bond with your fellow soldiers, and a belief in what you're doing keeps many going. I'd be willing to bet some big cash that if he were offered money to withdraw his statements, he'd tell the fat bastard to stick it up his ass...

He'd rather light himself on fire with an accelerant that jump. Video?

First Time Traveling with Rig !!!??
ROK replied to skygypsea's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I just got back from Hawaii Monday. Went through Tampa, Dallas, and LA on the way there, and through Honolulu back through Dallas to Tampa on the way back. I carried my rig out in the open and my gear bag with helmet, suit, audible, wrist altimeter, and my packing tool. I don't have an AAD. I had zero problems. One guy asked where the CO2 cartridge was, and I just told him that I don't have one. I didn't bother to explain what he should have been looking for. What was interesting is that after about 20 hours of flying, only one person asked me about my rig. I was worried, and relieved that the general public has no idea what a parachute rig looks like. I waited in the security line with about three hundred people in Tampa, and when I got through and was putting my tennis shoes on, the supervisor walked up and asked me for my boarding pass. He looked at it and told me I was in the wrong terminal. I know the blood drained from my face because the wiseguy broke out laughing, and told me to have a good flight! By the way...jumping in Hawaii rocks! -
If you're going to Hawaii, do what ever you can to jump here! Just got back to the mainland yesterday, and I wish that I had spent more than two days at the DZ. From the minute I stepped foot on the DZ, I was treated well, and received two briefings; They were both excellent and everyone from the owner (Guy), packers, pilots, and local jumpers made me feel welcome. I didn't have any problems getting on loads as an up jumper. I was even invited to come back early the next day for an early morning load. Everyone else has already written about the view, so no more needs to be said. Pack a lunch though. There is no food service except for vending machines. I'm going back in a few months! If you need any info on where to stay, etc. Feel free to contact me at Clouddyver@aol.com PS- The landing area is plenty big enough...

As long as they make tupperware and shovels, the UN or anyone else will never get my guns, or the really awesome reloader that I have! We Americans are so hardheaded. What will they do with us....

I have the honor of jumping with the Phantoms at Z-Hills every few weeks. I pull in the bags for them. One of the guys that jumps regularly with them is like 80 something years old. He's been in every war since they invented gun powder. By the way...I'm 42

I'm actually exactly in person, like I am on here. (with the exception of being at the house. I tend to bow down to the boss when I'm there.) Why do I all of a sudden feel depressed?
-
Oh, don't be such a wet blanket! Everyone loves a little cleavage. I like it when they look up and say hi to me when I walk in the door, and when I push my glass out towards the edge of the bar, they come right over and fill it. Other than that, I pretty well entertain myself and who ever may be within conversing distance. Really good bartenders can make you feel unique and like a friend without seeming overly flirtatious.

So, uh, did you guys break up after that? Walt Actually, I tried to patch things up... I like a woman with a little spirit She was done with me. I broke her golden rule. "Thou shalt not survive after I try to kill you"? Walt "Thou shalt not kiss my best friend and invite her to do a three-way" ( I didn't skydive at the time)

What behavior in a woman makes her a "psycho"? Mood swings. Going from "I love you" to "Die, you bastard--I hate you" within the space of a few minutes is a good indicator of psycho chick. *** I thought that this was called "marriage"???? I dated a chick who was teaching at a local college. She was the sweetest person that I had ever met. Loved animals, cried at movies, the entire deep feeling deal. I got hammered at a party and hugged and kissed her girlfriend. She went ballistic! Ran out of the house and backed out of the driveway. I ran out to apologize and as I was crossing in front of the car, she nailed the gas pedal and I ended up on the hood. She slammed on the brakes, I rolled off. She got out and ran up to me (I thought to make sure that I was ok) She kicked me twice, jumped back in the car and took off! No more dating psyche professors I believe that there is a little psycho in everyone. You just have to find the right/ wrong button to push.

Thanks! I'll try the over both shoulders technique... Where is your slider when your flaking?
-
Question... I see that you have your slider over your shoulder while you are flaking your canopy. The lines are spread up to your shoulder. When I pack, I was taught to leave the slider down and hold the lines together above it, which makes it a little difficult to see. Is this just a preference for some people? I have a Tri 190 and it about kicks my ass every time I pack it...

I too started out with a Navigator and thought that I would stick with a 9 cell. I tried a Spectre one day and really really liked it. A little later I tried a Triathlon and found that I felt more in control of my landings. The canopy just seemed to become an extension of my body. I love the way it lands, but I'm still dealing at times with flaring unevenly, which by the way, makes for great PLF practice

No. Nothing at all. Everything posted on dropzone is far left. I tend to disagree... Everything posted here, is far side...

Lucky - what's up? the lefties don't get a -2 or a 0 to select? You are gonna get SO bashed by those guys......... If they get a -2 and a 0, I want a 11 and 13. The damn communists on here have no respect for our government these days. What happened to standing behind our president? Now it's "popular" and "cool" to go about slandering him calling a liar, an idiot, and so on. I want to know how much better these so-called "lefties" could do... I think if they had their choice they'd go about running our country like Mussolini and Stalin. I'm telling you, we don't need any of this. Cool home page, now, gird your loins, they're going to get you

I bought a book, and a tape which give you the basics, but there is nothing better than hanging out with the locals and having them speak nothing but Spanish to you. THey also give courses at most community colleges.... If you want to know the name of the book and the CD, I'll go out and get them out of my car for you.

Got my A licence and first chop!
ROK replied to BannanaGirl's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Ha! Your lucky...they stamped it on my forhead after the card!!! Took a long time to wash it off the next day... The Scarlet "A" HA!!! -
Think up a keyword or phrase... Geronimo, seeyaa, byebye, etc. During the day, everytime you open a door, say the word or phrase, and then let go. Your mind/body will condition itself to react the same way every time you say the word or phrase. We use this simple technique in other areas not related to skydiving, and it works well.

Got my A licence and first chop!
ROK replied to BannanaGirl's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Awesome! I think one of the best moments in my life was when I got that "A" stamp on my card. I checked the mail with anticipation for a few weeks looking for that license to come! Time to buy gear! Here's to you... -
I spend a couple of days every other week in Miami. At first, I felt like I was on another planet. As soon as I got to know some of the population (Cubans) an entire new world opened for me. I'm currently working on learning Spanish and I get some very strange looks from the locals. Watch out who teaches you. I asked this chick in a convenience store to marry me...(the bastards)!

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. You get to keep your guy card. Normally, you would get at least a 30-day suspension, but your version of the ultimate friend sounds great to me too. I'm gonna pretend I never saw it. Walt Pheeeww! Thanks! Those damn lace panties always did get caught in my crack
