  1. Maybe he wanted to jump out of a H_E_L_C_O_P_T_E_R...
  2. Andy Butchko is alive and well in Belize. He still makes a couple of jumps a year out of their military plane. He's pretty connected to the Belize Defence Force guys and he's still a character. He tells some great tales of the Texas days
  3. If I was running the ladder truck, that quadcopter would have been accidentally hit with 500 gpms. And having a few fire extinguishers, one in the kitchen, one in the garage at least, can stop things if caught quickly.
  4. http://vimeo.com/36629075 EMS training we hosted for Skydive Elsinore a couple of years ago. Fast forward to the 1 hour mark for the gear removal portion. I am hosting this at my DZ in Oceanside this month for the OFD and REACH AIR medivac helicopter crews and hopefully at Skydive San Diego soon with their EMS locals and Mercy Air Helicopter crews. The closest five fire stations to both Perris and Elsinore have all had this training along with Mercy Air crews. Skydive Perris can now bypass the 911 system and phone Mercy Air direct. We worked with the Eloy FD years ago and now they can radio the Eloy FD dispatch directly. Good emergency planning at your local DZ will save someone someday. If you need help setting anything up for your DZ, or have any questions, send me a message.
  5. There are many things a non first aid trained jumper can do to help out in an incident. 1. Stay calm and offer your help. 2. Follow the instructions of the trained person. 3. If no one is trained in first aid, keep the jumper from moving around until help arrives. 4. Many time we need help for shade and lugging first aid gear. 5. If they don't want or need your help, stay clear. 6. Did I mention stay calm. At Perris years ago I was the only first aid trained person at the DZ. A friend hooked it in on a new downsized canopy. He was bleeding to death from open bi lateral femur fractures. His teammates, all good friends of mine, stayed very calm and followed instructions, applying pressure to stop the bleeding and helping keep him down. A simple step, but it saved him. He had a head injury and was violent when he regained consciousness. This is why I urge all skydivers to take at least a basic first aid course. I also urge all DZ's to have an emergency plan.
  6. It's a pretty simple concept. When someone comes to do a tandem jump, the instructor needs to treat the person like this is the best jump he (or she) has ever done. It might be the instructors 10 or 11th jump of the day and it will be soon forgotten, but for the first timer, they will remember every single detail, including the attitude and what is said by the instructor. And for the regular fun jumpers, treat them fairly and appreciate their loyalty.
  7. It's their right to do that. It's my right to call them selfish cowards. In a case such as you mention where they're intentionally trying to make sure people keep dying, I'd say substantially worse. Yes, it is your right, and it's my right to believe you're acting like a an ass. You think anyone that isn't for skydiving is somehow vehemently against it. You're going a long way with your logic saying that if a whuffo family member of a deceased jumper won't release equipment for inspection that they are "intentionally trying to make sure people keep dying". Based on your logic, if someone doesn't try to help you, they must be trying to kill you. Geez, Dood. Um, you might want to re-read what you posted, and what I replied to: " For many of those people, helping in the analysis would be akin to helping the sport - the sport that killed their family member as they see it." To intentionally withhold something that might help prevent deaths is ABSOLUTELY intentionally trying to make sure people keep dying. I'm NOT saying that's what is happening here, it was a reply to your posting that as a hypothetical. I know DZO's that have not thoroughly investigated an incident and had the gear destroyed. Stop blaming a family for anything.
  8. She had a great time by all facebook accounts of folks that are in Eloy now. A tandem queen? Who cares, skydiving is getting some positive press.
  9. Look who I picked for the Cup Final
  10. What do you guys think of the Olympic rosters? I'm surprised Team Canada didn't have Joe Thornton, Martin St. Louis, Marc Andre Fluery, Claude Giroux or James Neal.
  11. This will be the second year. From all accounts it was an amazing time with some great skydivers last year. They have a Super Caravan and the LZ is the beach.
  12. We only have a couple of slots remaining for the Palau boogie. I was just there last month to finalize all of the plans and made two helicopter jumps and did a couple of SCUBA dives. You really don't want to miss this.
  13. I wonder why Ohio is experimenting with a new option. The Brookfield, Ohio dirtbag Kenneth Biros was executed a while back with Sodium Thiopental. I went to high school with him. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/12/08/biros-execution-kenneth-b_n_384409.html
  14. Laura passed away after her long fight with breast cancer. She was a brilliant skydiver and an even better human being. Sometimes this life seems so unfair, she was truly one of the great ones.
  15. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icjh6wGUUfE The greatest Christmas story ever told...enjoy!
  16. Some people have 500 jumps, some people have the same jump 500 times.
  17. Craig Girard has the all time funniest "I'm a skydiver" story. He was coming back from the World Cup one year and some guy next to him on the plane goes on and on about being a jumper. And of course Craig just eggs him on. He never did tell the guy he just won a gold medal and he saw through the BS. He let the guy have his glory.
  18. Non stick cooking spray and a backwards landing! BRILLIANT! Why didn't I think of that!
  19. The Kings have never, ever had this sort of goalie depth in team history. I think they play the best overall team game in the league. The Hawks have a bit flashier goal scoring talent. I think Patrick Sharp is their best player, IMHO.
  20. The folks at Skydive San Diego will take great care of you. Stop in at the Gravity Gear Store on the DZ and meet Bonnie and Ashley. They will hook you up with everyone and everything you need to have a wonderful time. It's 72 and sunny here today
  21. I hate the Mighty Quackers, but did you guys see Corey Perry's goal after getting tripped last night? Wow!
