  1. FD ladder trucks make it to the ninth-tenth floor. So really you only need about 35 feet of rope
  2. Musty, damp firehose. My dad was a volunteer fireman when I grew up in Ohio. We spent hours together at the fire station when I was a little kid, and then I joined when I was 16. The firehouse smelled like damp firehose constantly as it hung from the drying tower in bunches.
  3. Ron Lee of Skydiving Innovations will be the instructor. Learn the ins and outs of exhibition jumps. FAA rules, regulations, paperwork, legal and liability issues, insurance requirements, marketing to clients, aircraft leasing, etc. Participants will jump smoke, hanging smoke, banners and flags, perform ground crew duties, etc. $395 include four jumps and all materials. Space is limited. 760-390-5867

  5. Hi Fabian, We can sort out your lodging with breakfast included, pick you up from the airport and hook you up with world champion freeflyers. We'll also book some tunnel time at a reduced rate for you and sell a block of 50 jump tickets at our bulk rate. We have a very active freefly scene and you will have a lot of skilled folks to jump with. We also have small group skills camps every month hosted by David Gershfeld. The view isn't too bad either. 6. Take any freeway in any direction and get off on the Bellflower Boulevard exit
  7. Ironic if she shot him and then was aquitted for standing her ground.

Impressive.

  10. Or more like a "Hold my Mountain Dew and watch this".
  11. Did you give them a "telling off" for putting you out over the clouds?
  12. Phone calls all hours of the day and night, and weekends, a few thousand e-mails, trips to FAA HQ, conference calls, paperwork, etc. I'm not sure what your angle is here, but trust me, Randy O is keeping all of us at airports the best he can and no one cares more. Plus, as skydivers, we keep screwing up enough to make airports not want us around. Nothing dubious is going on and no secrets are being protected. One other note. Some prospective DZO's are dummies and don't follow great advice, leading to longer battles. IMHO
  13. The USPA is VERY involved with ALL access issues. The main problem for the Airport Access Defense Fund is that skydivers don't often donate to it. Those funds are reserved for FAA Part 16 hearings. So the next time you renew your membership, buck up for the fund. During my own 2 year access battle with the city of Oceanside, Randy Ottinger, USPA's director of government relations, went above and beyond the call of duty to assist every step of the way. What goes on behind the scenes with access issues would amaze you. The work load is incredible to battle the red tape. Attorney Rick Durden is the USPA's go to guy for these issues. He assisted in my access issues.
  14. Iphones and GoPros killed boogie nekkidness
  15. There is a turbine in every backyard. When we were all belly flyers, we all knew each other and didn't want to miss a boogie, as there weren't as many " back in the day". RW, free flying, wingsuiting, swooping have turned us into sub groups, leading to fewer jumpers knowing each other worlwide. Today's jumpers want a lot of jumps, tunnel time, different gear for different disciplines, leading to less $$$$ to spend on jumping in a corn field and drinking beer and telling no shit stories. Big events such as the P3 in Perris, head down camps and records, etc are attractive to jump on and cost a lot of $$$$. Exotic boogies cost $$$ and many jumpers save up to attend those, going to fewer domestic events. It takes hard work to keep long running boogies " fresh". Specialty aircraft is a draw as is Gear demos, free beer, organizers, etc. We also have to introduce our newer jumpers to our older ways of fun
  16. Silly, I bet you thought you were " first"
  17. There are more germs on your hands than on their scrubs.
  18. Sad to hear. A good guy. I always enjoyed discussing the sport with him.
  19. BHO got elected twice because McCain picked a dunce for a running mate and people were sick of GWB and the GOP, and Mitt Romney didn't have a game plan, flip flopped and looked pretty much clueless. Carry on...
  20. I will be hosting another PRO course with Ron Lee of Skydiving Innovations the last part of September at Tsunami Skydivers.
  21. Thanks for the info grimmie. Yesterday I received a message from another skydiver who jumped with Dan before and after his accident. We shared some info and I received Dan's contact info. This new info changes the history of paralyzed skydivers. Unless we can find anyone else (like the possible other 2 paralyzed skydivers mentioned in the article), Daniel Fairchild is the worlds 1st paralyzed skydiver as early as 1999. Wayne Flemington was paralyzed waist down in the Perris otter crash in 1992. He made about 40 or 50 jumps IIRC in1993-4. Another great guy that was an instructor and video flyer, and also the manager of the Perris Ultralight park. He now flies his gizmos all over the countryside. http://www.myvalleynews.com/story/52881/
  22. Bad advice. Hope you never frap in at a DZ when I'm there, unless you're gonna pay Helping out is the way to go. Folks that volunteer at my place usually end up with a few jump tickets.
  23. Dan was an instructor with a lot of experience. He was injured doing "blade running", the original speed flying down mountains with skydiving canopies. I haven't seen him in about two years. He's a great guy that stays pretty active with all sorts of projects. He is paralyzed waist down. Madjohn here may have contact info for him.
