Difference between jumping now and then
grimmie replied to potatoman's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
In the old days you would just show up at the DZ and have a bunch of people to jump with. Everyone knew each other, because we all did RW. We didn't need 30 hours in a wind tunnel to learn how to smile on a skydive. Fun jumping was...fun! People actually learned the old fashioned way by doing, not by watching youtube. Now we have so many different factions. RW, head down, swooping, CRW, Wing Suits, angle flying, tracking jumps etc. that it keeps people from meeting each other at the DZ. And jump run used to be over the top with everyone falling straight down. Now jump runs are mayhem, with people going in all different directions and freefall speeds, which can lead to LZ mayhem. As for the death of skysurfing, it's pretty simple. All of the boys were getting really sick and tired of being beaten down by a 105 lb lovely little brunette dynamo named Tanya Garcia. They all took their boards and went home. -
Do you really think that the USPA isn't on this case? Land use away from an obligated airport CAN be regulated/permitted/zoned to deny skydiving because the city, state, county CAN regulate the ground activities. Just because the FAA regulates aviation, that doesn't mean you can put a heliport, airport or DZ just anywhere you would like.

Nice work! It helps to have officials that want you in their city. I have my own noise complainers here. It's at every airport these days. https://thecoastnews.com/2014/02/airport-neighbors-complain-of-noise-and-safety-issues/

Which California Dropzones offer helicopter jumps?
grimmie replied to CalBear's topic in Events & Places to Jump
We had a lengthy battle to be on the airport. At first it was C or D only, and then after 6 months of everyone landing on the LZ, we negotiated it to a B. We have about 32 acres of landing area surrounded by city. An A-Star helicopter costs a lot per hour for all of those moving parts. The owner/pilot loves skydiving and skydivers and he pretty much only breaks even on the deal. -
Which California Dropzones offer helicopter jumps?
grimmie replied to CalBear's topic in Events & Places to Jump
We now allow WS jumps if you have 500 total jumps and 70 WS jumps. We bring in the A-Star during our boogies. The next time will be either Cinco De Mayo or or Labor Day Surf's Up Boogie. $70 to 5K. We require a USPA "B" minimum. -
Because that land is within the city's zoning laws. If they don't want skydiving there, they have a million and one "loopholes" to keep us out.

Bill Nye Debates Ken Ham - Science vs Creationism

How ironic. Pat thinks Ken is crazy http://www.christianpost.com/news/pat-robertson-to-ken-ham-lets-be-real-lets-not-make-a-joke-of-ourselves-114063/ -
What makes skydivers so different from whuffos?
grimmie replied to Guru312's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have seen very little anger out of the skydiving community the past 25 years. It always amazes me that you can get a couple of hundred skydivers all jammed into the Lost Prairie Lounge, all drinking their heads off, all chasing the same girls (or guys), for a week solid, and no one punches out anyone, except for maybe a couple of obnoxious locals. You could never put a couple of hundred firemen and cops together like that without major mayhem -
If You Could Be On Any TV Show What Would It Be?

grimmie replied to sfzombie13's topic in Speakers Corner
Good stuff! I think they got the point loud and clear. -
Sid has been in a bit of a slump and Stamkos may not play. Geno and Ovie are on fire and will be in front of their home crowd. Sweden has a great line up. Finland has great goaltending. The Czechs have some talent and old guys Jagr and Nedved, but suspect goaltending. Team USA has the best goalie in Quick, if they score some goals they'll be tough to beat. It's going to be fun!

Nerds are scoring more than the KIngs. What a slump...

It wasn't much different from his interviews with GWB. Bill O' asked a few hardball questions and then dodged the follow ups the too. Not many TV guys are very good interviewers these days. I think it is because they are so used to giving everyone their own opinions on matters, they can't stop long enough and take their slant out of the questioning and actually do an interview. And when has any politician answered a tough question. Just watch a debate during election time.

Demo at the AFC Championship game
grimmie replied to Divalent's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
So what poor bastards will be freezing their asses off into the Super Bowl demo??? Anyone??? -
Some drop zones that are located on public airports in America have a requirement in their lease agreement that every skydiver be a member of the USPA.

I went to the outdoor game at Dodger Stadium yesterday. What a great atmosphere! The Kings should have gotten the Great One some gear after he dropped the ceremonial first puck

DOT Issues Favorable Opinion on Skydiving Taxes
grimmie replied to 3331's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
http://www.uspa.org/Portals/0/Downloads/2013DOTOpinion.pdf This is a very big win for skydiving. Besides states that want to tax free fall, there are cities/counties/airport sponsors that want to deem skydiving "commercial entertainment", thus imposing a per jump tax. The battle to keep jump tickets low and jump planes flying at an airport near you never ends. -
Skydive Palau, Party in the Pacific, April 1-10, 2014!
grimmie replied to grimmie's topic in Events & Places to Jump
We only have a couple of rooms remaining. Regan Tetlow and Andy Malchiodi will be load organizing, the nightly party schedule is pretty incredible and the view over Palau is unreal. And the SCUBA, did we mention the SCUBA... -
Great minds think alike!!!!!!
