Boy is it stupid to not change ALL the batteries at once Cmon, it's along the lines of "don't microwave your doggie" and you shouldn't need a manual telling you not do do this What I do see some people do however is using fully charged batteries for things like camera flashes but they use different batteries, ie mix 2 brands of rechargeable AA's. This is also a bad idea, use the same batteries (and with the same charge level) in any appliance. Especially something that may end up saving your bacon ciel bleu, Saskia

Winter jumping is great fun, we had 2 SL students this weekend that both got their wings (5 SL jumps) in one day, in the snow! The one AFF student this weekend got his first 3 jumps in on Saturday. Sunday was too windy for students for most of the day, not sure if he did any more jumps. Some pics of jumping in the snow this weekend here: http://www.paracentrumteuge.nl/component/option,com_zoom/Itemid,489/catid,61/ Actually it wasn't that cold, -5 oC at ground level and -5 oC at 12000ft too I believe

Eh? Lots of vector 2's for sale, not freefly proof. Older jav's, tend to have open flaps a lot, not my first choice either. To the OP: most new gear is freefly proof, a lot of older gear is too but ask your rigger first before buying anything. ciel bleu, Saskia

See how the bridle is not trailing behind the canopies? A crw bridle is basically a piece of dacron or microline, it runs through a few rings on the topskin of the canopy, canopy spreads out -> bridle gets spread out so seems shorter and the non-collapsible pilotchute (although sometimes these do have a kill-cone = piece of fabric to collapse it a bit) is pulled against the tail. All this to make sure you have no trailing "tail" which can entangle when you dock. This whole setup of course wouldn't work with a kill-line type pc. http://www.vigil.aero/files/images/skydiving/skydiving-crw1.jpg ciel bleu, Saskia

Why can't I pull my front risers?
dragon2 replied to GPSJane's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Interesting... the hurricane is very popular around here. Much much more popular than the sabre2 for example. Never seen any issues like that. Very scary. Dave Actually I starting doubting a bit so I asked around to be sure and turns out I made a mistake in recalling the problem canopy's name: heatwave not hurricane. ciel bleu, Saskia -
Why can't I pull my front risers?
dragon2 replied to GPSJane's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The Hurricane is frankly DANGEROUS on front risers, seen a few of those fold under, not pretty. This is a canopy I would skip altogether but if you gotto jump it do not use the frontrisers below your harddeck for any reason. Seriously. I'd stay with your pilot, waaaay better canopy! ciel bleu, Saskia -
Get the lens you saw at B&H it's a great lens for a HD camera. It comes with the step ring included so you're all set. You'll see a marked improvement over your singe element lens

Here's a handy list about where to place various canopies performance-wise. For a first canopy you want a canopy from category 1, 2 or 3, most people go with a cat 2 or 3 canopy: click ciel bleu, Saskia

Of course the WSI should check the gear and stuff, like I said if that didn't happen for you something very weird happened. If you still went for the jump without getting a checkup that is weird too As for accompanying a FF, I remember talking to James about it when I got my PFI patch as some WSI at the time were making it quite expensive to start wingsuiting, the manual that's on my laptop says a few things about this: Although it does seem the wording has changed in the version that is now downloadable on the PF website: I'll jump with a wingsuit student w/video anytime, if they want me to. If they don't want to pay an extra slot and we both feel comfortable about them going alone, I'll let them. But of course a check by an experienced bird is mandatory ciel bleu, Saskia

I was busy typing... See my post right above yours. Rumours I heard from different people say something else as Jarno says, oh well, right or wrong, I got problems with the guy as long as he keeps doing what he's doing. ciel bleu, Saskia

That is Henny's (and Phoenix-Fly) style of teaching: you get the course and of course you get a gearcheck and stuff (if you didn't that's weird, I know I did on all my wingsuit jumps with one of Henny's suits) but we don't "force" you to get coaching for the first few jumps if you don't want it. We'll jump with you (w/video) for slot if you want or you can go solo, your choice. I find beginner wingsuiters will get feedback anyway when they start to jump with others, and will ask for one-on-one coaching for something specific or for a photo shoot, but not the first few jumps. Maybe I'm biased since although I paid for slot/video from my first jump I never did get to even see it/got debriefed due to said jumper (he wasn't a WSI at the time) having to leave the DZ in a hurry. Didn't miss it all that much though ciel bleu, Saskia

I seem to have a recurring problem over the years with a wingsuit instructor who thinks it's ok to sell/let wingsuit students of mine jump big suits, and is genuinely amazed/outraged ("who are you to decide he can't jump this") when I tell him a Blade for a 2nd wingsuit jump is a no-go at our DZ. ciel bleu, Saskia

Username: vela58 -- Classified Buyer Scam
dragon2 replied to j_ung's topic in Security and Scam Alerts
Guys........ just from reading the first line of his email it is 100% clear it is a scam. Just read through a few other scammer threads, or sell some more on dz.com you'll get it in no time The real scam of course comes when they offer to pay more than you're asking and ask you to refund the rest to them, accompanied by a sob story of some kind to explain. Their check of course is false yours is not, voila money made. Since basically they don't even WANT whatever you're selling they offer arrange freight themselves (now who even DOES that ) if so you're lucky you didn't lose the item too. So either believe the longtimers here who spot these scammers in 0.1 second flat or go ahead and mail with them a few times see if my scenario plays out. ciel bleu, Saskia -

Where were you at 00:00, 01,01,09??

I was here, having a good time at the DZ -
My story is similar to yours, except no cutaways on the same day so far If I didn't jump video on pratically every jump, I'd jump an RSL (or skyhook) for sure. My cutaways with rsl went better than those without. ciel bleu, Saskia

You don't. Going from a track suit (which isn't even a wingsuit) to a V3? Not smart. It's not safe and you will also be hampered by it in your prograssion. Would you buy a Katana straight after a student canopy? You're way better off learning to fly something like a sabre (GTi) or sabre 2 (Phantom) first. Otherwise you'll just be the guy with the big suit that is flying HIM, and flying solo at that. I'd be surprised if your wingsuit instructor will let you even fly a V3 with anything less than a good amount (~100) jumps on an intermediate suit. ciel bleu, Saskia
-
Um if you have no clue how to slow down a wingsuit what are you wanting a V3 for? Sounds to me you're either trolling or are in need of a FJC and a beginner suit. ciel bleu, Saskia
