  1. Hopefully they're all big (>200 sqft) but different brand rigs can have different reserve sizes, they'll also take a few reserve sizes so even with the exact same rigs the reserves (and mains) may very well be different if some reserves have got replaced or not bought at the same time or scrounced together, and not all reserves have the same rating so some reserves may be suited for heavier students while some may NOT, even though they may be the same size. With a lighter student having a smaller/lower rated reserve than the main may very well be acceptable, with a heavier student, not so much. If someone says you can't jump a particular rig, I'd want to ask why but I would take their word for it
  2. AFAIK, Voodoo is more expensive, and only works well with one size canopy. If you plan on sticking to one size canopy for a while I think the voodoo may be the better rig but the advance is nice too and will serve you better for longer (one or 2 downsizes). ciel bleu, Saskia
  3. On the factory PdF setup the pin(s) is not going to rotate, it's going to hit the housing horizontally and thus stay put as long as there's some tension on it. I actually have no clue if the double sigma pins will rotate if pulled, interesting if they do, will take a closer look
  4. On my previous rig (PdF Atom) the factory rsl setup DID prevent the handle from passing completely through the housing. Same goes for our Sigma tandem rigs, they too have 9-shaped pins. What's the problem with that? Other than the fact that after you let go of the handle you could loose it should the cable slip off the pin, so the 2nd time round I wrapped my cable around my cheststrap a few times to prevent that ciel bleu, Saskia
  5. the stuff ends up mostly on your cameraflyer Well these are photoshopped a bit to get rid of the drops. The video of this jump is offline at the moment but on exit I got my lenses full of redbull ie, not recommended Edit: Luckily someone uploaded the vid to youtube
  6. I had 2 out with a skymaster 230 and a big student reserve, they still downplaned on me even though they were both square and similar size. I very much doubt a non-square main (the more HP the worse) is going to play nice with any size reserve and the chances of you ending up with 2 out are pretty slim, a single reserve canopy is much more likely so you want a reserve you can land anywhere anytime regardless of your main. ciel bleu, Saskia
  7. He had a U-bracket with velcro over the top and the camera was in a camera condom, no box. ciel bleu, Saskia
  8. Last month of our season we had 2 cameramen lose their cameras due to riser strike (pc106/pc109, sidemounts do not get any tinier than that). The guy with a few thousand jumps just lost his camera, the guy with a few hundred camera jumps could've lost way more: after a malfunction he pulled his reserve and the reserve knocked off his camera and SHEARED OFF SOME LINES on what was left of the sidemount Luckily for cameraguy he jumps a 5cell Swift and it landed him ok-ish even minus a few lines. He is a big tough guy but his neck was hurting bad for few weeks. The reserve earned itself a reline
  9. A phantom is a very nice allround suit. ciel bleu, Saskia
  10. Why not the A1 then, I think it's still being sold, haven't seen the hc1 for sale for a while. ciel bleu, Saskia
  11. I'm a big hc5 fan. HC5 is compatible with both cameye and hypeeye pro, and the EIS is the best for skydiving: you can turn it off I'm also a topmount fan. Topmount all the way, it is too wide for sidemount. Topmount is way better for your neck and for your equipment. Sidemount is nice to have for AFF and other inside FS video, for everything else topmount works too if not better. Also you want a HD quality lens an on HD camera, a small lens like liquid is a waste of resolution might as well buy a pc1000 or something... A HD lens is bigger than is good for sidemounting. So for most videograhers my advice would be to get a hc5, hd lens and a good topmount helmet with cutaway, and with option for stills later if you think you'll want to jump stills at a future date. ciel bleu, Saskia
  12. I never grabbed anything else in 7 cutaways, didn't look: can't see my handles anyway ciel bleu, Saskia
  13. Only one suggestion possible: have fun And get video if you can, you only jump for the first time once ciel bleu, Saskia
  14. I'd go see a doctor pronto if I were you, before you jump again, spitting blood can't be good. I'd try to see an ear/nose/throat specialist if I were you. ciel bleu, Saskia
  15. Always interested in learning new tricks for video editing, as long as it's not mac-only And providing it's at a more or less decent time for over here ciel bleu, Saskia
  16. Who says you need 200 jumps for BASE ciel bleu, Saskia
  17. Careful with that advice, a bigger slider can also lead to HARDER openings. ciel bleu, Saskia
  18. With my HC5 I film 6-8 minutes, finished product is 8-10 minutes. I need 20 minutes to edit and burn the dvd (with music and slow-mo), rotate the photos and burn the photo cd, pack my canopy if I have to pack myself and film the intro of the next vid. 25 minutes is easier on me The guys using CX type camera are faster but they use a linear editing system so they take less than 10 mins. No one here is using a CX type camera with a NLE yet. Would be curious to know what my time would be then, with my current PC. ciel bleu, Saskia
  19. I got some this summer, for a new FTP next season. I just emailed them. ciel bleu, Saskia
  20. Canopies that are suitable and that I know come in that size: triathlon, sabre 2 (of which sabre 2 is the more high performance one and the tri the more docile canopy). You'd probably have to buy these new though. 2nd hand you're looking at older F111 models and student type canopies, which would also work and be much cheaper. ciel bleu, Saskia
  21. You buy a few bonds from Bonehead now @ 100 usd each, after 6 months they're worth 200 usd each. You can order your helmet @ 5 months so it could be shipped @ 6. ciel bleu, Saskia
  22. OK, you're a cocky dumbass then. Don't hurt anyone else. ciel bleu, Saskia
