I have 10 jumps on a MTR1 (wingsuit jumps 11-20 after 10 jumps on a classic 1), I found it very easy to fly, easier than say a classic 1/2, but very floaty (easily got 42 MPH but not going very fast forward), a bit harder to turn as it flies so stable and harder to do acrobatics in (frontflips etc). All in all I liked how the suit flew, but it flew so different from the classics, GTIs etc we flocked with at the time that I didn't buy a suit like that, but I can see why people like the design. ciel bleu, Saskia

A rig with a combo small-packing main and reserve could be a godsend for a newbie small jumper

There's some pics posted already in this thread by Scotty plus this link, sorta boxy Never mind, you want to see it's bottom ciel bleu, Saskia

A bracket? Nope, just mount it on a flat surface upside down up front or right side up on ront or on top of your helmet (or get creative and get a shark fin and mount it sideways up top), best use a good quality quickrelease. ciel bleu, Saskia

It's the thingy that I had to go look for after the last clip of this video And I'm NOT that old Oh and please don't do what guy did in the almost-last clip ciel bleu, Saskia

Because of the extra frames needed? I convert both the same way (using premiere): capture clips in project with the right setting for the original project, import the captured clips in project with the settings (NTSC/PAL) you want to export in, resize the wrong-format clips, set field options of those clips to always deinterlace, burn to dvd. I think after effects can do this better but this is the quickest and easiest way I know of and the result is a playable and watchable NTSC (or PAL as the case may be) DVD. You know a better way (w/premiere) or have tips on that? ciel bleu, Saskia

i-link = firewire yes, and the camera works fine with vista. I've never had a sony miniDV camera NOT work w/vista so far ciel bleu, Saskia

You don't need any software from Sony and you can add a firewire port to your laptop providing it has either a PCMCIA cardbus slot or a Expresscard slot. However generally speaking, laptops that do not have firewire are not very well suited to videoediting as these usually are budget models (although not always). This means that editing and rendering will be slow, not a big deal if you're just playing around but better not be in a hurry ciel bleu, Saskia

I very much doubt you can get those anymore, if I were you I'd ask your rigger to recommend another brand that is compatible. ciel bleu, Saskia

A jumper I know bought a nice HD camera, then bought the expensive HD tapes for it, and then proceeded to shoot in SD quality only. Okay... Now after a while he asked me if I could tell what the problem with his camera was as he had loads of dropouts and the camera was still quite new. Turns out that because the tapes were so expensive he just reused them time and time again BTW I would advise to stick with one brand tape, I had the best results (= less dropouts) when I used just one brand with any one camera. ciel bleu, Saskia

The rubber camera armor works nice, doesn't help against moisture but does protect against little bumps and bruises, it's not very expensive and best of all it leaves the camera buttons, lcd and ports fully accessible so you can leave it on for ever. I think all the lower end (plastic) cameras benefit from camera armor, my D80 has it but my D200 doesn't need it let alone a D2X. I also lke it on my D80 because it makes the camera a bit bigger to hold, very nice fo groundshots. As a 400D is smaller and more plasticky than a D80 I would certainly get some armor for it. ciel bleu, Saskia

Need Opinions on AAD, Time for my replacement

They don't come with the case thing anymore. ciel bleu, Saskia -
A '94 Vector is NOT freefly proof as it sounds like you've been told before. You don't need any more input, you just need to buy another container if you want to freefly. ciel bleu, Saskia

Need Opinions on AAD, Time for my replacement

Did the vigil 2 have plane-under-pressure misfires too? The ones at WT06 were vigil 1's I thought? Anyway the argus responded the same as a cypres 2 on that jump, ie, shut itself down for that one jump. So an argus might also work for you. ciel bleu, Saskia -
The numbers are container sizes. Atom 000 99-115 reserve up to 110 main, atom 00 115-128 reserve 150 main (tight, 135-120 fit better), atom 0 156 reserve 170-150 main. This is all off the top off my head of rigs I own and have owned, PdF had a nice table on their website but website has been gone a while. BTW there are a few atoms floating around with too big reserves in them, mainly atom 00 with 143/156 reserve and atom 000 with 126/128 reserve, I would pass on those, or at least switch the reserve out. Never mind, read your post wrong. Never seen those numbers on mine, if I read it right it gives you the size of various parts of the rig, something the previous versions of atoms did not have. ciel bleu, Saskia

I think the 5 min limit is for HD video only, so maybe lower settings is ok, or you guys get a different version of the D90, also possible. Can you try a bigger card, see if it'll record longer? ciel bleu, Saskia

You want to pussyfoot around with something like this? It's effing dangerous playing with gear without understanding it and what you're doing. People have DIED doing that. Newer jumpers or any jumper really should get their new gear to a rigger to see it is assembled right BEFORE jumping it, or at the least get it checked over by an experienced jumper, otherwise you'll get questions like: "Hey I got 35 jumps, I just assembled my own new main, packed it, jumped it, turned out it was hooked up backwards, so I chopped it, question, what did I do wrong?!?" And that's a real thread on here somewhere. If you think someone is an asshole for pointing out that jumping with that mindset isn't going to lead to a long safe jumping career, then you haven't been jumping long enough and not seen enough. ciel bleu, Saskia

Not exactly true: there is a 5min limit PER VIDEOCLIP due to the higher import duties in Europe for videocameras. ciel bleu, Saskia

Depends on what you want to use the video for. There is still no alternative to jumping both a video camera and a stills camera. Stills from video cameras are various degrees of crappy, video from DSLRs isn't exactly crappy but also not a substitute for a real video camera. Yet ? Some interesting reading: review 1 review 2 BTW not having autofocus would be the least of MY worries, as I very rarely use autofocus for video anyway, and never for skydiving or filming swoop competitions and stuff. ciel bleu, Saskia

Crashing the ground with even high speed and or high speed stall.... I never really gave it much number crunching but my canopy feels like it recovery quicker on rears than brakes. Not like a sabre2 has a long recovery arc anyway. What canopy would you need to have the strength to go directly from a dive to a stall on rears? -Michael Strength? Not much strength needed to get a high-speed rearriser stall Here's an example of a guy trying to bail out on rears, now imagine if that were grass instead of water: 3:20 into this video. At 3:46 there's another guy bailing waaaay to low ciel bleu, Saskia

I did. But if said newbie post something like "Hey i have this question, I tried the search but got lost a bit" they'd get a warm welcome for sure. Just shows they made some effort, makes a world of difference. ciel bleu, Saskia

LOL you beat me to it Although my reply was a bit nicer I think ciel bleu, Saskia

Agreed 100%. On any other forum I frequent you'll get told to search if you ask a basic or hot question, it's just proper netiquette. Here, people will tell you off for posting "do a search" or even "inventing" a word like netiquette (which has been a word since about 1994 I believe first reference I can google up now is from 1995). It involves (among a lot of other things) reading the stickies and doing a search. What's so damn hard about doing so? If you feel you have something new to add or your specific case is different or technology has changed or whatever of course you can ask your question. But bombarding forums with the same old questions is just simply not done in the rest of the world. Guess skydivers have less manners, feel the rules (unspoken or not) don't apply to them, or want to have everything spoon-fed to them? ciel bleu, Saskia

Study Abroad Student in search of a NEW THRILL!
dragon2 replied to viperz42's topic in Events & Places to Jump
It's big, always open, nice scenery with the bay, nice airplanes, nice surroundings (night life, go kart, ...) and mostly it usually has excellent weather, except for some wind (eh, lot of wind) sometimes. The weather there is usually much better than more North, so for a skydiving holiday you have much better chances of actually jumping. ciel bleu, Saskia
