I remember that from one jump: first a loooooong holding at 8k then a call for a 20 minute holding at 13k. OK, rats, another 20 minutes. What time is it now? ok so in 20 minutes it's, eh, what time was it again now? ciel bleu, Saskia

If there are gliders around, like there often are at our DZ, weather conditions are VERY important: gliders hang out under clouds! Usually they're not very high (2000ft or so and lower) but sometimes they get up to 4000ft and well above. ciel bleu, Saskia

Techno reserves are nice, PD -R too

Atom and Icon (which is sorta an Atom anyway). I like both, both were 2nd hand so cheap and they fit which is nice I've had 4 Atoms in all, plus a Vulcan (Vector 2 clone) and the Icon. Too bad PdF has such lousy customer service as I do really like Atoms and the Techno reserves (not their mains though) so I'd not advise anyone to buy new stuff from them at the moment. ciel bleu, Saskia

Anybody dealt with nocek700 before or shipped to poland?
dragon2 replied to slj678's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If you had to pay 24% over 2nd hand gear + shipping costs you'd talk differently So yeah, for most buyers in Europe it is worth it. ciel bleu, Saskia -

1. 1980 jumper hit by C-130 and killed 2. 1993 jumper hit by piper cherokee and lived, AC crashed 4 dead 3. 1993 demo jumper hit by biplane circling him and both killed. 4. 2001 jumper exits KA and hits totter in formation flight. 5. 2005 totter hits Gus Wing, Gus died later.\ That is all of them on record. Two die as skydiver hits glider ciel bleu, Saskia

Anyone want a Skittle? I mean AFF rating?
dragon2 replied to OldSchol's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That's more along the lines of our rules: AFFI needs to have: D license 3 yrs in sport 500 formation jumps of which at least 50 successful linked exits be a HI ("help instructor", more than a coach but less than an I, this rating requires at lease 2 yrs in sport and some other stuff) ciel bleu, Saskia -
Bought a bad canopy? I DID!
dragon2 replied to Dreadswooper's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Why? ciel bleu, Saskia -
Square = a rectangle, it either is or it isnt. The only currently sold square sports canopy off the top off my head is a triathlon.Where it gets more arbitrary is the difference between semi-elliptical and elliptical, this sometimes refers more to the performance rather that the shape of a particular model. ciel bleu, Saskia

We have a lot of canopy rules and you need a AAD until your C license, however these rules are mainly for Dutch jumpers, and most of those rules are for up to 400 jumps. Visiting jumpers are usually allowed to jump their own gear assuming it's not completely out of line. Your rig with your 500 jumps should cause you no problems. If you freefly, wingsuit and/or fly camera, do use an audible. ciel bleu, Saskia

gear: link to Parachutes de France's website
dragon2 replied to dragon2's topic in Error and Bug Reports
The old website has been gone a while, best I can find is this website however it's in French only and very basic. ciel bleu, Saskia -
clicky Don't think this one was posted yet, could be wrong though. Even non-Dutch speakers should get this A lot of my non-skydiving acquantainces had trouble with this one though. This is a commercial from last year, part of a well-knows series about people doing not-so-smart things and then having to go call their insurance company. In this case, the major has arranged for a skydiving demo during a visit from the Queen. ciel bleu, Saskia

Bought a bad canopy? I DID!
dragon2 replied to Dreadswooper's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I know one or two airworthy Excaliburs lying around, never jumped one though. We got PLENTY of very cheap BT Pro's over here, if you want a real swoop canopy ciel bleu, Saskia -
"Those power lines suddenly appeared RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!!!" "Lutz Part II" "So what I forgot my TomTom" "Even Apeldoorn bellen" (sorry, Dutch joke ) ciel bleu, Saskia

Bought a bad canopy? I DID!
dragon2 replied to Dreadswooper's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Don't know about not fixing a canopy like that in general, we've had stilettos sabres and the like with thousands of jumps, even one that spend a year in a tree and after having had its center cell replaced it was going strong again can you believe it Of course in general our jumping conditions here are good (except for the tree bit) so that helps, and I've bought and jumped 1000+ jump canopies before and had one relined too. They're not necessarily written-off. If PD says the rest of this canopy is good to go, you'd still have a cheap canopy after repairs. Then again, putting the money towards a better model canopy would be far preferable in the OP's case IMO. ciel bleu, Saskia -
Bought a bad canopy? I DID!
dragon2 replied to Dreadswooper's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
More blah blah... I cannot understand though that your profile says you jump a sabre2 150, a good canopy for your jumpnumbers and the best to learn to swoop on, what do you even want with a stiletto A sabre2 has way more dive and less opening issues than a stiletto, what more could you want. Doesn't a rigger's apprentice know that? ciel bleu, Saskia -
Bought a bad canopy? I DID!
dragon2 replied to Dreadswooper's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Here's some more blah blah: why did you buy a stiletto in the first place with so little jumps plus a username that implies you want to learn how to swoop? A stiletto is not a good canopy for either. ciel bleu, Saskia -
When I had contacts, i didn't dare jump without very good fitting goggles. I jumped a Z1 fullface once for a freefly jump, when the visor opened in a stand-up it was all i could do to make sure i didn't lose my contacts, ruiined the rest of the jump, and I ended up with dried stuck-on soft contacts with the weighted bits (for the astigmatism) stuck the wrong way of course, made for an interesting landing and I made up my mind to have Lasik done then and there. ciel bleu, Saskia

Happened on my DZ a few years back, was a CRW rig so no RSL of course. ciel bleu, Saskia

I have a nikon D80 and a nikon D200, ie a heavy and a less-heavy camera. I prefer the D200 for those days I do up to 4 or 5 jumps, when it gets up to 8 or 10 jumps I'll put my d80 back on my helmet. The difference is weight, built quality (weather proof-ness) and the D200 is simply a better camera, as is the D30, however my neck tells me to be careful And at first the D80 was quite heavy enough thank you, I worked up to the D200 ciel bleu, Saskia

Well yeah, if they got it off istockphoto, they can do that ... ciel bleu, Saskia
