Not many, but this does help a lot of pilots who have rounds that are not manufactured anymore. We have something called a yearcheck here, meaning that besides repacking a rigger has to sign off the rig as airworthy every year. He couldn't do that if one of the rig components was too old. I think the rule got changed because of the pilot rigs mainly, but I'm not sure. For the rest, I don't think many sport skydivers still want to use the old stuff for their regular jumping. But for those special jumps with paracommanders etc, the round reserve we use for intentional cutaways and gear for water jumps, I think it's a good rule. ciel bleu, Saskia

My RESERVE was made in 1994. It hasn't collapsed on me so far (4 jumps on it) The age thing isn't that big a deal, is the canopy okay or not is the question. I just read that our national rule of declaring a rig or canopy unairworthy after 25 years has now been replaced by: if the manufacturer hasn't set an age limit, a rigger can now declare it airworthy. My own canopy has about 600-700 jumps and is from 1996, all that means is that it needs a new lineset pretty soon. ciel bleu, Saskia

Beware of Kenny Ruetsch selling a Sabre 107
dragon2 replied to JumpHog's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Is that so bad? You wouldn't mind someone selling a canopy saying it needs a reline would you? ciel bleu, Saskia -
Relax and go jump! ciel bleu, Saskia

I don't need a prize, I just want my DVD! Is it on the way? I'm sending the DVD's out now, however the distribution locally is out of my hands. But yeah, shipping is well under way. ciel bleu, Saskia -

I'm hoping that anyone here has email adresses for the following skydivers: Julie Nichol (Australia) Patrick Passe (France) Claudio Serafini (Italy) Time Mace (South Africa) Rob Colpus (UK) Darel Moran (UK) Breno d’Asis (Brazil) Flemming & Meggie Nøddegaard (Denmark) Vitalijus Janusauskas (Lithuania) And if you figure out what these people have got to do with each other you don't win a prize If you have any of these adresses please email or PM me, thanx! ciel bleu, Saskia -
Yeah.... All 6 of the neptunes I updated last weekend immediately showed empty batteries I need to go buy a bunch of them.... Of course the weather here now is very cold which doesn't help with the batteries at all ciel bleu, Saskia

but neither does a canopy that's been deployed by SL. Yup and neither do CReW canopies. I once deployed my new Lightning 126 at 12k, solo, since I had to prove I could land it I had to do a pre-declared jump/landing on it, and I was damn well going to make sure (there was no wind and a bit of thermal turbulence too) so I flew it around for a bit doing practice flares and stuff. There was an accuracy competition going on at the landing field and when I finally landed (perfectly I might add LOL) a lot of people came over worried, thinking I was a belly flier and had had my reserve deployed out of the door! This canopy is red white and blue! LOL ciel bleu, Saskia -
Yeah. I'm like that. I've never had a car accident so I don't wear a seatbelt. t The problem is, if I cut the corners on my Atom I get a better wingsuit rig. However I get a WORSE freefly rig. I made my choice. ciel bleu, Saskia

"The 95sq ft. size of a Cobalt is compared to a 120 sqft size stiletto." It is? I've heard they "fly big" but this big?? ciel bleu, Saskia

Here's an interesting (more recent i think) russian canopy ciel bleu, Saskia

No the entire bag upside down actually. At least on my Atom there is no way you could pack grommet to pin since the bag is so "flat". I haven't modified mine though since I never had problems. ciel bleu, Saskia

You need a container that has BOC, doesn't have a bungee pilot, a long bridle and no butt bungee (or disconnect it) and has decent pin and riser protection. Most rigs will do. If you want the best (not neccesary but helpful), get a 10 ft bridle and modify the corners of your container so you can pack grommet to bottom. I wouldn't recommend getting the no-legstrap-option though ciel bleu, Saskia

I wouldn't buy a 300D anymore, rather a 350D if you can't afford a 20D (etc). Unless you can buy a 300D real cheap 2nd hand of course The kit lens is crappy however a good fixed lens is pretty expensive ciel bleu, Saskia

Aircraft emergencies - freefall and canopy collisions
dragon2 replied to lintern's topic in Safety and Training
Nothing would happen, your AAD does not arm until 1500 feet. (3000 ft. for a tandem) Sparky I know that that's why I said MAY happen, since if something happens to the plane it may have been higher before you have a chance to get out... But yeah you're right of course. Question: how about an FXC? We have those on our SL rigs. Can't find the manual anywhere, but that AAD does not have an arming height, correct? ciel bleu, Saskia -
My I who's also a TM says that lineovers happen quite a lot on tandem chutes, but they very often clear themselves. I saw this once or twice on tandem videos, the canopy looking like maybe a lineover but as soon as it's fully open, no problem. One of our video guys usually films the tandem opening from ABOVE, making for an interesting video for experienced skydivers Maybe it had something to do with the EZ's though, can't remember seeing a video of a lineover slide off recently, on the Sigma or Icarus chutes, but there were some chops for line-overs though. How come a line-over on a tandem chute is more fixable than a sport canopy? (At least that's what people tell me.) ciel bleu, Saskia

Think about what may happen if you get out on your main at 1000 ft and you have an AAD. I'm definately NOT going out on my main at 1000 ft, AAD or no. If I'm at 2000ft or higher I'll pull my main, otherwise I'll pull my reserve. This is my personal decision altitude, and I know people with really snivelly canopies who'll have say 2500ft or 3000ft as the limit, or people who'll go out at 1500ft on their mains (I might, with a Lightning). Nobody is saying you should pull your reserve at 4k of course. But think about YOUR alti limit and go over it with an instructor. ciel bleu, Saskia -
I can't jump both my TRV-25 and my D70 at the same time doing BirdMan: way too heavy . I got a custom fullface helmet with everything topmounted, but if I have to move my head around too much my neck hurts. I can do FS etc but not BM. Maybe I'm just a wuss, and maybe I'll get the hang of it later, but for now I let Henny jump my D70! No comment on the flying please, we were all way uncurrent and the base guy has like 10 wingsuits jump total. Was still great fun though, and great flying above the unseasonal snow! When we could SEE it that was, which explains why we all landed out, except for our base guy (you did that on purpose right Hans? ) Unfortunately this was our only jump together today, for some reason we couldn't jump from 12k anymore (I wonder why? LOL) and I didn't feel like doing a hopnpop in my wingsuit ciel bleu, Saskia

You will end up wanting to import and/or export video of you/your friends from and to your camera I promise you. I just converted the whole World Team 2004 DVD to NTSC (the other way round but same problems), believe me it is a pain in the #$% and the quality is not getting any better. Be compatible with your friends! ciel bleu, Saskia

I can't even count how many email adresses I've got. What would be the point? Not that I like trolls... On the Dutch KNVvL forum you need a license number... It cuts back on trolling but now prospective students and tandem passengers etc can't post ciel bleu, Saskia

Hah hah. Very stereotypical of you, now you're gonna sue them, right ?! ciel bleu, Saskia

BSR proposal take 5 (or, the details of mine)
dragon2 replied to billvon's topic in Safety and Training
In The Netherlands we require you do some frontriser turns for your B (up high, duh): first a 360 left and a 360 right, then three times 360 left and three times 360 right!!! That's two 1180 turns! On most probably a 170 sqft canopy... Luckily it doesn't say how TIGHT those turns have to be! ciel bleu, Saskia -
some where alongthe lines of 119, 129, 149, 169, 189.... but then again those were thier placarded sizes.... if you measure them with pd's method they would be 8% smaller.... so the safire 149i have is actually closer to 138....... they changed the way they measure them when they released the safire2 Is it possible to order a safire in any size you want, e.g could a safire 134 exist? Yes my Safire 1 was a 135 (so it was ~126 sqft). ciel bleu, Saskia
