3D edition - International Artistic Wingsuit Competition 2010
mccordia replied to mccordia's topic in Wing Suit Flying
ANd we are about to start the second trainingday! Yesterday was a beautifull day, and aside from one or two teams not here yet, everyone got to practice a lot of stuff. With helpfull tips given to eachother everywhere. Real friendly spirit (with a bit of competitive banther) The Belgian team arrived late in the evening, and is also commencing training today. Tomorrow there will be one trainingjumps, and than the big competition begins! I will try and upload the rounds as they come in (if the connection allows, its not really broadband), and scores will also be posted to a webpage as they come in. The weather is absolutely stunning. Clear blue skies, 28 degrees celcius. So we even get to work on a tan. We're about to manifest for load one, working a bit more on the free round. When the competition starts, Ill try and post updates as we go allong! Gotta fly! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
Did you revive a thread from ages ago to make a fanboy comment about some silly TV show JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Article on FlyBy's.. The dificult thing with this subject, is that you only want people with dedicated practice/experience doing this. Making an article on how to do it would, much like putting a video on 'how does one do a first flight course' only result in more and more low-timers trying their hand at this. While I would only want someone with a LOT of experience flying relative to others, clouds, and having experience in distance, judging speed, recovery etc etc trying their hand at this. Im currently in a writing project where inclusion of this subject could come up. But Im not sure its something I would want to burn my hands on, besides telling people> dont do it with low experience...(for now) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Ive got 500+ jumps on a storm 135, and never had anything like that, or even slight off heading opening. One reserveride due to a shit packjob is all I have to offer. Jumped a spectre before this, and recommend both highly for WS flying. With the storm (for me) scoring a bit better in distance/glide and more fun to fly than the spectre.. Jump 400-1100 (+-) - Spectre 170 Jump 1100-1400 - Strom 150 Jump 1400 - now (closing in on 2000) - Storm 135 Love the 7 cells.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Unless you have that actual suit, its a safe bet you dont have that. Though the finer features on what makes that suit different from any other one, are hard to spot in the video. All part of testing and trying... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

For those with a keen eye. The Red Bull Airforce training video also shows a previous prototype with some new unique features. Lots of different features are being tried and tested, one prototype at a time. Improvements are already visiable in many areas, but making sure the client gets a AAA quality product, that really is a significant step forward compared to the current V3, testing will continue.. A little birdy tells me, we may see some footage of various V4x prototypes pop up online soon... July next year is the earliest we expect to have anything ready for actual release...time will tell.. Dornier will probably be favorite (door and exit speed), but damn this is gonna be fun! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

In the situations where you'd need an AAD, the standard setting (78 mph) is more than enough to warent your safety. In case of instability, a wingsuit is more likely to speed up beyond normal freefall speeds (even in severe spins) than slowing down beneath that range. The novice setting (45 mph) is one that could be concidered dangerous if you jump any canopy thats capable of doing such speeds in tight turns/dives, so the standard setting would for sure be recommendable. It seems the mailserver is experiencing some breakdown. Should be back up asap again. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I think a large problem in general (for a lot of brands) is that often customer service issues are sooner posted on dropzone.com and similar forums, than contacting costumer service directly. Sometimes things do slip through, but Robert is king in making sure all costumers are taken care of (should there be anything in terms of sizing or a production issue). Glad to see you a happy flyer... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

"What do YOU want out of a wingsuiting event?"
mccordia replied to PhoenixRising's topic in Wing Suit Flying
I think the actual 'what will we do' is much less important about any wingsuit event, than the group of people and team behind and around the boogie. I know Im coming to Flock & Dock every year, because I enjoy seeing the same group of flyers again, and jump with a certain group of organizers and people that really made that event their own. Justin, Scot, Scotty...etc. etc. Im lucky to also be a part of some events as an organizer, and have grown to really like the fact that certain people link themselves to one or another event, and every year, reform like one big (disfunctional) family. So in reply to 'what do you want out of a wingsuit event' A select group of people seem to have a 'me first/cut-throat' approach to who gets to a boogie first and nabs the organisers slot. Respecting the family that has been building around certain events for year, and playing WITH the community, instead of taking things as a 'us against them' kind of thing......THATS what I hope for.. Justin....(pull altitudes aside)...my hats of to you for being one of the super active organizers who works hard to build the dicipline, and tries to keep things light, fun and enjoyable for everyone. Build the family...and the cool stuff will follow...regardless if its verticals..docking...distance runs or something else......the family we build at each event is the most important thing...and thats what I hope to see grow more and more... To the world wide happy (disfunctional! OH YES!) family... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
You should start selling those mirrors... I know a lot of GoPro (still dont get the 'pro' part) users who frequently delay exits, mess up the spot, and annoy fellow jumpers trying to focus on an exit with that question.. With regards to the mounting options. The cleanest option would be having 2 slots/slits in the helmet (be it on top/side), with the camera 'clicking' in (maybe with a simple metal ball/spring locking it, instead of the screw/locking pin). Eliminating the whole 'spacer' mounting options (creating quite a bit of height/distance from the helmet) How-ever, making a simple platform or connector (be it round or square) that can simply be clicked onto the helmet as a seperate unit, on which you attach any type of small camera (gopro/contour etc), would allow for simply removing the whole camera and mount. And if GoPro or any other brand switched mounts, also not invalidate the whole helmet design. With the parts sticking out, having some form of cutaway on the visor (if the camera attaches to that part) would be advisable (even manditory in some smarter countries) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

And two new teams added... The Italian "Easy Flying" and (so far nameless) UK team... Only 1,5 more weeks to go! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
I think choosing the right wingsuit for your bodysize and intented flying (formation, long solo, distance etc) is a bigger thing, than the actual body size itself. Seeing quite a few people fly big 'solo suits' behind formations, strugling to catch up. 'Dress for succes' is key... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

www.flylikebrick.com has some (free) video tutorials on things to play with (Barrelrolls etc). In general, finding a flying partner to get used to relative flight (and working on spot on 2 way skills before you head on to bigger formations) is definately recommended. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Several wingsuits have a semi-rigid leading edge.. For suits such as a GTI, a larger legwing will probably ad more drive than a foam leading edge... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

And probably never will either...specialised gear (BASE) is needed, and the general skydiving rules dont really allow for that. Though some people do seem to make deliberate low-pulls (on gear not designed for that) a habbit. A lot of base footage you see this days does have some chopper/plane/paraglider jumps in it here or there, for acces to unique spots/lines that dont have a normal exitpoint. Money is really the only limitation (choppers tend to be costly). JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Sweet...does that mean I also should start doing these bellow advised/legal pull altitude though? Not sure I like that idea... Being cool isnt always cool (or safe) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Wide-angles typicaly make things look further away than they are...not closer... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Watching the video again, I hadnt even registered that flyby the first time. But wow...that looked LOW (horizon way up in the view). What altitude was that at? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
