Altimeter: maybe, but that depends on the actual gameplay we decide on. 'real' basejumping only has the visual indications, and is not really an altimeter based sport (as in, needing to read it during flight. But for sure an option. All flying seen is according to 'real' glide, recovery arcs and rough estemates of flying performance. The 'uphill' flying is mostly caused by lack of detail in the terrain. But its physics at work (simulated) and not jet powered flying (though again, for Martijn, easily possible as an option should you want to) Colliding: you bump and tumble, and things can go to shit depending on altitude and skills ;) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

3D edition - International Artistic Wingsuit Competition 2010
mccordia replied to mccordia's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Eyey... So far we have gotten the awesome amount of 3 trainingjumps in, but heading to France (Soulac) now, and hoping to make a few more with Alex there. For teams who (like us) have difficulty sceduling trainingdays, the dropzone will already be open on the days before the competition. So wednesday, thursday and friday (8, 9, 10 September) everyone can already join in, and do some competition flying. The judges will also be at hand already, to give you scores on your trainingjumps, and all teams there (us included) are all more than willing to assist eachother with tips and tricks on how to perform certain figures. After the competition, we will (of course) do some serious flocking with all the participants there, and fly some of the most amazing formations possible (judging the amount of flying tallent, skill and experience present at the DZ). People still looking for a team or cameraflyer, just shoot us a note, and we'll hook you up! Only 2 more months! Counting down! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
Dude...a footmount, with camera on your RIGHT foot? You serious? Make sure you're not even in the slightest hint of a track/forward motion, or you'll have a horse-shoe mall on your hands in no-time. Even on the left-hand side, the pilotchute comes scary close to the foot at times during wingsuit jumps (it dances around the burble a lot). NEVER use any camera-mount or smoke bracket on the same side you pitch your pilotchute. The opposing side ONLY, and even there, use extreme care in how you pitch, and what your body position is. Thats not an official option, but specific request from hans (gadget) for docking fun and flocking, where you'd normaly not use the grippers anyway (for those with a more 'positive wingload' gifted build) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Eli, it wouldnt be adding a cell. It would be lengthening the current wing and booties. Only in case your suit didnt fit. No other reason related to performance. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

We jump all year round. From sweaty palms to frozen fingers. If weather permits, we are a'flying! And that includes winter JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

A minor addition on getting sponsors: You get sponsored based on either experience, skill, achievements, personality, media, records and/or exposure. There isnt a single sponsor who pays new jumpers to 'become cool, and do cool stuff'. Like anything in life, it takes hard work to get there... I see many unexperienced jumpers hoping RB, GoFast or a gear manufacturer will step up and pay their jumps, travel, drinks and lifestyle...but packing, a dayjob and jumping like mad from that hard-earned cash is where it all starts...nothing in life is free JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Eli, with your suit being stock, and not custom tailored, in case of a tight fit, there was talk about a minor leg/booty extention. But seeing the suit fits fine, and knowing your weight (feather-like) more fabric wont do much for you besides tipping the suit off balance (especialy for backflying), and although adding more drive on the leg, it would also add more fabric=drag. You're a skinny dude! I think eating more, or bringing more lead to 'up' your wingload is where you can improve fwd drive the most. Next to just flying a lot... You have a great suit, perfect for your bodysize. Nothing that needs upgrades or tinkering if you ask me Maybe see you saterday! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Depending on the promotion/venue/product/film/project/stunt a jumper can be anything from part time to single jump to full career/dayjob connected to said company or sponsor. For one its the life of an athlete, for another its parties, demos en funjumps. In almost all cases its acomplished sportsman, who earned their place in the sport through their skills, acomplishments and/or exposure. You do see the people depending on income from their sponsor sometimes do stunts or promotional activities they wouldnt always choose if their salary/payment didnt depend on it. Its living the dream to those outside, but hard work (getting there, and staying there) for those select few.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Transformers 3 wingsuit stunt jump in Chicago
mccordia replied to skybox33's topic in Wing Suit Flying
We posted a series of crowd videos on http://www.Wingsuitnews.com on this stunt. Via Ill Vision, we were told its the RedBull airforce flyers (sans logos this time). Wingsuits in a cool stunt, shot and edited by/for Michael Bay...safe to say this could be incredible! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -

The Phantom2z was introduced a year and a half ago, with some subtle updates on the Phantom2 (not deemed big enough to warent a Phantom3 name). The changes are roughly these: slightly longer legwing (a difference of only a few cm). The zipper rigging (which was the reason for the added 'z'). Since midway 2009, the full PF range features this 'over the shoulder' system. Recently all PF suits received an update in the zippers as well (stronger/thicker ones). Following Jii-Wings, Sfly and Tony with regards to ease of use. Reworked cutaway system. Still offering the safety/backup feature, re-routed nicely to work as a seperate system from the rigging/attachment setup. Changed inlet design, adopting the armpit 'ram air' intake, thats become standard on many suits since its introduction on the V3. Freeing up the arms, with a smooth/clean leading edge, and inflating wings regardles of flight angle (flat, headlow or headdown) The arm/inlet position and zippers make it quite easy to spot the difference. Mylar inserts in the legwing are optional. We are looking at offering an ankle gripper as a future option on the P2z, Ghost and Shadow if there is an interest there...(speak up) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Its a shame people link performance to 'a good first wingsuit jump'. Though a nice bonus, its not the aim, and Id much rather see someone with a good allround experience (and a bit more than the bare minimum). The best way to prepare for wingsuit flying, is NOT doing anything, and learning to skydive well with other people in the same airspace. It teaches you more about safety, levels, relative flying, closing speeds, exits and tracking performance (after each jump, seperating) than the dozens of wasted solo jumps some recommend. Learn to fly your body, and learn to fly it well. Dont do that by laying there in a single body position for a full jump, and for sure, dont teach yourself bad habbits that will hinder your flying more than it will help. Fly.. We are still in the process of updating and adding parts here and there. The Shadow order form should be online next week or so (Robert is currently in Norway, working hard on scoring high in the World Base Race) And the color designer (flash) is still missing a few pictures here and there. Over the coming month, more and more additions will be visable on the website. If you have suggestions, questions or ideas. Shoot Macca, DSE or myself a line! Cheers! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

If you learn FS or FF, those should come included at the end of EVERY jump. Aside from being good at 'holding a static body position' most flyers Ive seen who did the whole 'focus on trackingdives' pre-route didnt impress me a whole lot in general awareness and/or skill. The first few jumps in a wingsuit are not about performance. They are about safety. Once flyers get that part, the performance in a wingsuit, is best learnt, flying a wingsuit... And from that point on, in both formation flying and solo performance flight its usually the jumpers with a more all-round background that shine. Learn to skydive...dont focus on one minor aspect, thats not as important to learning to fly a wingsuit, as most new flyers want to make you believe.. Fly the body! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Ive seen new jumpers going at it quite hardcore, and doing a load of jumps every weekend. Next to some holiday weeks, tunnel time etc and passing 200 jumps in less than a year, while ALSO (most important) boasting quite a bit of skill in terms of awareness and flying. Money is the limitation for most. If that isnt the limitation, doing a month of fulltime jumping on a big DZ could get you past the required bare minimum (read: more is NOT a problem, and for sure, recommendable). Every bit of experience gained in CRW, FF or FS/RW will benefit your WS flying later-on. So make sure you learn as much as you can, to get a head start in wingsuit flying. At the point where the spin is that fast, passing out and loosing altitude is two things that are happening fast. Struggling untill you run out of altitude, and than having to fight to pull the same handles you didnt want to to pull higher (or have an AAD fire while spinning on your back) isnt really the better option.. Thats so 2009... 'Jump little to nothing, see a lot of YouTube, post even more' is the new slogan! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

For BASE, large surface suits dont come with a special pilotchute pouch without a reason. For skydiving, no suit or wingsize really warent(s) the use (and additional dangers) of a BASEpouch. Unless you are rushing the pull, BOC isnt any issue at all.. The BASEpouch in skydive enviroment discussion is already available in other threads for those wanting to discuss that.. I think the biggest issue with the V3, Stealth2 or any other compare-able 'large surface' wingsuit from other manufacturers, is that you need a relaxed and normal pull. Rushing, and not making the proper move around the wing (or even passing the BOC, and sliding back the hand to locate/find it) will result in fabric between hand and hackey/pilotchute. Its just a matter of practice, and in large part the reason we recommend at least 150 wingsuit jumps before flying one.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
